Shops at Boca Center Hosts Holiday Kick-Off for Boca Toy Drive On Friday, November 1st, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the Shops at Boca Center is ringing in the holiday season by hosting their annual Tree Lighting and Holiday Kickoff benefiting the Boca Raton Rotary Annual Toy Drive.

The festive, family-friendly event draws up to 2000 attendees every year and will feature live holiday performances featuring the West Boca High School Choir, Santa’s arrival, photos with Santa for a $10 donation, card making, cookie decorating, the tree lighting, freebies, and more.

To support the toy drive, attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or donate $10 to get a photo with Santa. The Boca Raton Rotary Annual Toy Drive is also accepting online donations, made easy through an Amazon Wishlist , allowing toys to be shipped directly to the drive.

COMMUNITY Applications Open for Boca’s ‘Deck the House’ Contest

By Caris Weinberg Applications are open for the City of Boca Raton’s annual ‘Deck The House Contest,’ where residents of Boca Raton compete for trophies and yard signs for the best holiday displays in several categories.

The City encourages its community to get their decorations out of storage and illuminate walls, rooftops, doors, and yards with bright lights.

Applicants must apply online by December 20th at 5 p.m., and the winners will be announced through the City social media platforms on December 22nd.

The modern marketplace runs on giftedness. Strategic thinkers. Visionary entrepreneurs. High-performing executives. If you can move the needle, you’re given the platform. Your résumé becomes your brand. Your results become your worth.

I’ve met leaders who can close the deal in the morning, turn a profit by lunch, and still have time to headline a conference before dinner. They are the kind of people others look at and think, That’s the standard. And in purely business terms, it is. But in Kingdom terms?

Not necessarily.

Because Jesus tells us in Matthew 23:19, the gift isn’t what makes something sacred. The altar does.

He was talking to religious leaders who had it backward. They were obsessed with the gift, how polished it looked, how impressive it sounded, while neglecting the altar. And the altar is where something dies. It’s where ambition is laid down. It’s the place of surrender, where your offering becomes holy precisely because it is laid down.

That’s not just temple talk from the first century. That’s Monday morning reality in every boardroom, startup pitch, or quarterly review from Quito to Tainan and Miami to Abuja.

I’ve lived this tension. The skills I honed during my years in the public sector—command presence, decisive leadership, the ability to perform under extreme pressure—were considered workplace gold. Those skills got me noticed. They opened doors. And for a while, I used them exactly the way the world told me to: to climb ladders, to earn approval, to prove I belonged at the table.

And it worked. On paper, I was winning. But in the quiet moments, I realized those gifts, left to themselves, were empty. They didn’t carry eternal weight.

Everything changed when I laid them before Christ. When I stopped asking, ‘How can these serve me?‘ and started asking, ‘How can they serve Him?’ That’s when my leadership stopped being transactional and started becoming transformational. The same instincts that once built my career began building people. The same drive that once secured my position began advancing

His Kingdom.

That’s the pivot point: surrender.

Because here’s the truth, your talent doesn’t become sacred just because it’s successful. A gifted leader can exceed every target and still miss the Kingdom.

A visionary entrepreneur can scale their business and never glorify God. Even generosity can become self-serving if it’s about optics, not obedience.

When you place your work, your strategy, your deal-making, your influence, on the altar of God’s purposes, everything shifts. It stops being about personal gain and starts being about eternal impact. Your leadership becomes worship. And that’s the difference between temporary applause and a lasting legacy.

I’ve seen leaders with extraordinary capacity become a bottleneck to Kingdom work because they refused to surrender what God had given them. High capacity without high surrender is a dangerous combination—it feeds pride, isolates you from accountability, and blinds you to your true mission.

To receive a gift is grace. To sharpen it is stewardship. But to lay it on the altar? That’s worship. That’s where your leadership becomes sacred ground.

So here’s my challenge: Take an honest inventory of your gifts, your influence, and your platform. Ask yourself— are these tools in my hand to build my name, or are they on the altar to magnify His? Managing Stress through Friends and Fun!

High Capacity, Low Surrender?

You were never intended to handle life’s stress alone—God made you for community. And you can’t keep going and going without a break—God made you to need rest and refreshment!

Not even Jesus tried to do life on this earth by himself. He needed other people! The Bible says, “He chose twelve of them to be his apostles, so they could be with him” (Mark 3:14 CEV).

Think about this: A lot of your stress stems from trying to manage life on your own rather than relying on fellow believers. That might work for a while, but what happens when times get tough?

When life gets hard, you need to have a safety net in place already—people you can rely on to help carry your burdens. That’s what Jesus asked his friends to be for him. The night before he went to the cross, he went to a garden to pray and took a small group of his closest friends with him. He told them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me” (Matthew 26:38 NIV).

In his most difficult moment, Jesus didn’t need his friends’ advice or even their words of comfort. He just needed their presence. And when times get tough, you need that, too.

take time for fun—to rest and to recharge. He had infinitely important work to do—he had come to be the Savior of the world, after all—but he still took time for fun. I love how the Phillips paraphrase describes Jesus: “The Son of Man came, enjoying life” (Matthew 11:19).

He encouraged the people around him to take time to relax and take care of themselves, too. The Bible says this: “Crowds of people were coming and going so that Jesus and his followers did not even have time to eat. He said to them, ‘Come away by yourselves, and we will go to a lonely place to get some rest’” (Mark 6:31 NCV).

Jesus understood that we’re not wired for continuous work; we have to take time to slow down.

I Am What I Am

From Police to Presidents, the Pleasure Serving Comes Mostly from Helping Others!

No apologies; no excuses.

My name is Douglas, named for a Master Sergeant dad named Douglas, named for a World War I British General, Douglas Haig, leader of the Expeditionary Forces in Europe. My godfather, Arthur, was a Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Army. My uncle, George, was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, downed over the Netherlands. My brother, George, was a Tanker. Multiple uncles and cousins fought Fidel Castro at the Bay of Pigs. One, Roberto Macia, went on to fight with the 1st Cav in the Battle for Ia Drang in Vietnam.

We show up.

We were raised differently. It would never dawn on us to respond to a directive from my father with a “Why?” From an early age I was taught to accept that life sometimes ladles out discomfort, disappointment and hardships.

I learned to adapt, tolerate and deal with it. I can go for long stretches without food, water or rest. Know that the short cut is not always the best path.

I know that loyalty is a two way

street. That to lead with love results in better outcomes than to lead with fear.

My relationships always begin by assuming the other is a good person, rather than by mistrust of motives. That we have different colored skins but our tears and our blood are the same hue. That empathy is a strength, not a weakness.

To me, character matters, and that includes the candidates I vote for. The ends do not justify the means. I have tasted the bile in my mouth as I have charged into danger rather than run from it. I have a special place in my heart for the 9/11 fire fighters.

I don’t complain and can’t abide whiners. I come to the field to compete.

I know how to win and lose. I dream big.

Sometimes they come true. There has always been tomorrow. I don’t waste time obsessing about doomsday.

I am a Veteran. I have formed bonds with other men to tackle problems and situations that most cannot comprehend. I have been both lucky and blessed. I’m still standing.

Of all President Trumps wheeling and dealing, watching his signing this latest deal with Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, I couldn’t help thinking perhaps this gave him the most pleasure.

It reminded me of what a police officer friend once told me that his greatest pleasure came not from arresting people but helping them.

How true!

Even in sexual encounters, many would agree pleasing a loved one can be just as self-gratifying, sometimes maybe even more so for often we love to give more than receive.

Last week the President gave a lot and had noticeable pleasure announcing a deal to drastically lower the price of weight loss drugs for millions of Americans.

“Today, I’m thrilled to announce that the two world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturers, Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk, have agreed to offer their most popular GLP-1 weight loss drug — I call it the fat drug, remember (joke) — at drastic discounts,” the president said in the Oval Office.

Mr. Trump has previously floated the possibility of lower prices for weight loss drugs and expressed dismay about the high costs. “I call it the fat pill or the fat drug,” he said at an event on drug prices in September.

Now Trump got Eli Lilly, the maker of Zepbound, and Novo Nordisk, the company behind Ozempic and Wegovy, to agree to lower the price of their weight loss drugs for eligible patients on Medicare, Medicaid and for eligible users of the planned “TrumpRx” pharmaceutical website.

Sizeable Reduction The price per month for most eligible people will be $245 to $350 a month on average, administration officials said.

The cost now is as high as $1,350 per month.

Mr. Trump said Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk also agreed to provide all their other medications at “most-favored-nation” prices, meaning Americans will pay a competitively low price like the consumers in other countries do.

TrumpRx, which is expected to launch as early as the end of this year, will allow customers to buy prescription drugs directly from pharmaceutical companies without going through insurance.

When purchased through TrumpRx, the cost will be about $350 per month for injections of Ozempic and Wegovy, officials told reporters and that pricing will go into effect in January.

If the Food and Drug Administration later approves similar GLP-1 drugs intended to be taken orally, the initial dose of those pills will be $149 per month through TrumpRx, officials said.

For eligible patients on Medicaid and Medicare, officials said the cost will be $245 for Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and Zepbound. The Medicare copay is $50.

Shops at Boca Center Hosts Holiday Kick-Off for Boca Toy Drive

By Caris Weinberg On Friday, November 1st, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the Shops at Boca Center is ringing in the holiday season by hosting their annual Tree Lighting and Holiday Kickoff benefiting the Boca Raton Rotary Annual Toy Drive.

The festive, family-friendly event draws up to 2000 attendees every year and will feature live holiday performances featuring the West Boca High School Choir, Santa’s arrival, photos with Santa for a $10 donation, card making, cookie decorating, the tree lighting, freebies, and more.

Veteran Voices Take The Stage at ‘Red, White, & Boca’

By Caris Weinberg Tuesday evening, the City of Boca Raton hosted Red, White, and Boca, a Veterans Day celebration at the Mizner Park Amphitheater.

The four-hour event featured live music by the Coastman Chorus, the American Bombshells, and the Samantha Russell Band, as well as guest speakers including Mayor Scott Singer, City Manager Mark Sohaney, Madeline “Maddy” Mollach, John Schrey, and David Cohen. The celebration also included vendors, some of which were veteran-owned businesses, organizations that assist veterans, and a car show.

Audience members included veterans, their families, children, and other community members, all gathered to show respect for those who served.

Mayor Scott Singer opened the event by reading the Veterans Day Proclamation. “May we honor all of our veterans through a greater commitment to support, help, and serve all who have provided the blessings of liberty,” he said.

For Mark Sohaney, Boca Raton’s city manager and a retired U.S. Navy officer, it was his first Veterans Day out of uniform in 37 years. He spoke about his transition from military ser-

vice to civic duty, highlighting Boca Raton as a Purple Heart City. “Veterans bring far more than their past service. They bring leadership, perspective, and a spirit of giving back that strengthens our neighborhoods, our schools, our businesses, and our government,” Sohaney said. He also recognized the sacrifices of veterans’ families, including relocations, deploy-

ments, and missed celebrations, and encouraged the community to show appreciation through action.

Madeline “Maddy” Mollach, a U.S. Air Force veteran and commander of American Legion Post 277, encouraged the audience to honor veterans every day, not just on Veterans Day, noting that they are neighbors, friends, and family members. “When you see

someone wearing a veteran’s hat, say thank you for your service. Open a door for someone. Smile. Ask them how they’re doing,” she said.

David Cohen, a retired U.S. Air Force officer and dean of the College of Aeronautics at Lynn University, shared experiences from humanitarian missions and combat coordination, emphasizing the lasting bonds among veterans. “At the end of the day, those in uniform—yesterday, today, and tomorrow—share a bond of duty, faithfulness, and purpose. That bond, like the desire for freedom, is everlasting,” he said. Cohen said Veterans Day is about coming together with a unified purpose.

John Schrey, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and national director of military affairs at Haven Health, focused on honoring fallen comrades and supporting veterans’ mental health. He paid tribute to friends lost after their service and stressed the importance of asking for help and using community resources. “We cannot continue to lose these warriors—these heroes—these men and women who were willing to give their lives and come home. But we need to know that you’re struggling,” Schrey said.

‘Merry in Mizner’ Holiday Pop-Up Series Returns to Boca Raton December 6th

Merry in Mizner rolls out starting Saturday, December 6th at 7:00 p.m. in Mizner Park’s Ampitheater under the holiday lights with a ‘Holiday Pops Concert.’ The Symphonia, conducted by the visionary Jacomo Bairos, and joined by the Florida Atlantic University Chorus, will bring musical magic and holiday classics to the iconic Mizner stage.

Tickets start at $15 per person and are available both onsite and online. Doors for the concert open at 6:00 p.m.

Boca’s Second Annual ‘Holiday Pops’ Concert Set for December 6th

For the second year, the City of Boca Raton will host a Holiday Pops concert at the Mizner Park Amphitheater on December 6th at 7:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets are available online starting at $15 and will also be available at the show.

The two-hour concert features The Symphonia, conducted by Jacomo Bairos, and joined by the FAU Chamber Singers and Schola Cantorum of Florida with Chorus Master, Patricia Fleitas. Together, they will bring musical magic and holiday classics to the iconic Mizner stage.

Bairos is a Portuguese-American conductor, producer, and podcast host, known for his eclectic programming and collaborations that push the boundaries of traditional orchestral music. His work emphasizes education, creativity, and wellness throughout the arts community.

Outside food and drinks are not permitted at the event, but food, beverages with a full bar will be available for purchase inside.

Who else but Men Giving Back would have a wheel-spinning tradition of handing out their biggest grants, in this case $100,000 to four winning charities.

That was an Oscar-like moment for the dozen non-profit grant finalists, as grant committee member and co-emcee Alex Price noted when all 12 gathered on stage for The Big Spin Wednesday night.

Dr. Nathan Nachlas was introduced as Men Giving Back’s “godfather,” and this grant-giving charity as the male version of the all-female Impact 100 Palm Beach County that also awards grants to chosen nonprofits.

Among the Men Giving Back Grant Committee, most of whom helped fill the Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club for the Golden Grants Evening, were Al Goldberg, Mike Kazma, Chuck Stout, Bob Tucker, Cliff Viner, Brad Winstead, and “Y” CEO Jason Hagensick.

They’re so thorough, “we go visit them,” and even study their financials before choosing the finalists, noted committee member Gary Hildebrand. Their focus is on education, children, food stability, and mental health services. Men Giving Back has awarded $3.5 million in grants so far, and more than a half-million dollars in 2025 alone, noted Price and co-emcee, ESPN Events/Boca Raton Bowl’s Paige Kornblue, who took turns introducing all the finalists before the spin.

FAU Reveals New Proposal to Increase Tuition for Out-of -State Students

Florida Atlantic University is considering raising the tuition cost for outof-state students by 15% starting in Fall 2026. FAU will propose this plan to the Board of Trustees at their meeting on Tuesday, November 18th, at 10 am. The meeting can be watched live online on the FAU Board of Trustees Homepage.

If this proposal is approved, undergraduate non-resident fees would increase from $493.86 to $567.94 per credit hour. Graduate students would see fees rise from $623.80 to $717.37,

and College of Medicine students could pay $39,584 instead of $34,421. Luckily for students who are residents of Florida, their in-state tuition will not be affected.

“The revenue generated by the proposed increase will help us continue to elevate our institution and provide the world-class experience our students deserve,” the university said in a statement.

FAU hasn’t raised out-of-state fees in over a decade. Officials say the increase is meant to keep up with rising costs and make sure all students contribute fairly to the campus experience.

FAU also stated they would assist negatively affected students with financial aid options if needed.

Even with the tuition increase, FAU says it will remain one of the most affordable options for out-of-state students. However, many students have expressed their frustrations with this proposal, as tuition costs largely impact where they will attend college next year.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held to officially launch the Residences at Lake Worth project, a partnership between Palm Beach County and The Richman Group of Florida, Inc., to deliver new affordable and workforce housing units in Lake Worth Beach.

Palm Beach County is providing $13 million in Housing Bond funding to support the Residences at Lake Worth housing project.

Residences at Lake Worth will consist of three 5-story buildings, including 195 units with brand new one, two, and three-bedroom apartments designated for households earning between Nov 13 - Nov 20, 2025

60% and 120% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The development will be certified under the National Green Building Standards Silver Certification, and will feature modern amenities, including a clubhouse, swimming pool, and 279 parking spaces. The site’s proximity to Palm Tran, Tri-Rail, and Interstate 95 connects residents with the resources and opportunities to thrive. Importantly, of the 195 new apartments being built, 164 are County-assisted units, which will remain affordable for no less than 50 years, ensuring long-term housing stability for residents.

Boynton Beach City Commission recognizes the Links at Boynton Beach PGA Hope Program

By Stacy Carchman On November 4, the city commission made a proclamation for the Links at Boynton Beach PGA Hope Program. They highlighted the program’s impact on veterans and the community. The program teaches golf to veterans and provides them a sense of camaraderie and reintegration into daily life. The City of Boynton Beach supports the program, and the program helps change lives.

One veteran who participates in the program said that it truly supports and creates a sense of camaraderie. He believes it helps transitioning from active duty to the reserves. It is a flagship military initiative that introduces golf to veterans and active-duty ser-

vice members as a means of enhancing their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The golf instruction is free and adaptive and is conducted by PGA certified professionals creating a therapeutic outlet that fosters confidence and community among participants of all backgrounds and abilities. The program has become a model of excellence and growth in the region. It has extended from just 13 original members to over 150 participants.

The program demonstrates the power of sport, mentorship and fellowship in the successful reintegration of veterans into civilian life. The city will continue to support the program.

The Boynton Inn to be demolished to make room for redevelopment in Boynton Beach

By Stacy Carchman You may be familiar with The Boynton Inn, a hotel that has stood through the years at the corner of I-95 and Boynton Beach Blvd. in Boynton Beach. Now, the City of Boynton Beach has bought the land that the hotel has occupied for $8 1 million. On October 1, 2025, the Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (BBCRA) acquired the 2.11-acre property that is located at 480 W. Boynton Beach Blvd. It is situated west of Seacrest Blvd. and will be the site of future redevelopment. The BBCRA has been awarded a $75,000 grant through the Palm Beach County Sol-

id Waste Authority to help offset demolition costs.

The CRA Plan calls for mixed-use and low-density residential developments with a pedestrian-friendly corridor. This will lead to a more vibrant and beautiful Boynton Beach.

Many people who live on fixed incomes have been living at the hotel and some fear homelessness now that the hotel will be demolished. It has become a breeding ground for crime and an eyesore in recent years. The CRA is expected to hold community meetings to discuss the future use and redevelopment.

AACY partners with middle and high schoolers in 44 schools and estimates at least 10,00 students are caregivers in Palm Beach County alone, according to Siskowski. “You are not alone,” she said, adding their 98% graduation rate for the students who receive AACY services “throughout the calendar year.”

“Being a young caregiver can be hard. We learn patience,” said AACY Ambassador Hantz Lafaille, a seventh-grader at South Tech Academy.

“At AACY’s Camp Treasure I meet other kids who understand what I’m going through,” he said to applause.

“Those children need that hands up, and those families need that support system,” said State Rep. Debra Tendrich. “We’re here today to support that critical mission.”

“It’s the gift you give yourself,” for a life of service, said honoree Cindy Krebsbach. Ceasor was called away at the last minute and her long list of nonprofit work was cited, “for creating a culture of kindness.” “That’s what we’re here for,” she said via video.

AACY board chair Debralyn Belletieri and vice chair Jeff Gordon were involved in the program, and Alex Price did the Call to the Heart and emceed.

His foursome won low net at both organization’s first joint golf outing. He even got to take a trophy home.

“We wanted to do something special for Chuck,” Rotary Club of Boca Raton Sunrise International Service chair Kris Sudan said to present Stout with a Paul Harris Fellow at the 38th golf tournament Monday at Boca Grove Country Club.

Sting delivers a soulful set at Hard Rock Live Hollywood, FL, with his 3.0 world tour

With the intention to evolve rather than replicate, Sting’s current performance is focused on a minimalist setup. With longtime guitarist Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas by his side, the show delivers a vast catalogue of spanning songs from The Police to a wide range of solo work, illustrating a condensed but deep dive through his career.

Sting continues to attract generations of fans with honesty, warmth and charisma while delivering an energetic musical experience. He frequently pauses between songs to give the audience a little insight into how some of his songs came about. While introducing the song “Fields of Gold”, he mentions… ”I want to sing a song about my house, I have a little house in the English countryside, It’s more like a Castle really, but it’s near Stonehenge”. He continues by saying, ” if you are ever in Stonehenge, knock on

my door and I will make you a cup of tea” . His customary interaction with the audience brings a feeling of intimacy and familiarity. A treat for loyal fans.

At age 74, Sting continues to amaze audiences with his impeccable and timeless voice and solid physical shape, while

conveying stage presence and disposition.

The 3.0 tour highlights arrangements of often reharmonized songs, with extended versions that feature a more jazz-inflected tone rather than relying on the large-scale performance

With a more mature and sophisticated approach, it feels as if the songs sound more built and less reliant on backing arrangements while remaining polished and dynamic. His bass playing remains prevalent throughout his performance.

As I mentioned in previous show reviews, “no one quite sounds like Sting” and no one likely will.
