LOS ANGELES Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles County Department of Public He a lt h d i r e c t or B a r b a r a Fe r r e r jointly encouraged residents to wear face coverings when they go out of their homes as an additional protection against the COVID-19 virus. “I know this looks surreal,” Garcetti said, adding that “we’re going to have to get used to seeing each other like this … This will be the look.”

US Navy Capt. John Rotruck, the commander of “Mercy,” has said 15 patients have already been treated in the hospital ship since its arrival on Friday (March 27) at the Port of Los Angeles. The navy officer said 10 patients were still aboard while five of them were already discharged. Their cases ranged from accident injuries and heart and lung problems. No surgeries had been performed. The US Navy hospital ship “Mercy” was warmly welcomed at the Port of Los Angeles by California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and other local officials on Friday (March 27).
