Florida Atlantic Beach Volleyball honored with AVCA Team Academic Award
Florida Atlantic Beach Volleyball was honored on Thursday with the 2023 USMC-AVCA Team Academic Award for the team’s academic excellence during the 2022-23 academic year.
“Our team deserves to be recognized for this award,” expressed head coach Steve Grotowski. “They are a bright and hardworking group of young women! I can’t thank them enough for representing our team and Florida Atlantic at such a high level!”

For the third year in a row, the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team will open the season in FAU Stadium. On August 17, the Owls will face Arkansas Little Rock to not only begin their 2023 season, but the official competition for all of Florida Atlantic Athletics in the 2023-24 year. The match will begin at 7 p.m.

The Owls are coming off an 11-83 2022 season in which they advanced to the Conference USA Championship Game. Florida Atlantic has qualified for the postseason in each of its last eight years, and its 11 wins last season were the most since 2019.
“The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today.” said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. “Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored.”
During the 2023 season, the Sandy Owls captured their second-ever conference title and first C-USA championship, in addition to earning the program’s second-ever NCAA postseason appearance at the 2023 NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship.
