President’s Message Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable holiday season. For those of you I have not yet had the opportunity to meet, my name is Joe Vetter with Joe Vetter Construction, and I look forward to serve as your 2026 BMHBA President. First, I want to thank Andrew Meldahl for his service as BMHBA President over the past two years. Andrew’s leadership, commitment, and willingness to step up and be President for the 2nd year was very much appreciated. Thank you, Andrew! I want to thank everyone who attended our Fall Mixer and Board Elections. We had a great turnout, and our local association elected Missy Moritz of Bianco Realty, Jay Wickline of Artisan Homes, and reelected Shane Gaffaney of SRS Building Products to our local Board of Directors. I would also like to thank both Joe Hillerson and Mckenzie Lawler for serving on our board over the years as 2025 marked their final year as board members.

JOE VETTER 2026 BMHBA PRESIDENT

As we look ahead to 2026, I am looking forward to the opportunities before us. This year as always, we have some great events planned, including the Annual Banquet at the Radisson coming up on January 22nd, where we will be swearing in the new Board of Directors for 2026. Our guest speaker for the evening will be Jim Tobin, NAHB President and CEO. Following that, we will have our Annual Home Show at the Bismarck Event Center March 20-21st. These events give us the chance to collaborate and continue connecting with our community. Looking forward, I invite each of you to stay engaged, get involved, and share your ideas. This organization thrives because of the people who care about its mission and one another. I am proud to serve alongside you and look forward to everything we will accomplish together in the year 2026! Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your 2026 President. My name is Nate Applegren, and I am the President of Applegren Construction. I am a third-generation builder and purchased the company from my father, Ralph Applegren, in 2017. Applegren Construction has proudly served our community for 60 years, specializing in custom home building, concrete work, and home remodeling.

My wife, Michelle, and I have been married for 26 years, and we are blessed with three children: Reagan, Trevin, and Mason. I have been a longtime member of the Forks Builders Association (FORX) and have had the privilege of serving on both the FORX and NDAB Boards of Directors. This will be my second term as NDAB President, having previously served in 2020. I have also served as FORX President in 2008 and 2019, was honored as the 2007 FORX Builder of the Year and have represented FORX as a National Delegate to the National Association of Home Builders. I am truly excited to serve as the 2026 President of the North Dakota Association of Builders. Please feel free to reach out to me or Brittney in the state office if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns. Wishing you all a successful and rewarding 2026. Thank you, Nate Applegren 2026 NDAB President

Shane Gaffney Territory Manager SRS Building Products

What’s something you’re excited to be part of or help with this year. I am very excited to be part of the 49th Annual BMHBA Home Show. What do you enjoy most about being involved with the BMHBA? The friends and connections that we make within the association. We all want the building and remodeling business in Bismarck to grow and be successful. One thing people might be surprised to learn about you or your job? When I Started with Allied Building Products in 2004. They gave me the opportunity to work in almost all aspects of our industry. I started in the warehouse, had multiple different management positions and am now in sales. If you weren’t in the building industry, what do you think you’d be doing instead? Working in the oil and gas industry. When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time? At the Lake. Fishing with family and friends, eating amazing food and living life to the fullest. Favorite local restaurant or coffee spot? Pirogue Grille

What’s something you’re excited to be part of or help with this year? I’m excited to help support events and initiatives that bring members together, build relationships, and highlight the value of our local home building community. I’m looking forward to contributing where I can, learning and growing both personally and professionally. What do you enjoy most about being involved with the BMHBA? I enjoy the opportunities to connect with other professionals and to be involved in efforts that positively impact our community and housing market- in both the BMHBA and PWB! One thing people might be surprised to learn about you or your job? One thing people might be surprised to learn about me is that I went on a 10 day mission trip to help build homes in Guatemala. Statistically, less than 1% of Americans actually step foot on Guatemalan soil. If you weren’t in the building industry, what do you think you’d be doing instead? If I weren’t in the real estate & building industry, I think I’d be doing some form of service work—focused on serving the less fortunate and finding ways to give back and make a positive impact within our community. When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time? When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends or volunteering at the Heaven’s Helpers Soup Café. I also love being outdoors—whether that’s golfing, spending time at the river, pool, lakes, or camping. At home, I enjoy tackling DIY home improvement projects. Favorite local restaurant or coffee spot? Mighty Missouri & Meg-A-Latte

Missy Mortiz Realtor Bianco Realty

What’s something you’re excited to be part of or help with this year. Were always looking forward to any sponsorship opportunities, we love to help out when we can. What do you enjoy most about being involved with the BMHBA? I most enjoy the camaraderie that the events offer. I’ve built a very strong network of industry friends/ colleagues over the years, and I enjoy being a part of that. What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you or your job? I am a finish carpenter by trade. If you weren’t in the building industry, what do you think you’d be doing instead? Tough question… probably a realtor. When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time? I enjoy vacationing with family and golfing with friends. Favorite local restaurant or coffee spot? 40s Steak and Seafood is Janessa and I’s favorite. Jay Wickline Owner/Operations Artisan Homes
