The first time that Johnny Bantilan’s name was ever mentioned in a news story was when Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao was verbally assaulted by a Caucasian man in his favorite Japanese restaurant in Hollywood in April 2016.
The unidentified man rushed at Pacquiao and called him a “homophobe” as the boxer stood by the door of his car at the parking area behind the Kabuki restaurant along Vine Street near Sunset Boulevard. Bantilan managed to strike a blow to the attacker before he scampered away. Pacquiao prevented his people from pursuing the suspect. BOXER

Venus Macias Marin, Mutya Pilipinas-California vice president, said the beauty pageant’s president, Cory Quirino, was so elated during the presentation. “She was very impressed with the girls
and also with the California team. She thought it was a nice production,” Marin added. The Mutya Pilipinas hopefuls participated in the talent competition, swim-
