ABOUT ME I grew up strongly influenced by my mother who was a landscape designer and owned her own business and my grandmother who was passionate about fashion and made many of her own clothes and some of mine. Being around two creative women who shared their interest in design with me made me appreciate design and the role it plays in our day to day life.

During high school I spent summers working at a womens clothing and homeware store, where I developed customer service skills while also being able to merchandise and assist customers with styling choices. My experience here as well as the time spent with my mother and grandmother helped me to affirm my interest in interior design as a career. From here I applied to Swinburne to study Interior Architecture.

Throughout the Interior Architecture course I have developed and added to my design skills while also establishing my strengths in design and what areas I would most like to work in post studying. I have identified these areas as Residential, Retail and Hospitality. I also believe that my other work experience including retail and reception work provided me with important skills that will help me in the design industry, some of which are teamwork, building client relationships and time management.

I look forward to developing as a designer in the industry and being apart of a team, allowing me to learn and collaborate with other designers to create unique and timeless interiors.

1.0 FORMA

1.1 THE SITE FLINDERS LANE

FORMA was designed as a response to my love for fashion and concern for the environment. Wanting to understand the impacts of the fast fashion industry and why we have become addicted to this damaging trend. Through my research I have been able to establish the key drivers of fast fashion consumption as well as gauging consumers desire to increase skills and awareness and the key factors they deem necessary to do so. The research showed that the key drivers of fast fashion were accessibility, affordability, trends, knowledge/awareness and apparel maintenance skills. To accommodate these factors, I aim to design a space that creates social change to address the problem of fast fashion by providing accessibility to a range of sustainable designers as well as necessary skills and education through an innovative and tailored fashion experience in the heart of melbourne.

RUSSELL STREET

RUSSELL STREET The site I have chosen is a 4-story heritage building in the cbd on the corner of flinders lane and russell street. As my focus for this project is to create social awareness around sustainable fashion which includes reworking and reimagining old clothing, I wanted to use a heritage building so that I could also apply these ideas into my design by reimagining and reinhabiting an old building.

1.2 ABOUT FORMA The design is aimed at individuals who have an interest in fashion and/ or the environment and want to enhance their knowledgeand skills in a unique and interactive experience. FORMA consists of 9 levels ranging from public to private spaces as guests travel up the building. The heritage building is home to the restaurant and fashion spaces, including retail, studios and a gallery. These spaces have been designed to be flexible to allow for layout changes over time, especially within the retail and gallery spaces where different designers will be using the spaces and may want to tailor them to be more fitting with their designs. Above the heritage building is a new extension I have designed to provide accommodation for guests traveling from around Australia and visiting designers. There is also a rooftop garden which not only provides guests private outdoor space but also has a greenhouse which will be used by the restaurant for fresh produce.

1.3 CONCEPT BASEMENT FLOOR

THIRD + FOURTH FLOOR

Banquette seating to the West wall will be a design feature with natural light coming through from high level windows while also allowing maximum seating space. Kitchen will be along the East hidden by a statement bar with seating.

More affordable accommodation with shared facilities such as bedrooms, toilets and showers.

Courtyard to provide natural light. Soft, neutral tones to make the space calm and create a backdrop for any fashion pieces to be displayed.

GROUND FLOOR

FIFTH + SIXTH FLOOR

Using clothing racks as sculptural elements to create a journey through the space. Hotel Lobby and retail space combined so that guests Immediately feel immersed in the fashion culture.

Four rooms with a queen bed and ensuite which is good for couples or friends who want a more private stay. Personal robe and desk space. Neutral tones to make the space feel light and calm and create a backdrop for any fashion pieces to be displayed. One larger room to offer long stay accommodation for teachers or designers working at forma.

FIRST FLOOR Space divided up to included two tech labs, a workshop space and a collaborative working space.

Large cutting tables with under-bench storage and a fabric station in the workshop.

SECOND FLOOR Flexible layout to allow for different events.

Collapsible frames to display designs when being used as a gallery and help to create a path through the space. Storage within deep bench seats.

SEVENTH FLOOR Greenhouse to the East to help hide the building next door and provide fresh produce to the restaurant. Garden beds and bench seats to the North and West providing views over the city.

2.0 ABODE

Featured in my folio is an apartment type fitout plan and kitchen and living joinery design. I wanted to design a larger apartment type suitable for families or grandparents who often have their grandchildren over. The finishes and joinery have been designed to feel light and timeless. The hero is the stainless steel and the beauty of its simplicity enables the fine profiling and joinery detailing to be appreciated while being complimented by the polished concrete flooring and lightly textured soft grey walls.

Using a light oak veneer on the secondary joinery pieces brings warmth and texture into the space and helps to relate the inerior to the native flora throughout Blackburn and Laburnum.

LABURNUM

The brief for this assignment was to redesign an underutilised site to make it a safer and more inviting space to visit. I chose the small strip of shops in Laburnum where many of the shop fronts were vacant at the time. I used this project as an opportunity to explore residential design which is an area of interior design I am really interested in. I focused on designing a small multi-residential building to appeal to the older generations in the area wanting to downsize as well as families who can not afford to buy a house.

2.2 GENERAL APARTMENT FLOOR PLAN By designing two smaller passages off the main hallway I was able to not only add plenty of storage to the apartment but define the different spaces. This allowed the master suite to be seperate from the rest of the bedrooms creating an oasis for the owners. When entering the apartment into the main hallway residents are invited into an open, lightfilled kitchen and living space with views to both the north and West. The West hallway provides descrete access to the master suite as well as hiding the laundry and study and the East hallway allows for all secondary bedrooms and bathrooms to be tucked away together, keeping the entertaining areas clean and open.

The brief for the museum of the handmade was to create a gallery space that included a cafe and seating area along with a facade system to provide shade all year round. I chose a site on the Mornington Peninsula which has views over the bay, which I wanted to take advantage of by making it a 2-story building. As parking can be limited on the Peninsula I included parking spaces on the ground floor to make the museum more easily accessible. As the museum is by the beach I focused on using natural materials such as oak and soft grey stone that reflected the landscape and the architecture in the surrounding area.

3.2 ABOUT MUSEUM OF THE HANDMADE

The entrance is located on the ground floor, along with an office for staff and a seating area for visitors to wait or rest in. Visitors can either take the lift or go up the spiral staircase to get to the first floor where they will find the gallery space along with the cafe. I chose to put the cafe to the North of the building as this the best area for sea views and allowed me to maximise the natural light that comes in through the North without it impacting the artwork. The gallery space has been designed to the South of the building where the natural light can be controlled. Using moveable walls and pillars enable artists and curators to redesign the space dependent on the exhibition.
