COMMUNITY Sellout at HabCenter’s Fun Fundraiser

By Marci Shatzaman That blur in the photo is Jerry Fedele, retired Boca Raton Regional Hospital president, who not only won the HabCenter’s second Chopstick Challenge but was the top fundraiser, too.

Fedele was in a long list of VIPs, from hospital trustee and Boca philanthropist Christine Lynn, to FAU president Adam and Jillian Hasner. They joined hundreds of HabCenter supporters at the Boca Chamber Festival Days event in the Wyndham Hotel Boca Raton’s event ballroom.

Lynn was the major sponsor, and the Hasners were among sponsors that included Moraca Builders’ Thomas Moraca, HabCenter board chair, and contest “jockey” Jan Savarick, disguised in a black wig.

Chamber v.p. Sarah Pearson is on the HabCenter board and spoke about the remaining 49th year of Festival Days through August. There was no shushing this social crowd, as HabCenter CEO Sherry Henry found before there was quiet to watch the video of the HabCenter’s mission since 1978 to continue to serve adults with developmental and intellectual abilities with the job and social skills needed “to lead

useful and productive lives, maximize their potential and live with fulfillment.”

Henry also did shoutouts to FAU’s Asian student group and another contest “jockey,” Red Pine Restaurant’s Chef Chi, who also provided the buffet. He was paired with Palm Beach State College provost and dean Dr. Van Williams for the challenge to take wontons from one bowl to another just using chopsticks. The other “jockeys” were Nicole Grimes and Steve Clarfield. Hospital v.p. Brian Altschuler was the judge, and Alex Price was the emcee, both for the second year. Price did a running commentary interrupted only by cheers from each jockey’s supporters.

In the thank you goodie bag were the center’s honey, which they sell, and tangerines with this message: “The words for tangerine in Cantonese and Mandarin sound very close to the words for luck and success.” The sellout with enthusiasm wasn’t lost on HabCenter CEO Henry, who said afterward she was “grateful and overwhelmed.” “That helped amplify their voices and shine a light on the humanity they bring to the world.”

Let’s Talk Boca Session on Safety Highlights Open Communication and the City’s Top Rescue Teams

New Videos Introed at Addison Festival Day

Wednesday evening, community members had the opportunity to pull up a chair and join their City Manager Mark Sohaney, Police Chief Jarad Phelps, Fire Rescue Services Chief John Treanor and Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Jim Zervis at the Spanish River Library for the second session of “Let’s Talk Boca” focusing on the city’s public safety efforts. The previous session was in April, and many attendees returned for Wednesday’s panel, which promised transparent, open conversations for those that know the city best — its residents.

An informal format that excludes podiums, “Lets Talk Boca” has city officials seated facing residents to answer questions, give updates and is followed by a Q&A session, where microphones are brought to attendees at their seats to ask questions.

The program and its setting also provided an opportunity to ask questions directly and learn more about how city departments operate, all within two hours.

For the August session, the theme and central topic was public safety, with a conversation about how the city protects residents and prepares for emergencies.

Phelps and Treanor opened the session by introducing themselves and offering residents background on the experience they bring to their positions, as well as their connection to Boca Raton’s residents.

Phelps discussed his more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, including time with the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia and service as police chief in Jacksonville, North Carolina.

He said his early priorities as police chief include listening, learning the department from the bottom up, understanding its culture and processes, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

Treanor has nearly 32 years with Boca Raton Fire Rescue. He joined the department in 1995 and became fire chief in 2021. His approach is focused on preparation.

tend beyond traditional firefighting and emergency medical services.

Among those capabilites is the department’s Tpe 1 HAZMAT team, the highest state classification for hazardous-materials response, as well as a Technical Rescue Team capable of high-angle rope operations, building shoring, and heavy vehicle extrication.

The department also has advanced medical capabilities. Every firefighter is a paramedic, and fire trucks carry advanced life-support equipment. The department has implemented a whole-blood program that allows specifically trained crews to administer blood in the field to critically injured paitients before hospital arrival.

“We honestly believe that without the whole blood in this particular case, the paitent wouldn’t survive,” Treanor said, describing an already proven impact of the program.

Crews are also using field ultrasound to assess cardiac activity and blood flow, providing additional information to guide treatment decisions during emergencies.

The city operates eight fire stations, with seven currently equipped with rescue transport units. Adding a rescue transport unit at Station 8 is intended to improve emergency medical coverage in the southeast portion of the city and reduce the need to pull rescue resources from other areas.

Police Services has its own specialized resources, including SWAT, K9, dive, bomb, traffic, detective, and other special operations units. Phelps also discussed the departments ability to surge from a small number of officers to dozens of personnel during major incidents.

After the discussion was opened to the audience, the conversation moved beyond emergency response to traffic safety, e-bikes., homelessness, organizational changes, the proposed Police Services Complex, and long-term financial planning.

The second session of the city’s “Let’s Talk Boca” series further demonstrated their effort to create an ongoing conversation between city officials and the community.

Sohaney said the purpose was not simply for officials to explain what the city is doing.

“Public safety is really the conversation tonight,” Sohaney said, “but most importantly it’s really to hear from you.”

Boca Raton plans to continue “Let’s Talk Boca” as part of its effort to strengthen communication between residents, businesses, and city leadership.

Another aspect of this series is that the full “Let’s Talk Boca” conversation series is live streamed and after the event lives online for viewing through the city’s website and YouTube channel.

New videos and tickets for tours of the 1925 buildings greeted guests at The Addison Unveiled Boca Chamber Festival Day at the iconic Mizner historic landmark, now a special events venue.

“History isn’t only looking back, it helps us see how we got here,” said Olivia Hollaus, executive director of the Boca Raton Historical Society & The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum.

The non-profit partnered with The Addison for the 49th set of Festival Days through August.

The Addison’s vice president Zoe Lanham is on the historical society’s board of trustees and shared the mic with Hollaus, encouraging memberships: https://bocahistory.org/ “You’re the first to see our newest project, short films on Boca Raton history,” Hollaus told guests at the soldout event, showing a video on screens in the reception area.

Historical society curator for 24 years and the city’s official historian Sue Gillis stars in the videos and led the tours. Guests thanked her afterward for her historical insights, she said.

Former Palm Beach County school board president Frank Barbieri remembered having a law office there from 1986 to ‘91. Especially relevant because the Mizner chandelier swung at night, he said, implying the site might have been haunted by the high society architect and developer.

Second-generation Boca Ratonian Hinda Bramnick said she didn’t know Addison Mizner was only in Boca for two years. “And I learned he was in competition with Henry Flagler,” Florida’s railroad developer. “It was really an opportunity to learn more about Boca, and whoever owned the buildings adapted them to remain relevant to the times.”

Boynton Beach City Commission Holds Meeting on August 25th

The City Commission of Boynton Beach held a meeting on August 25th.

It was a shorter meeting because there was a motion to move some items of discussion to a September 16th meeting. There will also be a budgetary meeting on September 8th.

ment that the department has received an ISO 1 rating, a significant milestone for the department and the community that the department now meets stringent fire rescue requirements.

The commission also discussed various community support fund requests that were approved, including $500 for Boynton Beach High School Cheerleaders and $1500 for East Boynton Beach Little League, and $500 for Men of Vision and Purpose.

The meeting also covered the approval of a $750,000 grant for water and sewer line replacements in the Sea Meadows community.

Boca Raton City To Consider Development, Housing, Water Measures August 25

By Caris Weinberg Boca Raton’s city meetings resume Monday and Tuesday, taking on measures affecting development, affordable housing, pedestrian and bicycle safety, drinking-water PFAS removal, nuisance-animal regulations, the city budget, building recertification requirements, and procurement rules.

These are highlights of the meetings.

City meetings are open to the public at the 6500 Building and can also be viewed online through the city’s agenda page. This week’s meetings will take place on Monday and Tuesday. Listening Is Also Leadership

Do Your Possessions Possess You?

We live in a generation that has learned to respond quickly. At the same time, it has forgotten how to listen deeply. In meetings, conversations, and even relationships, we often listen only long enough to prepare our next response. But the Bible shows us a different way. It teaches that true influence does not begin when we speak. It begins when we make someone feel seen, understood, and valued.

In the New Testament, James 1:19 admonishes that, “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Jesus practiced this principle of active listening constantly. Perhaps one of the most powerful marks of His leadership was the way He listened to people. When we look at the life of Christ, we realize that He not only taught these principles – He lived them. Here are some examples: Listening Without Interrupting. We read in Luke 24 that on the road to Emmaus, the disciples were walking, feeling frustrated and disappointed after the crucifixion. The risen Jesus approached them and asked: “What are you discussing together as you walk along?”He already knew exactly what had happened, but patiently allowed them to pour out their hearts before responding. How often do we do the opposite? We interrupt, jump to conclusions, or try to solve everything too quickly.

Showing Genuine Interest. When Jesus met the Samaritan woman at the well, recounted in John 4, He did not begin the conversation with condemnation or ready-made speeches. He started by creating connection.In a culture in which that woman was ignored and rejected, Jesus made her feel important. He saw her spiritual thirst even before confronting her wounds. People can tell when we are listening merely out of politeness – but they can also tell when there is genuine love in our attention.

Asking Questions Before Assuming Answers. A blind man, Bartimaeus, cried out by the roadside, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:46–52). Jesus stopped and asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus already knew the answer, yet He still chose to ask. Listening is alAug 27 -Sep 3 , 2026

so about giving dignity to others. Many times, we assume people’s needs without truly understanding their pain. Listening Beyond Words. Jesus often perceived what no one else could hear. He saw fear hidden in Peter, shame in the Samaritan woman, and frustration in the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Active listening is not just about hearing words. It is about perceiving emotions, silences, expressions, and invisible needs.

At work, at home, and in relationships, people rarely reveal everything explicitly.

Mature leadership learns to listen even to what is left unsaid.

Responding With Grace and Truth.

Jesus never listened merely to collect information. His listening always produced care, direction, and transformation. After listening, He encouraged, confronted when necessary, healed, taught, and restored. Perhaps the problem today is not only a lack of communication. Perhaps it is the lack of presence. We are surrounded by people wanting to be noticed, longing for someone who will truly listen to them. One of the greatest ways to represent Christ in our lives is simply this: stop, look, listen, and love people through the unconditional gift of our attention.

Listening requires humility. It requires patience. It requires genuine interest. And that looks a lot like Christ.

You have to maintain the right perspective about what you own, or you’ll be possessed by your possessions. You’ve got to realize that none of it is going to last.

Jesus says in Luke 12:15, “Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be” (GNT).

Never judge your self-worth by your net worth. Never think your value is related to your valuables. Realize that the greatest things in life aren’t things. You didn’t bring anything into the world, and you won’t take anything out of it. Life is not about acquisition or achievement; it’s about relationships and learning how to love God and other people.

The best way to remember that your life is not about things is to build it on eternal priorities. Focus on what will last forever. Every possession is temporary, so don’t build your life on acquiring possessions. Only two things are going to last forever: the Word of God and people.

You’ve got a choice to make. The world is telling you that you need to get more to be happier, more successful, more important, more valuable, and more secure. So you’ve got to decide: Are you going to listen to Madison Avenue or the Master? Are you going to listen to culture or Christ? Are you going to listen to the world or the Word? One will leave you dissatisfied the rest of your life; one will make you

truly happy.

Before you can move toward financial freedom, you have to ask yourself, “What is the primary purpose of my life? Is it just to get more? What do I think about, talk about, and give my attention to? What am I living my life for?”

Look around, and you’ll see many people who have a lot to live on. You’ll see celebrities on television and successful businesspeople in your own community. These people’s bank accounts are overflowing. They have plenty to live on, but some of them may have very little to live for.

What about you? You may have a lot to live on, but do you have anything to live for? Do you have a relationship with God? The myth of the world is that you can have it all. The truth is that you can’t have it all. And, more importantly, you don’t need it all to be happy. You’re as happy as you choose to be.

The secret to contentment is finding your security and your satisfaction not in what you have but in whose you are. You find it in Christ.

The Living Bible paraphrase says, “But as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing you and knowing all is well between us. And when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied, for I will see you face-to-face” (Psalm 17:15).

By Douglas G Logan I am 10 days into my 50 day training period to do my “Patriotic Pilgrimage”. I wear my full ruck load every day; have increased my mileage to 6.5 miles.

My body is responding well. Other than some isolated aches and cramps, I am feeling good and stronger each day.

I am awaiting the arrival of my TriBeCa family for a week-plus “Camp Grandma”. The pool is heated, special foods in stock. This camp has only one rule: “no rules”. A punctuation to summer.

The political landscape has taken an interesting turn. Not as simple as the pundits are framing it. Republicans are on their back foot, but probably not as vulnerable as they look. Democrats are choosing leaders with progressive tendencies, but much of that is situational and circumstantial. Iran is in permanent limbo. The economy is flaccid.

Trump seems more obsessed with trivia and stylistic symbols than he is about problems.

I was struck by a comment made

by NYT columnist, Brett Stephens, this morning.

“Ultimately, our leadership is a reflection of collective national self: of a culture that long ago abandoned the virtue of restraint; of technologies that, as they become more sophisticated, serve to make us more ignorant; of a society that mistakes bigness for beauty; of an approach to life in

which happiness has become synonymous with the word more; of a politics that is meant to be indistinguishable from entertainment. Sometimes I think that the Trump presidency is like one of those three-sided mirrors that just confronts you with the blunt, unpleasant truth of what you really look like.”

For the last decade we may have just received “just desserts”. We may be focusing on the wrong symptoms, afraid to look at, and take action, on our real maladies. The most hopeful sign that we may get out of this morass came with the School Board election in Sarasota County this week.

There, the decades-old, far-right Board, composed of “tradwife” reactionaries, was supplanted by progressive leadership. Mostly by wise, savvy former teachers. But the enthusiasm engine was supplied by an amazing organization of high school students.

Students who wanted a return to diversity, equity and inclusion in education. Students who were sympathetic to LGBTQ+ issues. Students who refused to be told what books to read.

Students who were appalled by ICE and refused to cooperate with their excesses. Man1y of these students have been doing grass-roots politicking for several years. And, they won.

A breath of fresh air as “the days dwindle down”.

On Monday, Senator Rick Scott took to Twitter to take yet another subtle shot at Governor Ron DeSantis. Scott tweeted about how Florida’s tourism numbers were down again for the second successive quarter and how we needed Byron Donalds to fix it. It is the latest in a long-running series of swipes former Governor Scott has taken at the current Governor Ron DeSantis. In the past many of Senator Scott’s swipes have landed but this one doesn’t, because the situation fueling our downturn in tourism is out of the hands of the current Governor.

President Donald Trump’s desire to humiliate Canada either rhetorically or through actual economic pain as noted by many objective analysts is boomeranging against Florida. The President is a close ally of Rick Scott and despite sharing the same political party as Governor DeSantis, has a very different world view and economic outlook than our current Governor.

Thanks to the political friction, economic trade posturing, and tense bilateral rhetoric strain the U.S.-Canada relationship, Florida is suffering the fallout. Canadian visitation—historically the bedrock of the state’s international tourism market and critical to our retail sector—has plummeted by nearly 14%

in the first half of this year.

For a state accustomed to welcoming millions of snowbirds who trade icy driveway shoveling for Gulf Coast sunsets, a double-digit drop in Canadian travelers is less of a mild breeze and more of a fiscal storm warning.

Tourism, at its core, is driven by sentiment- as I have found in my recent visits to Canada, Florida is seen as a no-go zone for just enough Canadians it’s having an impact.

Canadian travelers face a growing cultural reluctance to spend their dollars in a climate that suddenly feels less neighborly. Rather than booking twomonth winter rentals in Dania Beach or buying multi-day passes at Orlando theme parks, Canadians are either staying home or taking their travel budgets to alternative warm-weather destinations in Mexico, the Caribbean, or Europe. In fact the number of new services initiated the last two years by Canadian air carriers to Mexico and the Caribbean is mind-blowing while we’ve seen a scale back of many flights to Florida.

This missing demographic hits Florida’s hospitality sector where it hurts most. Unlike domestic tourists who pop in for a quick three-day weekend, Canadian visitors are high-value travelers—staying weeks or months at a time, stocking local grocery aisles, frequenting neighborhood diners, and anchoring the winter rental market.

Visit Florida can roll out all the sunny promotional ads it wants, but marketing can only do so much when border friction and diplomatic tension undermine goodwill. Until leaders patch up the northern rift and cool off the bilateral rhetoric, Florida’s tourism industry will continue to feel the freeze and that is unfortunately out of our hands for the most part – thanks to President Trump.

He Left Behind a Medical School

The evening was devoted to Boca’s longtime financial support and mentorship for FAU’s incoming class of medical students. But the 16th White Coats-4-Care turned into a tribute to the medical school’s late founder and inspiration Dr. Ira Gelb and his wife

June’s 100th birthday.

“Each of us is making a difference in the lives of these students,” event chair Maurice Plough told 250 supporters in The Club at Boca Pointe. “We’re also here to celebrate the life of a remarkable man and honoring a special lady.”

The June and Ira J. Gelb, MD Endowed Scholarship Fund gives Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine students the financial freedom to focus on their education, June Gelb described in a video. She was there in person at a table with an FAU birthday cake at her place and an endless supply of well-wishers.

“Dr. Gelb would do everything to support my journey to medical school.

He never wavered,” said Dr. Emily Kelly, a 2017 class alumna, now a urolo-

gist in Melbourne, Fla. She was among the first to be awarded a Gelb scholarship. “We were creating something special.” As the 2028 scholarship recipient, Christopher Lopez described his family’s sacrifices for the first-generation of college students. FAU president Adam Hasner remembered approving the initial funding for the medical school as a former public official. The medical school has graduated 700 students since it opened in 2011, he said. Pranith Reddy and 2028 class president Jacob Kalathoor were among them, all wearing white coats and focused on what comes next, choosing a specialty and applying for a residency, in his case cardiac surgery.

Also speaking were Dr. Lewis S. Nelson, who became medical school dean last year, and vice dean Dr. Jennifer Ca-

ceres. VIPs included Dick Schmidt, representing his late father as the medical school namesake, and Lincoln Mendez, CEO of Boca Raton Regional Hospital. The host committee was filled with recognizable names, including White Coats-4-Care creators Bonnie and Jon Kaye, listed as co-chairs emeriti on the program. Other familiar faces included Anthony Barbar, State Sen. Lori Berman, Donna and Dr. Joseph Biase, Dr. G. Richard Cohen, YMCA CEO Jason Haginsick, Bonnie Halperin, Arlene Herson, hospital foundation president Mark Larkin, hospital trustee chair Christine E. Peter Petracco, Former Boca Raton Police Chief, Dies at 85

Peter A. Petracco, the former Boca Raton police chief whose long law-enforcement career ended under the shadow of a scandal involving the manipulation of crime statistics, died Tuesday in Stuart. He was 85.

His death closes the life of a man whose story cannot be contained in a single chapter – a public career defined by decades of service and ultimately shadowed by the scandal that forced him from office.

For 46 years, Petracco was married to Kathleen Petracco, who remembered him as “the love of my life” and as a thoughtful, intelligent and humorous man who was her confidant, lover and best friend.

“Although his passing feels too soon,” Kathleen Petracco, herself a former officer with the agency, wrote in an

announcement to family and friends. “I find comfort knowing he is at peace and that his memory will continue to live on in our family.”

The private memories stand alongside a more complicated public record.

Petracco rose through the ranks to lead the Boca Raton Police Department at a time when municipal police chiefs were expected to be both commanders and civic figures. His responsibilities extended beyond policing to crime prevention, regional cooperation and maintaining public confidence in the department.

In 1995, Petracco was among area police chiefs involved in a juvenile diversion program and a community drug-awareness effort. Such initiatives reflected the broader responsibilities of police chiefs in a rapidly growing South Florida community, where departments were increasingly expected to address crime through prevention as well as enforcement.

But the final chapter of Petracco’s 34-year career was dominated by an investigation into Boca Raton’s crime statistics.

In 1998, Boca Raton police came under scrutiny after I, then a reporter with the Sun-Sentinel, investigated and found that crimes had been improperly downgraded, affecting the city’s official crime statistics. Certain offenses, including burglaries and thefts, were re-

classified in ways that kept them from appearing in statewide crime reports in the same manner. The practice made Boca Raton’s reported felony crime rate appear 11 percent lower in one year than it had the year before.

The issue went beyond a dispute over bookkeeping. Crime statistics help residents assess their communities, influence perceptions of public safety and provide government officials with a measure of police performance.

City Manager Donna Dreska forced Petracco, who was in his 15th year as chief, out after he denied knowing about the improper classifications. Evidence indicated that he had known for about a year that a senior officer was changing classifications improperly.

That distinction remains important.

Petracco was not publicly established as the person who personally altered the reports. Neither Petracco nor Capt. James Edward Duke, the officer identified in connection with the downgrading, was prosecuted by the Palm Beach County State Attorney’s Office because prosecutors concluded they had not broken the law.

But criminal liability was not the only issue confronting the chief. The controversy raised questions about Petracco’s knowledge, judgment and responsibility for the integrity of the department

he led.

The forced departure became the defining controversy of his public career.

Colleagues remembered Petracco as a demanding, no-nonsense chief who reflected the era in which he served. Some described him as “gruff,” while others recalled a more personal side.

“I had no problem with him,” retired Capt. Vinny Nava said. “He hired me …

I got along with him.”

For all the weight of the scandal, it does not erase the rest of Petracco’s career. He spent decades in a difficult leadership position, worked with other law-enforcement agencies and participated in programs aimed at preventing crime and diverting young people from the criminal-justice system.

Nor does an obituary require the public record to be rewritten simply because the subject has died.

For Kathleen Petracco, however, the measure of her husband’s life was not his crime statistics, press conferences or departure from the police department. It was the 46 years they spent together and the life they built beyond the headlines.

Survivors include his widow, a son, Peter Jr.; and a daughter, Carly.

CHARITY Faulk Center For Counseling Holds Networking Mixer for Boca Chamber Festival Days

Mental Health is such an important topic these days and the Faulk Center for Counseling in Boca Raton is a non-profit in our community that has been addressing mental health issues since 1973.

In conjunction with Boca Chamber Festival Days and along with sponsors Northern Trust Bank and Allegiance Home Health, the non-profit held a mixer and networking event to bring out the community to speak about what they do and how mental health is a concern for everyone.

I got to speak with Jonathan Price, the CEO of the Faulk Center, Dr. Holly Katz, Clinical and Training Director of the Faulk Center, and Dr. Christina Elkind, the Deputy Clinical and Training Director of the Faulk Center. They all stressed the importance of the services that the center provides in the community.

The center provides counseling, group counseling, support groups and psychological testing. They offer services to all ages and groups, from young children to senior citizens. They are dedicated to promoting emotional well-being through a range of free and low-cost mental health programs.

They have a unique model of care that integrates doctoral interns, graduate students, and volunteer mental health professionals. They are all supervised by

licensed clinicians.

Another unique factor is the lowcost and accessible services they provide.

While private practices may charge between $200 and $500 per hour for counseling services, their base fees are set at approximately one-third that amount.

The center gave a presentation stressing the importance of mental health services in our community and the need for help from the community. Jonathan Price, the CEO, spoke of the need for volunteers and how anyone can help the cause. We all have a shared commitment to mental health services.

The counseling groups at the center include individual counseling, couples counseling, and family counseling.

The support groups range from helping individuals cope with challenges such as divorce, dealing with a loss, or managing the complexities of growing older. You may also participate in groups in person or online. Psychological testing at the center includes assessments of children and groups for such issues as behavioral problems, depression, and anxiety.

Foreigner Experience at Boca Black Box Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Boca Black Box Center for the Arts, Feels Like the First Time presents a tribute to Foreigner, featuring the band’s signature vocals, driving guitars, and arena-rock sound.

The performance recreates the energy of Foreigner’s classic hits with live musicianship and a dynamic stage presence.

The show is designed for longtime fans and those discovering the band’s music for the first time.

Zumba at the Beach at South Beach Park Pavilion Join Zumba at the Beach on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with instructor Nicole Gasparri. The session combines upbeat music and energetic dance moves with the calming sound of ocean waves for a fun and invigorating workout. The event is open to all skill levels and offers a scenic way to stay active.

Animal Keeper for A Day at Daggerwing Nature Center Children ages eight and up can work

alongside animal care staff and volunteers to feed animals, clean exhibits, and provide enrichment at the Daggerwing Nature Center. Participants will learn about the daily responsibilities involved in caring for the center’s animal ambassadors. The program takes place at 10 a.m.; reservations are required.

Wildflower in Bloom Series at Wildflower Park Saturday Morning Pilates Free, beginner-friendly Pilates classes are held Saturdays at 9 a.m. at Wildflower Park through August 29. The sessions take place along the scenic Intracoastal Waterway. Participants are asked to bring their own mat and water bottle.

Sunday Morning Yoga Free drop-in yoga sessions continue on Sundays at Wildflower Park through August 30. The drop-in classes are from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings and do not require registration. Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mat and water bottle.

Boca Farmers Market The Boca Farmers Market is held every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus, featuring more than 90 vendors from across South Florida. Shoppers can find local produce, pasture-raised meats, baked goods, organic coffee, specialty foods, skincare products, and other offerings from local farms and small businesses.

Boca History Museum Ends Summer with Music, Family Fun & New Exhibit

The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum invites the community to close out the summer with a full slate of events this August and September, from a free family day celebrating Florida’s pioneer history to two elegant evenings of live music and the opening of a new exhibit exploring Boca Raton’s coastal past.
