Their free 1 to 4 p.m. July Fourth block party drew people from all over the region and even the state. One family came all the way in from Jacksonville and stayed overnight just to be there. “We wish we had this where we live,” said Gilbert Cruz, with his wife Gaille and their kids.

Jenny and Marlon Wong from Weston were there for their second visit Saturday, this time bringing her mom and three kids. “It was fun last time,” she said. Nicole and Andres Ramirez with daughter Bella said they’re regulars and “live 5 minutes away.” In Deerfield Beach. Maria Colmenares, a grandmother from Plantation, said it was her first time. She brought four kids. There were plenty of strollers and a few groups of adults on field trips.

No doubt Boca’s extensive social media July Fourth announcements and the freebie had something to do with attendance. But only one person mentioned that’s how they found out about it.

The Children’s Science Explorium’s hands-on exhibits got plenty of foot traffic, too.

“It’s nice to see the buildings full,” said Jacqueline Windus, recreation centers manager for all three Boca Raton community centers. “There are crowds from everywhere. It’s nice to offer something in the middle of the day,” she added.

Sugar Sand also has a fieldhouse with indoor sports like pickleball and basketball, and the Willow Theatre with live shows and other performances for kids and adults. Palm Beach County Proclaims July Palm Beach International Airport is now 2026 as Park and Recreation Month Donald J. Trump International Airport

On Tuesday, July 7, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed July 2026 as Park and Recreation Month, recognizing the essential role parks and recreation play in promoting health, wellness, conservation, economic vitality and community connection throughout Palm Beach County.

This year’s national theme, “The Power Of,” celebrates the many ways parks and recreation bring people and communities together through the power of connection, play, community, nature, belonging and well-being.

The Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating 54 years of creating opportunities for healthy, happy living. Through more than 110 parks and recreational facilities,

the department provides spaces and programs that support physical and mental well-being, environmental stewardship, youth development and lifelong recreation.

“Park and Recreation Month is an opportunity to recognize the positive impact parks and recreation have on our community every day,” said Jennifer Cirillo, Director of the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Department. “In addition to supporting healthy, active lifestyles, parks and recreation contribute to Palm Beach County’s economic vitality through tourism, business attraction and enhanced quality of life. We encourage everyone to get outside this July, visit a county park and experience the power of parks and recreation firsthand.”

Boca Raton Public Library Presents … First Ever Library Card Art Contest

The Boca Raton Public Library invites community members of all ages to unleash their creativity in its first ever Library Card Art Contest. In anticipation of Library Card Sign-Up Month in September, participants are encouraged to create original artwork inspired by the theme “Your Library, Your World,” capturing what the library means to them and their community.

Submissions will be accepted from July 1 through July 29. The contest is open to all ages with four groups for entry: Children (ages 3-10); Tweens (ages 11-13), Teens (ages 14-17), and Adults (ages 18+). All entries must be submitted Jul 9 -Jul 18 , 2026

as physical artwork and include a completed application form, available at any Boca Library service desk or online at myboca.us/2994/Library-Card-SignUp-Month-and-Art-Conte.

One winner will be selected from each age category, along with one overall winner whose artwork will become the design for the library’s next new library card. In a historic and highly coordinated operational shift, Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport. The rebranding marks the first time a major U.S. commercial airport has been named after a sitting president.

While the administrative shift takes effect immediately, aviation authorities are rolling out the changes in a unique, multi-phased transition that impacts air traffic control, booking systems, and travelers differently.

The Road to the Rebrand The path to the airport’s new moniker began in late 2025 when Florida State Representative Meg Weinberger introduced the proposal. In February 2026, the Florida Legislature approved the bill along strictly partisan lines, passing 81–30 in the House and 25–11 in the Senate.

Governor Ron DeSantis signed the legislation into law on March 30, 2026.

The state law effectively preempted local authority over the naming of major commercial airports in Florida, legally mandating that Palm Beach County transition the facility to honor the president.

Because the new name is subject to trademark protection, the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners signed a formal Naming Rights and License Agreement with the Trump Organization on May 5, 2026, protecting the county against potential trademark infringement claims. Following approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on May 15, the operational green light was set for early July.

The “DJT” Code Rollout: What Travelers Need to Know Perhaps the most complex element of the renaming is the transition of the airport’s three-letter codes. To maintain safety and prevent disruptions across global flight networks, the FAA and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are executing the code updates in two distinct phases: Phase 1: Operational Switch (Im-

mediate): The FAA Location Identifier (LID) officially switches from PBI to DJT, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) code changes from KPBI to KDJT. This shift affects pilots, air traffic controllers, and flight-planning systems.

Phase 2: Passenger System Switch (August 18, 2026): The IATA code— the three-letter identifier travelers see on boarding passes, baggage tags, and travel booking websites—will remain PBI for a 40-day buffer window. It will officially change to DJT on August 18 at the request of major airlines to allow booking systems to update smoothly.

Traveler Advisory: If you are booking a flight, checking baggage, or tracking an upcoming trip before August 18, 2026, you must continue to use the code PBI. Airline reservation systems will automatically redirect PBI searches to the newly designated DJT operational flights.

What Is Changing (and What Isn’t) While the physical and digital branding of the airport is undergoing a massive face-lift, the core logistics of the facility remain unchanged.

Ownership & Control: Palm Beach County retains full ownership, operational control, and financial governance of the airport. The transition is strictly a branding change in conjunction with the Trump family.

Flight Operations: Airline routes, schedules, and daily airport services will continue without interruption.

Funding: The estimated $5.5 million required to update physical signage, terminal branding, and public-facing materials will not be funded by local property taxes. Instead, the transition is being covered by airport revenues and anticipated state funding appropriations.

The physical overhaul of the airport terminals, highway signage, and branding materials is expected to roll out in staggered phases over the coming months. For travelers using President Donald Trump International Airport, baring with the confusion the next few months will be essential.

The Beauty of Joy-Filled Work

Trust God More and Worry Less

My great-grandfather lived into his mid-90’s. Wade (his first name) was primarily a roofer and a parttime farmer. He loved to work hard and enjoy life. I remember when Great-Grandpa Boxx was 89 years old, he leaned over toward me and with a twinkle in his eye, whispered, “Don’t tell your parents, but I just finished roofing the church on the corner yesterday.”

Can you imagine many people at that stage of life taking on such an arduous project? To the contrary, many people speak often about how much they anticipate the day when they can retire, when they can cease the dayto-day grind of going to work. But not my great-grandfather. For him, work was a joyful pursuit; he regarded it as very important, even beyond the typical retirement age.

All around the world we can see awe-inspiring examples of people who threw themselves wholeheartedly into their work. There are the great and wondrous churches in Europe, the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal in India, the modern towering architectural marvels of Dubai.

The United States just celebrated the 250th anniversary of its founding, and numerous buildings in the capital city of Washington, D.C. attest to the hard work and dedication of many people.

The story is told of a stonemason in Paris, France centuries ago, laboring on a small section of wall.

Someone asked him, “What are you doing?” With great enthusiasm the worker responded without hesitation, “I’m building a cathedral!” His part might have been small, but he knew it was important.

Most of us will not have the opportunity to participate in constructing amazing landmarks that will last for centuries, but we all can draw satisfaction – and joy – from whatever form of work we perform.

For much of his life, King Solomon had explored every type of pleasure, entertainment and ambitious project he could imagine. Ultimately, he concluded “all of them are meaningless” (Ecclesiastes 1:14), a Jul 9 -Jul 18 , 2026

(Ecclesiastes 3:22). He also advised his readers, “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom” (Ecclesiastes 9:10).

In the Bible, we discover that rather than being a burden, from the beginning God intended for work to bring satisfaction, fulfillment, and joy. In the Genesis creation account, we find that His first command to Adam and Eve was to “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air…. I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it.

They will be yours for food” (Genesis 1:28-30).

Theologians called that the “cultural mandate,” God appointing the men and women He had created to serve as stewards – managers and workers – to cultivate and maintain all He had made. “‘Do not be worried and upset,’ Jesus told them. ‘Believe in God and believe also in me.’” John 14:1 (GNT) You know what it’s like to live in constant worry, don’t you? You feel uptight, your stomach seems tied in knots, and your whole body is tense. But you don’t have to live that way. Anything that’s learned can be unlearned. It’s time to start unlearning worry.

God has promised to take care of you; that’s his job, not yours. The starting point to letting go of worry is to maintain this humble attitude: “God is God, and I am not.” When you understand this important truth, worry will start to disappear from your life.

The Bible says, “‘Do not be worried and upset,’ Jesus told them. ‘Believe in God and believe also in me’” (John 14:1 GNT).

Anytime you worry, it reveals a particular area of your life where you have not given God first place. That’s because any part of your life where God is not in control is going to be a source of insecurity and worry.

So what can you do about that? You can welcome Jesus into your life’s “house.”

Give him access to all aspects of your life—the living room, the bedroom, the kitchen, and even all the closets. He already knows what’s in there. In fact, God knows your needs better than you do. You have needs you’re not even aware of—but none of them will surprise God. Jesus said, “Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:32-33 NLT).

When you make Jesus Christ number one in every area of your life, it simplifies your priorities and gives you a lot less to worry about.

Jesus taught, “I am the good shepherd;

I know my own sheep, and they know me. . . . I sacrifice my life for the sheep” (John 10:14-15 NLT).

If God loved you enough to die for you, he certainly loves you enough to feed you, lead you, and meet whatever need you have today.

Try this: Start every day by reminding yourself that God is good. When you wake up, sit on the side of your bed and say, “The Lord is my Shepherd. So, Jesus, I’m expecting you to feed me, lead me, and meet my needs today. I will give you first place in every area of my life. And I will trust you.”

As you begin every day by trusting God, you’ll start to see your worries fall away.

Talk It Over What “rooms” of your life do you tend to try to control yourself, causing you to worry more?

Why does letting go of worry require humility?

What can you do first thing every day to help you not to worry? What can you do at night, before you go to bed?

Will you trust Jesus with your whole life today?

The Bible says, “For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16 CSB).

If you’re ready to give your life to Jesus, pray this simple prayer: “Dear God, I believe Jesus Christ is your Son. I confess I have sinned, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus died to take away my sins and that you raised him to life. I want to trust Jesus as my Savior and follow him as Lord, from this day forward.

Instead of worrying about controlling my own life, I want you to guide my life and help me to do your will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”

It was a Sunday afternoon and the sun was punishing Los Angeles with that typical cruelty reserved for the working class. Vicky was being squeezed on the stadium ramp at a World Cup match between a guy selling overpriced giant pretzels and a dozen soccer fans with veins bulging in their necks.

Beside her was her son, Alex, who lately divided his time between his high school textbooks and the illusion that their national team was actually going to win the World Cup, sweating with optimism. Vicky , who had left her own knees in the sand playing beach volleyball and understood the sweat of someone with a ball in their hands, looked at that crowd suffering in advance and asked: “Alex, why do we do this to our mental health? What’s the fun in suffering over something we can’t control?”

He shrugged, adjusted his team jersey, and replied with the philosophical depth of a teenage boy: “I don’t know, Mom. I just know I need to be here.”

That “I don’t know” kept echoing in Vicky’s head and she went looking for answers. And she discovered that a bunch of guys in lab coats over in England had lost sleep trying to answer exactly that: what do people get out of watching twenty-two grown men chasing a soccer ball? And science’s answer is startling, my people: sports are the masses’ Xanax.

British researchers surveyed thousands of people and found that attending a live sporting event scandalously increases the feeling that life is worth living. It reduces loneliness. And mind you, the cure doesn’t require a VIP World Cup ticket. The study guaranteed that even watching a Sunday league pickup game at the local neighborhood park counts.

The simple act of being in the middle of a bunch of strangers, cursing the same referee, and hugging someone you’ve never seen before when a goal is scored, is a wildly powerful antidepressant. Watching on TV also helps with life satisfaction, the experts said, but it doesn’t cure loneliness with the same efficiency as the human warmth (and the smell of stale beer and stadium hot dogs) of the bleachers.

But then the savvy reader, vaccinat-

ed against illusions, might ask: “Claudia, how can it be good for the brain if people leave the house knowing there’s a 50% chance of coming back with heartburn, in a foul mood, and wanting to kick the couch?”

That’s where the magic of the human brain comes in. An American psychologist, who has studied our species for decades, confirmed that fans know this risk. It’s a voluntary and calculated masochism. But sports teach people resilience.

Academics even created some pompous acronyms to explain this famous defense mechanism. It works like this: when the team wins, the brain appropriates the glory. Fans puff out their chests and say: “WE won. WE played great!” They take ownership of someone else’s success as if they had scored the game-winning bicycle kick themselves.

Now, when the team gets blown out, the first-person plural mysteriously vanishes. They sever ties with failure at the speed of light. The phrase shifts to: “THEY lost. THOSE bums can’t play to save their lives.” It is the purest, finest gymnastics of self-esteem. And, according to science, this helps people deal with the rejections and curveballs they take in real life.

On top of everything, being a fan organizes a person’s calendar. American life is already chaotic enough; you never know if there’s going to be a massive gridlock on the I-405 or if the price of groceries will double by Friday. But you know, with absolute certainty, where you will be on a Wednesday night for the World Cup knockouts.

The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties announced today it will award a record $6,560,035 in grants to 177 nonprofit organizations serving residents throughout the region. The investment, which is the largest competitive grantmaking effort in the Community Foundation’s 54-year history, represents both the highest dollar amount and the greatest number of nonprofit recipients ever funded in a single grant cycle.

The Community Foundation is a nonprofit organization that creates partnerships with donors, nonprofits and community members to address the region’s chronic and emerging issues. Since its founding in 1972, the Community Foundation has awarded grants to more than 3,600 nonprofit organizations, helping strengthen the communities it serves through strategic, community-driven philanthropy.

BUSINESS Over 200,000 People Quit Their Jobs Each Month in Florida, New Data Reveals

A new study reveals the states with the highest average job resignation rates in the US, with Florida 18th on the list.

Template website analyzed the most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics data on resignation rates for each US state. The study looks at the number of quits per month as a percentage of employment, as well as the average number of resignations per month. The average has been calculated using the latest four months’ figures (September 2025 to December 2025).

Overall, in the US, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that resignation rates have increased from a rate of 1.9 in December 2024 to a rate of 2 in

December 2025.

Alaska has the highest job resignation rate in the US, with a rate of 2.83, compared to the national average of 1.98. Using the latest figures from September 2025 to December 2025, the study found that an average of 9,500 Alaska residents quit their jobs each month.

In second place is Indiana, with a resignation rate of 2.8. The study found that on average, 91,500 people in the state quit their jobs every month.

Montana is in third position, with a 2.73 resignation rate on average for September 2025 to December 2025. An average of 14,500 people in the state quit their jobs every month.

Louisiana is next, with a quit rate of 2.55 on average and an average of 51,000 residents quitting their jobs every month.

South Dakota ranks fifth, with a resignation rate of 2.53 between September and December 2025. The state averages 12,000 people leaving their jobs each month.

West Virginia and Wyoming have the sixth-highest job resignation rates

at 2.45. In West Virginia, an average of 17,500 people quit their jobs each month, and in Wyoming, it’s an average of 7,250.

North Dakota is seventh on the list, with a quit rate of 2.43, and an average of 11,000 residents quitting their jobs on a monthly basis.

In joint eighth place are Michigan and Idaho, with resignation rates of 2.4 in both states. In Michigan, 109,250 people quit their jobs each month on average, and in Idaho, 21,000 people quit their jobs each month on average.

Mississippi follows in ninth position, with a quit rate of 2.38 for September 2025 to December 2025, and an average of 28,500 residents quitting their jobs each month.

North Carolina and Ohio complete the ranking, with resignation rates of 2.33. North Carolina averages 118,500 people quitting their jobs each month, while Ohio averages 132,300 people quitting their jobs each month.

ELECTIONS Property Tax Changes Could Threaten Palm Beach County

Palm Beach County property values remain on a steady upward trajectory, heavily driven by a boom in new residential development. However, looming state tax reform proposals could soon introduce significant budgetary challenges for local governments.

During yesterday’s Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners meeting, Property Appraiser Dorothy Jacks delivered a comprehensive valuation update, balancing strong economic indicators with a cautionary look at upcoming legislative changes.

New Construction Fuels 6.9% Growth According to preliminary estimates presented by Jacks, countywide taxable property values saw a robust 6.9% increase from 2025 to 2026.

Notably, this growth is not stemming from the runaway price appreciation of existing homes seen in previous years. Instead, it is being fueled primarily by a surge in new development.

The expanding tax base was significantly bolstered by: Nearly 4,000 new residential units added to the county tax roll.

More than $5 billion contributed in net new taxable value from these new properties alone.

State Tax Proposals Threaten Local Revenue While the current numbers paint a picture of fiscal health, Jacks shifted focus to a major point of concern: property tax reform proposals recently adopted by the Florida Legislature.

If Florida voters ultimately approve these measures at the ballot box, the changes could dramatically reshape local finances. Jacks warned that the reforms could substantially reduce property tax revenues across the

board, impacting not just county administration, but also individual municipalities and school districts.

“If ultimately approved by Florida voters, these proposals could substantially reduce local government property tax revenues, affecting counties, municipalities, and school districts.”

Disentangling Values From Tax Rates As discussions turned to potential financial impacts on residents, Jacks took the opportunity to remind both the commissioners and the public about the distinct separation of duties in the property tax process.

The Property Appraiser’s Office: Responsible solely for determining fair property values based on state law and current market conditions.

Elected Taxing Authorities: Local governments, school boards, and special districts hold the sole power to set the millage (tax) rates that ultimately dictate a homeowner’s final tax bill.

Commissioners Guarded Over Future Budgets The valuation update sparked an immediate, serious dialogue among the Board of County Commissioners.

With the threat of reduced revenue looming from the state level, several commissioners voiced anxiety over how these changes might impact essential county services and future budget cycles.

The board quickly transitioned into discussing the long-term implications of the pending state tax proposals. While the county’s real estate foundation remains structurally sound for the fiscal year ahead, local officials are already bracing for a shifting legislative landscape that may require tighter fiscal belts in the near future.

Boynton Beach City Commission Met on July 7 and Approved Several Key Items

The city commission approved the first reading of the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Boynton Beach last night.

This ordinance amends the comprehensive plan with over 130 changes and 13 themes. The comprehensive plan has not been looked at for many years so big changes are coming, including economic development elements. It also includes updates such as statutory compliance, policy alignment and governance modernization.

Much of the meeting involved public comments from the audience emphasizing the importance of preserving the Boynton Beach Forest and the green space. A developer wants to come in and build townhouses on the property. A vast majority of residents want to preserve this strip of land for ecological and community value. There are many endangered species on the property now including gopher tortoises. There is also not much green space in Boynton left with all the

development going on.

The problem is that not all the parcels of land in question are city owned.

The property lies in an area that involves Palm Beach County. However, the commission discussed a restrictive covenant to protect city-owned parcels from development. After discussion, the city commission voted unanimously on proposed resolution R26-120 to approve a declaration of restrictive covenant to prevent further development of the Boynton Forest. City Attorney, Shawna Lamb gave an in-depth presentation on this matter.

There are still some issues on the property in question regarding trespassing and these issues still must be worked out with no trespassing signs soon.

Other resolutions that were passed included a second reading on Pence Park which includes a major site plan modification including a water feature and dog waste receptacles. A resolution passed that approves swimming lessons for children that also helps with drowning prevention between the city and the county.

Adam Temple is to become Deputy City Manager and there were an approval and discussion of a beautification board. The downtown waterfront overlay district was approved with a contingency plan for increased parking. Also approved were ordinances amending zoning and lighting standards. SPORTS Boca Town Center Mall Brings Community Together with Soccer Watch Parties

The Town Center at Boca Raton transformed its Food Court into a soccer Fan Zone, hosting watch parties for soccer matches on June 24, July 1, and July 7.

The live broadcasts ran from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., bringing together sports, entertainment, dining, and retail experiences for visitors. The events created a community-focused gathering where fans could watch the matches while enjoying activities throughout the mall.

The Fan Zone featured largescreen match broadcasts, commentary from a live MC, DJ entertainment, soccer-themed activities, photo opportunities, seating areas, and interactive games.

Retail and dining partners participated in the watch parties with sam-

ples, raffles, and promotions. Participating businesses included La Boulangerie, Que Pasa, Fabletics, Cohen’s Optical Outlet, and Simon+.

The events attracted families, children, and returning attendees who gathered to support their teams. Fans wore jerseys, cheered during matches, and created an energetic atmosphere throughout the mall.

The soccer watch parties supported community engagement by encouraging visitors to spend time dining, shopping, and connecting with fellow fans.

The events were part of a broader effort across Simon properties to create unique fan experiences, with each location developing its own soccer-themed programming.

The eyes of the sporting world will lock onto South Florida this Saturday as Hard Rock Stadium takes center stage for a historic FIFA World Cup 2026™ quarterfinal showdown between England and Norway.

Remembering What Matters: A New Era of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Florida is home to more than 580,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number continues to grow as the population ages. In South Florida, the need for specialized memory care is especially urgent.
