COMMUNITY Brightline Upgrades Prompt Rolling Railroad Crossing Closures in Boca

By Kartik Krishnaiyer If your daily commute involves crossing the tracks in Boca Raton, you will want to give yourself some extra time over the next week.

The City of Boca Raton has announced a series of temporary railroad crossing closures starting TODAY July 14 and running through July 22. The closures are part of a federally funded safety initiative spearheaded by Brightline in partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

The Upgrades: What is Being Done?

The construction crew aims to beef up safety measures at intersections throughout the city. Funded by a Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) RAISE Grant, the quick-moving project will include the installation of: Delineators (those plastic reflective poles that deter track-swapping) Raised pavement markers Fresh striping and high-visibility signs Managing the Traffic Flow To keep traffic from grinding to a complete halt, city officials noted that

New Young Clergy Comes to Boca

Rabbi Bryan Wexler, 39, is the new senior rabbi at B’nai Torah Congregation, just in time for the wave of young families moving to Boca. He started July 3.

Wexler’s relocating with his wife and three young children after nine years as associate rabbi at Temple Beth Sholom in Cherry Hill, N.J. It was snowing there and “I was looking at the ocean,” when he interviewed during their national search, he said from another rabbi’s office. His was filled with boxes he hadn’t unpacked yet.

This isn’t the usual ‘new rabbi in town’ situation. “Wexler assumes the

role following the retirement of longtime spiritual leader Rabbi David Steinhardt, who concluded an extraordinary 31-year tenure on June 30,” according to the Conservative temple with 1,300 members. Steinhardt’s retirement was officially announced last year, but the well-known rabbi, especially in Boca interfaith circles, has stayed on for special projects. This year he’ll teach an adult education courseat B’nai Torah starting Oct. 13, one of several courses in three locations and online. www.btcboca.org/ melton/ Instead of ‘big shoes to fill,’ which Wexler freely acknowledged, he thinks of his own senior rabbi role as a “parallel path.” “You have to earn that title every day,” he said. I want to be your rabbi,” he said, mentoring and helping people “feel more connected who don’t feel that yet. We’re living in an age of tremendous choice. Palm Beach County Announces Closing of $13 Million in Affordable Housing Multifamily Development Financing

Palm Beach County, through its Department of Housing and Economic Development (HED), announces the closing of $13,000,000 in financing to support the development of Waterview Apartments at Mangonia Park, an affordable multifamily rental housing community. That Outlasts the Crisis

You Learn to Trust God Through Prayer

By C.C. Simpson It is Monday. The quarterly numbers are bad. A key client just walked.

The team is running on fumes. And somewhere underneath the pressure to perform, to close, to prove yourself, a question surfaces that most marketplace leaders won’t say out loud: “Can I trust God when everything looks like this? Like failure?”

The apostle Paul answers that question in Romans 4. He points to Abraham and writes: “No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised” (Romans 4:2022). Sit with Abraham’s situation for a moment: One hundred years old. Body finished. His wife Sarah’s womb barren for decades. Every biological reality screamed God’s promise of descendants as numerous as the stars was a dead letter. Abraham knew the facts.

He was not delusional. But he refused to let them have the final word.

That is not wishful thinking. That is faith, trust, war against unbelief.

And it is powerful.

Faith, the kind Paul describes here, is not vague spiritual optimism. It is a reasoned, willful conviction that God can and will do what He said, because of who He is. Abraham’s faith was not primarily a feeling. It was a stubborn daily, frontline decision to trust the One who made the promise, even when the promise looked impossible. Abraham grew strong in faith by giving glory to God in the middle of the wait. Not after the breakthrough.

During it. During the “no way this works out” phase.

I watched this play out with a business owner in a men’s group I led in Florida. Third cancer diagnosis. News as bad as it gets. What he did next undid everyone in the room. He worshipped. Unrelenting, unashamed, flat-out worship. Who does that? Hang his hat on the character of God, come what may?

You have your own impossible situations at work. A shrinking margin. A stalled career. The ethical choice that costs you the deal. Perhaps the diagnosis that bleeds into Monday. These Jul 16 -Jul 23 , 2026

are real. They press on you with real weight. Culture says to grind through with self-reliance, or to reach for a platitude that does not touch the actual pain. Both miss the point.

Biblical faith does something different. It looks directly at the contrary evidence and resolves, “Nevertheless, God is able.” It holds the promise without pretending the circumstances are not hard. Keep giving God glory in the tension, and your faith does not stay flat. It grows. That is not a metaphor. It is open to you today.

The Gospel makes this concrete.

The God who promised life from death raised Jesus from the grave. If He did that, He can be trusted with your spreadsheets, your strategy, and your setbacks. The same faith counted to Abraham as righteousness is now offered to you in Christ. Not as a prize for believing perfectly (Abraham didn’t), but as a gift to everyone who trusts the One who never breaks a promise.

So, this Monday, give glory to God before the breakthrough arrives.

Name the hard circumstances honestly, then name the character of God, too. That posture is open to you right now. In the tension between what you see and what God has said, your faith can grow. Not despite the pressure of the marketplace, but right in the middle of it. Faith can grow even because of your trials. © 2026. C.C. But when you forget how committed God is to helping you, it’s easy to stop asking for his help and to start depending on yourself.

Perhaps you only ask God for the “big stuff” and not the “small stuff.” Guess what? Everything is small to God. None of your requests are big in God’s eyes. He has every hair on your head numbered, and he knows how many fell out in the sink this morning.

You’re not bothering God when you give him your requests; he’s the one who set up the system of prayer in the first place. That’s why the New Testament tells you more than 20 times to ask for whatever you need in prayer. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you” (NIV).

Sometimes, instead of asking God for something, you just worry about it. But if it’s big enough to worry about, it’s big enough to pray about. Worry won’t solve anything, but prayer will.

God grows your faith and trust the same way a parent teaches a child to trust.

The Bible says, “If you . . . know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give . . . to those who

ask him” (Luke 11:13 NLT).

Here’s how it works between a parent and child. First, the child recognizes an unmet need. Second, the child expresses that need. Third, the parent meets that need.

God uses this same cycle to teach you how to trust him: You have an unmet need. You express that unmet need to God. He meets that need, and you learn to trust him more.

If you’re not expressing your needs to God, how can you grow in trust?

When you ask God, he will always prove his goodness. But sometimes you’ll have to wait patiently for God’s timing to deliver. He often does not give immediate answers because he wants to test your faith.

Go ahead—try it today. Take your needs to God in prayer. Then watch for the ways he answers your prayers and meets those needs. You’ll learn to trust that God is reliable and that you can count on him, no matter what.

We’re Not Going To Get Any Better

Why Waste Friendliness on SelfCentered Beachgoers?

Despite igniting some unrealistic hopes among those clothed in red, white and blue, the USMNT hit the wall with its performance in the World Cup. Top sixteen. About where we belong.

Christian Pulisic is our best player.

He can take opponents off the ball, a skill in short supply. A good attacking player, with occasional flashes of brilliance. But he’s not Messi, not Ronaldo, not Vini Jr, not Haaland, not Kane, not M’Bappé, not Yamal. He does not make the players around him better. He is a flaccid leader; a bit of a whiner. Looks great in beer commercials, though.

In my view, we have reached our ceiling. We are not able to improve our standing on the world stage, teamwise.

And, we will not develop players beyond the capabilities of Reyna, McBride, Dempsey, Donovan and Pulisic.

There are two principal obstacles: the culture, and capitalism. And, I see no inclination to overcome either of these impediments.

First is the culture; the way young men are encouraged to develop physically from the age of toddlers. We are a “hand-centric” people. At an early age boys are given bats, gloves, hockey sticks. We give them balls to throw, shoot, pass with their hands. The feet are ancillary.

The great soccer nations are all “foot-centric”. Boys spend the entire day dribbling a ball, inside or outside, on or off the field. The ball becomes an appendage. And, it is always a soccer ball. As a culture, we are too ‘handsy’, and the available pool of boys with skilled feet is very small.

The second obstacle is far more complex. Basically, we have a youth developmental system that is “pay-toplay”. Its contours are explained succinctly in an essay published by the great soccer writer, Henry Bushnell, in The Athletic.

We are the only nation in the world that forbids public funding of Olympic sports. The Amateur Sports Act of 1978 insures that. Part of this national obsession with low taxes, a core value of the Republican Party. So, we turn over development of our young players to the vagaries of capitalism. Assuring that only people “with means” can access the best coaching. And, the process is expensive, exclusive, and produces mediocre outcomes.

The U.S. system “is not a youth-centered or a talent-development system,” Tom Farrey, executive director of the Aspen Institute’s Sports & Society program, told The Athletic. “It’s primarily a system set up to use kids to make money for adults.”

So there you have it. We have privatized health care in this country; very costly, exclusionary, and producing shitty outcomes. And, we have privatized soccer development, very costly, exclusionary, and producing equally shitty outcomes.

Absent transformational changes in the ways we develop young soccer athletes, we have reached our ceiling as a nation. But, we can smugly say we have low taxes, and only fat-cat donors in the oil industry, the munitions industry, the insurance industry, and the Trump family are subsidized.

Summer Struggles at Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control

Palm Beach County Public Safety Department Animal Care and Control Division (PBCACC) is the only open-admission shelter in Palm Beach County, which means we take in any animal in need of help. As of the morning of July 7th, PBCACC was 30% over capacity for dog and cat populations and had 20 additional animals of other species in its care as well. In total, there are over 300 animals in the shelter’s care Summer is a difficult time for shelters across the country as intakes tend to increase rapidly and adoption and foster numbers steadily drop while families go away for vacation. Volunteers Remove 184 Pounds of Litter and Recycle 21 Pounds of Plastic During Boynton Beach Park Cleanup

More than 60 volunteers from ASEZ WAO (Save the Earth from A to Z, We Are One Family), the young adult worker volunteer group of the World Mission Society Church of God, joined members of the Boynton Beach community on Sunday, July 12, to help beautify Caloosa Park in partnership with the City of Boynton Beach’s Parks & Recreations Department.

The cleanup was conducted as part

of ASEZ WAO’s global Green Earth Campaign, an environmental initiative that encourages communities to take action through litter removal, plastic reduction, recycling efforts, and environmental awareness. Supporting the City of Boynton Beach’s Sustainability Program, volunteers removed 184 pounds of litter and collected 21 pounds of plastic for recycling, helping to reduce pollution, protect local ecosystems, and create a cleaner environment for the community.

The Boynton Beach cleanup was one of two environmental volunteer events conducted by ASEZ WAO on July 12, with volunteers serving communities from Fort Lauderdale to Boynton Beach through coordinated cleanup efforts.

“Every act of service, no matter how small, contributes to protecting our environment for future generations,” said an ASEZ WAO volunteer.

Remember the 2024 sale of a 2.4-acre parcel once used for the entrance sign at the Westchester Country Club in Boynton Beach for $900,000?

Now Delray Beach-based developer Palm Cove LLC has obtained approval to put seven single-family, two-story homes on the small parcel.

The tract had been owned since 1979 by the Pipers Glen planned-unit development, where Westchester Country Club is located. County commissioners approved a rezoning request on Tuesday, July 14, allowing the seven-home project to move forward by a vote of 5-2.

Labeled the Palm Cove Subdivision, it is located at the southwest corner of Military Trail and Pipers Glen Boulevard. Access would be provided from Pipers Glen Boulevard through an internal private street serving the seven homes. The proposed lots would be about 65 feet wide and approximately 107 feet deep.

Tuscany Bay HOA President Paul Berliner objected to the zoning change request, noting that the developer bought the parcel knowing there was a restriction requiring the site be maintained as open space. “The builder took a gamble, and now wants to change the rules,” Berliner said.

But county planners noted the underlying zoning allows the developer to build as many as 12 homes, stating that land available for development is increasingly scarce in central Palm Beach County.

The site was approved in 1979 as open space and a sales information area for the Pipers Glen PUD. In 2024, the Pipers Glen Property Owners Association voted to sell the land to the current owner to avoid the expense of maintaining it. The seven homes would not be part of Pipers Glen.

County planners determined the project is compatible with surround-

ing development, which includes residential neighborhoods and the nearby Tuscany Bay community.

But Berliner and other Tuscany Bay residents argued the two-story homes are not compatible with Tuscany Bay, the adjacent community. He was concerned over the height of the two-story homes, stressing that the new homeowners would be looking down on Tuscany Bay single-story homes. Berliner also objected to the decision to the one-minute time limit imposed on speakers.

County Mayor Sara Baxter and Commissioner Maria Sachs voted against the project with Sachs unsuccesfully calling for a postponement to allow the builder to address the concerns of Tuscany Bay. The builder’s agent, land-use planner Bonnie Miskel, agreed to continue discussions with Tuscany Bay but said the problem is the homeowners don’t want anything built on the small parcel. Miskel agreed to lower the height of the homes from 35 to 30 feet.

Pipers Glen has been the targeted by builders for additional development The Palm Beach Post reported in June that 49 townhomes are expected to be built on 12 acres at Westchester Country Club that once was set aside for a nine-hole golf course.

The existing 27-hole regulation course and its clubhouse will not be affected and will remain open. New Jersey-based New City Westchester Development LLC bought the entire course from Westchester Golf and Country Club in 2023 for $4.9 million.

Bachelors of Broadway at Sugar Sand Park Community Center Bachelors of Broadway: Gentlemen of the Theatre will take the stage Sunday at 1 p.m., presented by Epic Arts Management. The PG-rated production features three vocalists performing songs from classic and contemporary Broadway musicals, including Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, Jersey Boys, and Les Misérables, with symphonic prerecorded accompaniment.

Crowds Gather at Boca Raton’s Mizner Park for Goals & GoodTimesWatch Party

By Caris Weinberg Early Saturday evening, soccer fans gathered at Mizner Park Amphitheater for the free outdoor Goals & Good Times Watch Party, where they watched the Norway vs. England quarterfinal on a large screen alongside fellow supporters.

Throughout the match, the crowd remained energetic as cheers echoed across Mizner Park whenever either team scored, creating an exciting atmosphere in the heart of Downtown Boca Raton.

Fans arrived wearing England and Norway jerseys, team colors, and other soccer apparel. Additionally, supporters representing other countries joined the festivities, celebrating the sport alongside the competing nations’ fans.

The event featured a variety of activities and attractions, including an LED Fuji sound system, a live DJ, soccer open

play (B.Y.O. Ball), oversized inflatable soccer games, a vintage jersey shop, a custom hat bar, a beer garden, and international food vendors. Jerseys, custom hats, food, and beverages were also available for purchase.

Meanwhile, Mizner Park Amphitheater was decorated with England and Norway flags, adding to the festive international atmosphere.

Overall, the watch party brought together soccer enthusiasts from across the community for an evening filled with excitement, friendly competition and shared appreciation for the sport.

The Goals & Good Times Watch Party was part of the City of Boca Raton’s annual Summer in the City series, which offers residents and visitors free entertainment throughout the summer under the stars.

By Stacy Carchman The City of Boynton Beach City Commission came together for a special meeting on July 14 to discuss proposed resolution R26-123 relating to fire rescue services in Boynton Beach and a proposed increase in assessment rates.

The commission debated the proposed fire assessment and millage rate rollback, which will affect the city’s budget. The resolution was approved with a focus on continuous budget review and potential further reductions once the final budget is discussed in September.

The city council decided to vote on the proposal which later can be amend-

ed if there are any potential reductions in the future.

Commissioner McCray voiced his concern for the constituents in his District 2 who may not be able to afford higher assessment rates for fire rescue services. However, there was a discussion on the possibility of waivers for residents who cannot afford it.

After the City Council’s legislative break, in September, the budget will be analyzed in more detail to identify additional cost reductions so that the city can achieve the proposed millage rollback without increasing the fire assessment. www.bocaratontribune.com

SPORTS Tuchel’s Florida Blueprint Exorcised England’s Tropical Ghosts

South Florida in July doesn’t just offer heat; it offers a suffocating, atmospheric weight which makes sports and high performance extremely difficult. By the time England and Norway kicked off their World Cup Quarterfinal at Miami Stadium, the air was thick enough to chew, and the heat index was hovering deep into the danger zone. It was the kind of oppressive environment that melts tactical game plans and reduces the world’s greatest athletes to gasping, heavy-legged versions of themselves. It was arguably the hottest match in the history of the FIFA World Cup – this depends on which metric you use.

To the casual observer, England’s ability to survive a grueling 120 minutes and emerge with a 2-1 extra-time victory was a testament to grit and as Thomas Tuchel put it post-match “mentality”.

But having covered the England National Team either remotely or in person since 2006 (I attended my first match as a media member at Wembley in 2008 after covering England off television for a year or more prior), I saw something entirely different. And in the interest of full disclosure, despite being American, my connection to England’s football culture has led me through the years to cheer for them as much as do the US on both the men’s and women’s side of the sport.

On Saturday in person, I saw a masterclass in modern sports science—and the definitive exorcism of England’s past tournament failures.

The Haunted Memories of Brazil 2014 As I sat watching the sweat pour off the players during the anthems, my mind immediately flashed back to 2014. I was on the ground for England’s preparations under Roy Hodgson, embedding myself in England’s pre-tournament camp for a tournament

in Brazil that would ultimately end in a dismal group-stage exit. In fact, I argued that England despite their loads of talent in 2014 were probably the SINGLE WORST TEAM in the entire 2014 competition which consisted of 32 sides. That’s how dire their performances in the Brazilian heat were.

Back then, the Three Lions treated the tropical heat of Manaus and the sticky humidity of Rio like an enemy to be feared and avoided. The acclimation strategy felt underbaked, old-school, and fundamentally flawed. When the whistle blew in Brazil, England wilted and looked completely overwhelmed.

They looked physically suffocated by the environment, lacking the oxygen and the stamina to play at their accustomed European pace.

For over a decade, the narrative remained: England simply couldn’t handle the heat.

The Sunshine State Acclimation Blueprint

But 2026 was different. This time, Head Coach Thomas Tuchel one of the most accomplished club managers in club football and his meticulously assembled staff refused to let the climate dictate their destiny. Instead of hiding from the Florida elements, they leaned entirely into them.

I spent multiple days watching the squad train at their base in Palm Beach Gardens leading up to the tournament. It was brutal, calculated work.

Tuchel’s staff didn’t just schedule standard tactical sessions; they engineered controlled heat-exposure blocks, monitoring sweat-rate data and hydration metrics with clinical precision. Sports science took a lead.

I tracked them across the state to watch their pre-tournament friendlies in Tampa and Orlando. In those matches, you could visibly see the transformation happening. While the players initially struggled with the suffocating Gulf Coast and Central Florida air, es-

pecially in the Tampa match, by the second part of the first half of the Orlando match, the heavy breathing had subsided. They weren’t just enduring the climate anymore; they were adapting to it. They were learning how to manage their energy expenditure in a furnace.

The Ultimate Payoff in Miami Every single drop of sweat spilled in Palm Beach Gardens, Tampa, and Orlando paid dividends in the second half and beyond against Norway.

While a phenomenal Norwegian side led by Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard began to visibly flag under the Miami humidity, England’s reserves were remarkably deep. When the match pushed into extra time, Norway’s players were bent over, hands on hips, desperately searching for a breeze that didn’t exist.

Meanwhile, the Three Lions still had the legs to press, to transition, and to punish.

The Defining Moment: In the 93rd minute, when Jude Bellingham burst through the heart of the Norwegian defense to strike the winning blow, it wasn’t just a flash of individual genius.

It was an engineering triumph.

Bellingham had the explosive power left in his lungs and legs to make that run because his body had been conditioned to thrive in this exact crucible.

Tuchel and his staff deserve immense credit. They looked at the logistical nightmare of a summer tournament in the American South and built a bulletproof physiological strategy around it. By respecting the heat rather than fearing it, England didn’t just survive the biggest sports event in South Florida history—they conquered it.

Now England get to go indoors to the Climate-controlled atmosphere of Atlanta to face the great rival-Argentina for a chance to play in the FIFA World Cup Final. It’s all been made possible by the work done here in Florida.
