MAYOR Eric Garcetti said Los Angeles will definitely move forward and go along with California’s re-opening plan but stressed that the city would go along at a slower pace. During a regular briefing on Wednesday, Garcetti said Angelenos have learned how to cope and live with the deadly coronavirus but added that the city’s constituents should not “lose sight of our personal responsibility to not spread COVID-19 further as the state allows these openings.” The LA mayor explained that it would be counter-productive to “hold back one city” as “people can just go next door” to work out or dine out.

In the related development, the Los Angeles County has issued an order that will allow day camps and campgrounds to resume operations as the region proceeds into Stage 3 of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s plan. A modified Health Officer Order and directives for the reopening of additional businesses was issued on Thursday (June 11) with an effective date of June 12. or the first time in about six years, no Philippine Independence Day parade seen at the historic Filipinotown in downtown Los Angeles due to restrictions imposed on the public to fight back against the coronavirus pandemic. But undaunted, Filipino Americans dressed up the Filipino Cultural Center (FCC) at Temple Street with banners and Philippine flags to celebrate the 122nd anniversary of Philippine Independence. Bernie Targa-Ganon, director of the Filipino American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) and manager of the FCC, said that a limited (and with social distancing protocol) get-together has been scheduled on Friday night (June 12) at the FCC to honor the historic event. “This is an important event (Independence Day) for us Filipinos and we will always try our best to celebrate it,” she said.
