Happy April Everyone! I’d wish you all a Happy Spring, however, I’m not sure it’s here yet! We've had record amounts of snow and cold this year, which has equated to a very long and hard Winter. Obviously, we’ll have a late start to the building season this year. I’m hoping by the time you are reading this that the Spring thaw is well underway. Even though there has been recent turmoil in the Banking System, and the Inflation Battle, which of course the markets are constantly reacting too…there are still many indicators and reasons to maintain a positive and optimistic outlook. We’ve got low inventory levels, interest Rates are trending slightly downward, lumber costs have decreased, while most other building materials and labor have remained steady. Locally, we are still seeing people move into our area from all over the Country!

We just had the 46th Annual Home Show, which had great participation, and was lots of fun! The weather didn’t exactly cooperate, but I think everyone made the most of it.

The 31st Annual Spring Parade of Homes is April 27th – April 30th. All of us have been working hard to make this a great event, and the last I heard we have 39 Homes registered! I’m very pleased and excited for such great participation and look forward to a great event!

Our Annual Spring Mixer is coming up Tuesday, May 9th. Be sure to mark it on your calendar as it is a great opportunity to network and connect with fellow members as we are just kicking off the Spring Building Season!

We are a full-service interior design company from start to finish. We offer design consultations inside our showroom, to free delivery of products and in-house installation services. We offer a variety of products from carpet, HW, laminate, LVT, tile flooring, showers, back splash’s, kitchen, bathroom cabinets, window coverings along with several lines of garage cabinets.

Listen to the customer… Listen and learn what they want. Stay on top of the latest trends and products, as they change and evolve at pace that sometimes it’s hard to keep up with.

I start each day by communicating with the guys out on the job sites, our contractors, and customers that we are providing services for. After that, I typically am out measuring and doing estimates for new projects.

If I wasn’t a project manager, I’d probably be a fulltime designer/draft person. This is my favorite part of my job!

I would love to see a Imperial Flooring continue to grow and expand into a couple more markets. It’s been fun to see many of our wonderful employees grow and flourish in the positions that they are at.

I feel what has inspired us to enter this industry is to be able to take an old out of date or unfinished space and turn it into something that looks like it came out of a magazine!

What separates us is our ability to do all our own services in house with our own people from the design drawings, CAD 2020 design work, color coordination to the installation. We handle all of it and do it all with our own team!

Being able to work with people and our customers I have met in this industry over the last 20 years. I’ve made a lot of lifelong friends.

Enjoy our beautiful river and travel when I get the chance.

I am most excited for NO snow. It has been a been a rough winter for our entire construction industry.

Spring is coming! I repeat again….SPRING IS COMING! It certainly doesn’t seem like it right now, as I am writing this on March 10, in the middle of a blizzard warning. But I know that the snow will not last and very soon we will be seeing green grass and will again be hearing robins in the morning.

As a forester and as someone who loves the outdoors, spring is something I am genuinely excited for every year, as are all North Dakotans after five or six months of freezing wind and blowing snow. I suppose spring is exciting for different reasons, depending on who you are talking to. If you are talking to kids, it is probably because they see the light at the end of the school year. If you are talking to the parents of these kids, spring means you do not have to dry out winter gloves, boots and snow pants before the kids leave for school the next morning.

One of the reasons I look forward to spring is because it is tree planting season. There is one day on the calendar that kicks off tree planting and that is Arbor Day. Many of you already know the origins of Arbor Day. However, in case you forgot, here is the Cliff’s Notes version: Arbor Day was originated by J. Sterling Morton in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 10, 1872. Morton led the effort to promote Nebraskans to plant trees around the state that would serve as windbreaks, which would protect crops from erosion and overexposure and would also provide fuel and building materials. As a result, it is estimated that one million trees were planted in the state of Nebraska.

National Arbor Day is April 28, however, each state has its own Arbor Day due to its individual climate. North Dakota’s Arbor Day is celebrated on the first Friday in May. The City of Bismarck’s Forestry Division celebrates Arbor Week, which is the week leading up to Arbor Day. The goal of this week is to celebrate what trees have done for our community and educate our youth about the benefits of trees and tree planting. Typically, Forestry staff gives presentations to schools and groups about these benefits and demonstrates how to properly plant trees. The week

culminates with our Arbor Day Celebration.

This year’s celebration will be held at Sertoma Park, where we honor an individual who has contributed to the enhancement and growth of our urban forest. This year’s honoree will be Randy Bina, former Executive Director of the Bismarck Parks and Recreation District. The Forestry Division will also partner with an elementary school for the celebration and the students from the school will give a presentation about the benefits of trees. The students are so creative, work really hard, and give wonderful presentations.

So, mark your calendars for May 5, Arbor Day! If you are free, join us at Sertoma Park as we celebrate trees and tree planting. Children will receive goodies and a tree sapling from the Forestry Division and Forrest Von Flickentale, the Forestry mascot, will also be present.

Finally, if you have questions about tree planting, feel free to contact the Forestry Division (701-355-1700). We would be happy to help you with any technical questions you have about tree planting. If you would like to plant a tree on the boulevard, then check out the Partners in Planting Program information on the Forestry Division’s webpage (https:// bismarcknd.gov/101/Forestryhttps://bismarcknd.gov/101/ Forestry). Remember, the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is today.

The Federal Reserve’s monetary policy committee raised the federal funds target rate by 25 basis points but indicated that it was moving to a more data dependent mode as markets digest incoming risks for banks.

The Fed is balancing two economic risks: ongoing elevated inflation and emerging risks to the banking system. The health of the regional and community bank system is critical to the availability of builder and developer financing for for-sale, for-rent and affordable housing construction. We expect these conditions to tighten and will continue to monitor lending conditions via NAHB industry surveys.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell noted that term uncertainty is high because of these risks, as well

The Fed noted: “The Committee will closely monitor incoming information and assess the implications for monetary policy. The Committee anticipates that some additional policy firming may be appropriate in order to attain a stance of monetary policy that is sufficiently restrictive to return inflation to 2 percent over time.”

Acknowledging the issues affecting a few regional banks, the Committee wrote: “The U.S. banking system is sound and resilient. Recent developments are likely to result in tighter credit conditions for households and businesses and to weigh on economic activity, hiring, and inflation. The extent of these effects is uncertain. The Committee remains highly attentive to inflation risks.”

These challenges will result in tighter credit conditions, which will slow the economy and reduce inflation.
