MAYOR Eric Garcetti announced today that Los Angeles has received a three-year, $10 million grant from the California Department of Transportation to extend New Roads to Second Chances — a program that gives formerly incarcerated Angelenos training, support, and jobs maintaining and cleaning our roads. “Los Angeles is a place where everybody belongs — and we’ll keep working to create opportunities for anyone ready to give back to our communities,” said Mayor Garcetti. “No one needs a second chance more urgent$10M JOBS

Rodel Lumanog, president of the United Batanguenos of Southern California (UBSCI), told Weekend Balita/US Asian Post that their organization has initially asked its members to donate money to send to kababayans living in the most affected town of the province, particularly the towns of Talisay, Agoncillo and Lemery. Parts of the tourism city in the province of Cative, Tagaytay, is also heavily affected by the ash fall. “We have been talking to our friends and relatives in the province of Batangas and we have assured them that we will do our best to help them,” Lumanog said. Lumanog added that UBSCI is also working to put up a fundraiser together with other Filipino American organizations in and around Los Angeles in the upcoming days. FIL-AMS

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. tribute in Carson City THE City of Carson will be presenting its Annual Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an evening celebration in honor of the late civic leader.
