The story of The Little Mermaid originated from a fairy tale written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen in 1837. The tale follows the story of a mermaid who falls in love with a human prince and makes a deal with a sea witch to have legs instead of a tail in order to be with him.
While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life -- and her father’s crown -- in jeopardy.
