SIMBANG GABI KICKS OFF IN LOS ANGELES CATHEDRAL By ABNER GALINO
BRUNSWICK Mayor Ron Falconi recently visited fellow Filipino Americans in Southern California to drumbeat for his intention to run for the Ohio Senate District 22 seat being vacated by term-limited state Senator Larry Obhof. The Brunswick mayor poses with respected Los Angeles business and civic leaders, couple Van Dichoso and Dr. Marilou Estandarte Dischoso, shortly after a meeting with supporters in Cerritos. Falconi, who was a councilman before he became mayor, is a veteran in the Republican Party and has served in the party’s Asian Pacific American advisory committee during President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign. OVER a thousand Catholic devotees flocked to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles last Sunday (December 15) to participate in the start of the traditional “Simbang Gabi” and as well as to watch the annual “Parol” parade.
Catholic devotees march through the aisles of the Cathedral of the Holy Angels in downtown Los Angeles to represent their parishes and as well as to show off their homemade “parols” on Sunday (December 15) to kick off the start of the traditional 12-novena of masses known as “Simbang Gabi.” Photos by ABNER GALINO
Men, women and children, mostly dressed in Filipino traditional attire, represented their respective parishes and organizations by carrying homemade parols, banners and posters. An all-Filipino choir, organized from members of choral groups of the various Catholic parishes in Los Angeles, provided the musical backdrop to the Mass that followed the parade. SIMBANG GABI
