Welcome to our March edition of the Building Buzz!
March is an exciting month as many people have spring on their minds and are gearing up for their 2026 projects. Hopefully the favorable weather helps everyone get an early start on those projects!
The 49th Annual Home show will be kicking off this month at the Bismarck Event Center on March 20th – 21st. This year we have a sold out show, so this is one show you are not going to want to miss out on. For more information visit bismanhomeshow.com. We hope to see you all there.

Looking forward to our future events, the Spring Mixer date has been moved. It will now be held April 23rd instead of April 16th at the Blarney Stone from 5-8pm. A reminder as well that our Spring Parade of Homes this year will be held May 14-17th. Contract will be sent out soon. We encourage any builder to register a home to showcase your work as this is our time to shine.
With interest rate hitting their lowest number in years, this should spring us into what could be a great 2026 building season. March is the month we start to see permit numbers pick up as builders are eager to take advantage of our short building window.

We just returned from the 2026 International Builders’ Show and this was the final show in Orlando for the foreseeable future. The annual Area 10 (ND, SD, WI, MN, IA) reception was at the Hyatt Regency where all members and student chapters were invited. Other events included the BUILD-PAC parties, Opening Ceremonies featuring Emmitt Smith, and the Brothers Osborne Closing Concert. Teams from NDSU and NDSCS competed in the NAHB Student Chapter competitions and NDSCS took first-place in the Associates program category! Mark your calendar for IBS 2027 (February 2-4) where it will be back in Las Vegas.

On February 9th, the US House of Representatives approved the Housing for the 21st Century Act, a major bipartisan housing package that takes much-needed steps toward addressing our nation’s critical lack of housing. The legislation contains key provisions related to land-use and zoning, regulatory reforms and financing tools. It is the House response to the ROAD to Housing Act, separate legislation passed by the Senate last fall that includes favorable provisions aimed at eliminating regulatory barriers and promoting pro-growth housing policies. NAHB will continue to work with Republican and Democratic lawmakers in both chambers of Congress to pass a bicameral, bipartisan major housing package that reduces regulatory barriers and removes obstacles to help builders build more attainable, affordable housing.

Our spring meetings and social will be held at the end of the month! The NDAB Spring Board Meeting will take place in Bismarck on March 31, and the BUILD-PAC Social will be that evening at X-Golf. Head to our website www.ndbuild.com/events to sign-up for the social. All proceeds will benefit BUILD-PAC, NAHB’s bipartisan political arm, which helps elect pro-housing, pro-business candidates to federal office.
March is Women’s History month, which incorporates National Women in Construction Week early in the month (March 1-7). North Dakota currently has two Professional Women in Building Councils which includes the Bismarck-Mandan Professional Women in Building Council (est in 2020) and the Building Industry Association of the Red River Valley Professional Women in Building Council (est in 2024). Both councils represent women who are actively involved in all aspects of the building industry as business owners, marketing experts, interior designers, realtors, banking professionals, etc.
