eddings are always surrounded by anticipation for the bride, the groom, and family and friends as all make arrangements to share in the big day. Luckily, over this past summer, I was able to celebrate two of my sorority sisters’ wedding days in Memphis, Tennessee. In late June, my sister and I ventured north to help the last of my roommates get married in bluesy downtown Memphis. Alyce Meador was my roommate for the longest, and we shared many memories on the backroads of the Mississippi Delta. Alyce and Tucker Marshburn, her swim teammate from alwayssunny California, wanted their guests to experience the best of Memphis with a barbeque rehearsal dinner at Central BBQ and a swanky reception at the Balinese Ballroom near the river. Her GD\ ZDV EHDXWLIXO DQG ÀOOHG ZLWK ORWV RI ORYH IURP IDPLO\ DQG friends from all over the country. In late August, I once again made my way to Memphis to celebrate another wedding, that of my Tri Delta little sis, Haven Roach, and Christoper Stevens. A Cleveland-native, Haven and I grew very close while I lived in the Delta where we bonded over many a bottle of wine. Her ceremony and reception were both held at majestic Heartwood Hall, deep in the Tennessee woods. With an unusually cool afternoon, Haven’s big day was something straight out of Martha Stewart’s design, a beautiful event shared by all. Now that I live back in Natchez, I love when a friend from college gets married. Those Memphis wedding weekends make for entertaining reunions, years after graduation, along and beyond the Mississippi.

RU VHYHUDO \HDUV DERXW Ă€IWHHQ WR EH H[DFW D JURXS RI P\ friends and I have been busy planning our children’s weddings, which of course meant party time. We became professionals at putting together cocktail buffets, suppers, and brunches to celebrate the newest couple. My friends helped with the wedding of my oldest daughter, and I shared that it was “with a little help from my friends!â€? We had close to 800 people in attendance, so I should have said, “With a lot of help from my friends.â€? We learned to be super organized, and we had a sheet with all the responsibilities for the party and what job each person had. In fact, we did it so much

that we became a well-oiled machine with each person knowing exactly what she was going to do when she heard it was party time yet again. The following recipes come from those days; and unfortunately, I have no idea where the recipes came from. I have scraps of paper with recipes on them but no source. ianna Kathleen Arnold wed Jon Thomas Martin at five thirty in the evening on September 26, 2015, in an intimate, traditional ceremony officiated by Dr. Kevin Cooper at Grace Crossing Baptist Church of Canton, Mississippi. The bride’s aunt, Penny Arnold Parmer, performed a bluesy version of “At Last” as the bridal party ascended an aisle lined with baby’s breath atop custom stands made from antique wooden spindles. Accompanying the soloist was the bride’s great aunt, Millicent Ledbetter, on the piano. Marinelle Broadway played the harp while the new bride and groom lit a candle as a symbol of their unity. The bride is the daughter of Kim and Trey Arnold; and the groom is the son of Renee and CJ Linebarger, all of Madison, Mississippi. Attending the bride and groom during the ceremony were family members and close friends, as well as a precious ring bearer and flower girl, Will and Anna Grace Eversole, both of whom Dianna has babysat since they were born. The backdrop for the wedding party included lush green ferns and a wooden cross, made by the groom’s father, CJ, which was draped with a beautiful floral arrangement made by Jan Hogue. The bride carried an elegant bouquet of roses, hydrangeas, and dusty miller in shades of ivory, enfolded in the sleeve of her mother’s wedding gown and adorned with pictures of her grandfather Floyd Arnold, Jr., and the groom’s grandfather Tom Martin, both of whom watched from heaven. She carried a handkerchief of her great grandmother Lillian Idom; and wore a stunning Mikimoto pearl necklace, previously worn by her great grandmother Artie Arnold. Following the ceremony, a celebratory reception was held at the Jiggetts Home in Canton, Mississippi. Over three hundred relatives and friends enjoyed the festivities and music provided by DJ 51-50, who remarked that he had never seen a group of people have more fun dancing the night away than at the Martins’ reception. Both the bride’s and groom’s cakes were made by Gina Smith of Canton. Shortly after the bride and groom shared an affectionate first dance, the bride changed into a custom gown made from her mother’s wedding dress and redesigned by Adrienne Wilson of Madison, Mississippi,

nce upon a time there were two toddlers who played together daily and were best friends until a family move forced their friendship to end at the ages of five and six. These two went their separate ways for sixty years until fate stepped in and renewed their special friendship. That friendship grew quickly into love, and the two rediscovered their unique relationship that was born over six decades earlier.

In the lovely town of Natchez, Mississippi, on October 3, 2015, Ganeath Ritchie Brewer of McComb, Mississippi, and Sam Daniel of Beaumont, Texas, were united in marriage at the palatial Monmouth Historic Inn at sunset. Friends and family were there to celebrate this union as the bride and groom entered the patio area where Reverend Scott Green of Natchez performed the marriage ceremony. Reverend Gary Fuller of Omaha, Nebraska, a cousin of the bride, offered the wedding prayer as the couple stood before the arched doorway, accented with natural vines, greenery, and a moss basket filled with fresh roses, hydrangeas, and mixed garden flowers. Following the ceremony, guests entered the Garden Room for dinner where tables were decorated with tower vases, filled with bouquets of fresh flowers and candles. Judy Dillon, childhood friend of the couple, sang the Lord’s Prayer accompanied by Patsy Fortinberry. Larry Saulters of Katie, Texas, offered the blessing before the wedding dinner. Maureen Clark of McComb and Dr. Bill Whigham of Memphis, Tennessee, gave the wedding toasts followed by the cutting of the wedding cakes. The bride’s three-tier cake featured sugar-sculpted roses, a sparkling ribbon drape, and a vintage brooch, while the groom’s cake was a chocolate, Ole-Miss-Pharmacy-themed design, topped with a mortar and pestle, a gift to the groom from Delora Ozyazici, aunt of the bride. As guests enjoyed the food and beverages, the moving music “Mississippi, From Dixie With Love,” recorded by The Pride of the Southland Ole Miss Band, was played as the bride and groom escorted Colonel Reb into the dining room. Colonel Reb enjoyed dancing, visiting, and a photo shoot with the wedding guests. After his departure, Patsy Fortinberry sang “There’s A Place For Us”; a DVD pictorial presentation of the history

of the bride and groom was shown; and Debbie Stovall of Summit, Mississippi, who reintroduced the couple, told the remarkable story of a romance that blossomed after sixty years. An evening filled with an almost unbelievable love story, joy and laughter of family and friends, a celebration of two families becoming one, the magical city of Natchez, and Monmouth Historic Inn serving as a backdrop for this event created the true fair-tale wedding. To quote the groom, “The seed of love was planted in our hearts when we were young. Little did we know it would bloom so gloriously when we thought we would never love again.

The bride’s parents are Rose and Seth Allen of Brookhaven, Mississippi, and Edmond Jenkins of Utica, Mississippi; and the groom’s parents are Teena and Cliff Welborn of Florence, Mississippi. The wedding and reception took place in the Old Town Church in Brookhaven. The castlelike wedding venue with towers, stained glass, and arched windows, once served the area as a church. Built in 1906 and nestled in the quiet, historic downtown area of Brookhaven, the redbrick building has retained its original splendor. The bride wore a strapless Allure Couture slim-line gown with an empire-belted waist adorned with Swarovski crystals. The bodice was overlaid with embroidered lace and pearls, and exquisite beads covered the entire dress and train. The bottom was elegantly flared with an articulate train; and the heirloom, cathedral-length veil was made of sheer illusion with raindrop pearls. The bride carried a bouquet of pink roses,

Robin Patterson sang “When I Said I Do” as the bridesmaids and groomsmen entered the church. Then the organ rang out loudly as the bride was escorted down the aisle by Seth Allen. He and the bride’s mother gave the bride in marriage. Brother Garland Boyd performed the ceremony. After the exchange of rings and vows, the happy couple beamed playfully as they surprised the wedding party and guests with a rehearsed special handshake, followed by a series of fist, knee, and elbow “bumps” with several high fives that ended with the groom’s dipping his new bride for their kiss. As everyone continued to laugh and applaud, the new Mr. and Mrs. Welborn ran down the aisle and into the reception area where friends and family gathered immediately following the ceremony. Guests were treated to a vast array of delicious southern food catered by Country Meat Packers and prepared by none other than the groom and his groomsmen. Live music was provided by Tyler Bridge, Nick Bridge, and Ron Donegan as the celebration continued outside in the courtyard with its illuminated nine-foot water fountain and

thousands of lights. Along with dancing and mingling, guests also enjoyed playing a friendly game of corn hole on custom-made corn-hole boards built by the bride’s brother, Zach. The bride’s cake, made by Bessie Turner of Jayess, was a four-tier, classic white wedding cake consisting of white, hand-piped designs that surrounded the bride and groom’s initials. Completing the cake was an antique family heirloom cake topper. The groom’s cake, made by For Heaven’s Cakes,

was a red velvet cake with chocolate butter-cream frosting topped with a butcher’s block and knife, handmade out of fondant, to signify the groom’s love of cooking. The bride’s and bridesmaids’ hair and makeup was done by Leanne Duet of Brookhaven, and the videographer was Suzi Smith. Heidi Green Photography of Wesson, Mississippi, took all of the engagement, bridal, and wedding pictures. The wedding celebration began Friday night with a rehearsal dinner hosted by the groom’s parents at the cozy courtyard of Georgia Blues. With lights strung overhead, the wedding party enjoyed imparting words of wisdom on Jenga playing pieces, playing games, and mingling. Then the bride and groom spoke, handed out gifts to the wedding party, and embraced, knowing that the next day they would be ready to say their vows. Following their honeymoon in the Bahamas, Florida, and New Orleans, the couple happily resides in Florence, Mississippi.

The bride arrived in a 1949 Rolls Royce and exited the vehicle at the entrance to the aisle to “Luckiest Guy in the World,” a song selected by the groom as a

surprise to the bride and sung by a dear friend of the couple, Brandon Andrews. The bride wore an ensemble of ivory English netting and lace over gold bridal satin. The fitted lace gown had a sweetheart bodice with an overlay of illusion and lace appliques covering the neckline and sheer back. A floral design of hand-beaded Swarovski crystals and pearls on a satin ribbon highlighted the natural waist. Layers of English netting and scattered lace appliques formed the A-line skirt which ended in a chapel-length train. Her fingertip veil was ivory illusion. The pin atop her veil worn as her “something old” and “borrowed” was an antique brooch of her mother’s; and the bracelet worn as her “something blue” was an antique bracelet of her greatgreat-aunt Mary Dawson Cain. The bride carried a bouquet of magenta and soft pink David Austin roses, pale blue scabiosa, lavender spray rose, soft blue hydrangeas, blue and green succulents, and seeded eucalyptus and dusty miller, all bound in ivory satin ribbon. Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the courtyard and ballroom of Brandon Hall. Guests were greeted in the courtyard by a table decorated with a custom canvas, painted by

Catherine Ann Davis of Hi Y’all in Starkville, Mississippi, and gold apple baskets overflowing with jars of blueberry jelly, made by the bride and her mother as wedding favors. The YZ Ealey Band provided the evening’s musical entertainment. Guests enjoyed delectable fare by Heirloom Cuisine of Saint Francisville, Louisiana. The bride’s four-tiered French vanilla cake with blueberry filling was rustically iced with cream cheese frosting. The cake sat atop a large oak tree disc with fresh succulents and air plants delicately placed on the top and each of the ledges. The groom’s dessert was chocolate petit fours with chocolate ganache glaze adorned with fresh blueberries. Both desserts were the creations of Edna Welch of Natchez. The reception had an overall organic ambiance influenced by nature. The bride supplied some personal touches with gold-painted wine bottles and assorted sizes of wooden disks from various trees. The white linens added to the clean, crisp, and simple decor. The courtyard was canopied by a clear tent that helped bring nature inside, signifying the importance of the outdoors to the couple. Large woodland scenes were created as though you walked through the forest and scooped up a piece of the landscape. Logs with resurrection fern were laid across the center in beds of moss, and flowers appeared to be growing there as opposed to being arranged. It was a perfect pairing of nature, clean Southern style, and a taste of the bride’s personality. Rachel Dale of Brandon Hall was the wedding coordinator. B. Flint Photography of Oxford and Montoto Productions of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, captured the day. Great Southern Events of Pearl provided the tent for the reception, and Davaine Lighting of Jackson created the magical ambiance under the tent. John Grady Burns of JGB Flora in Atlanta, Georgia, transformed the already majestic location into the perfect backdrop with an impeccable combination of the bride’s and groom’s personalities. The bride and groom departed under a cascade of fresh pink and lavender rose petals, thrown by their guests, and rode off into the night in the 1949 Rolls Royce. On the eve of the wedding, Dr. and Mrs. Will Austin hosted a cocktail reception at their recently restored Victorian home on the Bluffs in Natchez. Following a honeymoon to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the couple resides in McComb where the bride is an attorney with Jones Law Group, P.A. in Liberty and the groom is an offshore production operator and owner of Hemphill Fence, LLC, in McComb.

In memory of her father, a handkerchief fashioned from one of his dress shirts and embroidered with his and her initials was tied around the bouquet. This was accented with a charm in memory of her father given to her by bridesmaid Mrs. Brandi Day. Mrs. Allyson Smith, sister of the bride, and Mrs. Allison Wallace, sister-in-law of the bride, both of Brookhaven, served as matrons of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Micah Allen, Mrs. Kayla Brown, Mrs. Brandi Day, and her niece Ms. Katherine Wallace, all of Brookhaven, and Mrs. Michelle Wigley of Batesville, Mississippi. They wore floor-length gowns of violet chiffon. The strapless gowns featured a sweetheart neckline and a fitted shirred bodice. Flower girls were Miss Zoey Simmons and Miss Madie Simmons, daughters of the groom. Mr. Conar Simmons, son of the groom, and Mr. Timothy Simmons served as best men. Groomsmen were Mr. Blake Wallace and Mr. Taylor Wallace, brothers of the bride; Mr. Ryan Day; and Mr. Tucker Wallace, nephew of the bride, all of Brookhaven, and Mr. Davin Reibock, brother of the groom, of Stephenville, Texas. Ring bearers were Mr. John Patrick Wallace and Mr. Piker Wallace, nephews of the bride, both of Brookhaven. Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held with dinner and dancing to the country and rock music of Ghost Town. A photo center for candid or posed shots was available to guests. During the bride and groom’s first dance, a beautiful, double rainbow miraculously appeared in the sky; and guests believed it symbolized the bride’s father’s blessing of the marriage. As the happily married couple departed in an orange 1968 Camaro that belonged to the groom’s beloved grandfather, guests waved purple and white glow sticks. Commemorating the special day, keepsake bookmarks, made by Mrs. Becky Corkern of pressed flowers from the bride’s father’s memorial service, along with souvenir cups, and koozies were given to the guests upon their departure. After a honeymoon to St. Lucia, the couple has made their home in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

Music for the ceremony was provided by organist Dr. Rhonda Furr, soloist Mrs. Leigh Shipman, and trumpeter Mr. Jody Ilgenfritz. Given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, the bride wore a couture gown by Rivini. The ivory, French Chantilly lace and tulle gown featured a sheer-lace blouse with a high-scalloped neck, cap sleeves, and gentle sweetheart neckline. The gown’s corset-seamed bodice was accented by a crystal-embellished belt; and its scalloped-lace join line gave way to a frothy tulle skirt, adorned with lace appliqués and falling into a dramatic chapel-length train. To complement her gown, the bride wore her mother’s cathedral-length veil edged in Alencon lace. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of ivory peonies, gardenias, white ranunculus, white lilacs, and white hydrangeas, wrapped with her paternal grandmother’s lace handkerchief. Serving the bride as maids of honor were Alexandra Nicole Gray and Whitney Elizabeth Rape of Houston, Texas. Bridesmaids were Kirby Olivia Ware Carlberg of Austin, Texas; and Catherine Baker Ellis, Evelyn May French, Lisa Ann Kollenberg, Emily Catherine Jeter Riggs, Brittany Sakowitz Kushner, and Marina Jewel Willis, all of Houston, Texas. The bridesmaids wore varying styles of slate-blue, matte-silk dresses by LulaKate and carried bouquets of peonies and camellias tied with slate-blue satin. Honor attendants were Aubrie Tabrizi Dolan and Jessica Ledger Womack of Houston, Texas. Serving as flower girls were Lilly Elizabeth Lucas and Lindsay Amelia Lucas, cousins of the bride, and Presley Mac Beassie, niece of the groom. Serving the groom as best man was Jeffrey Alan White of Brookhaven, Mississippi. Groomsmen were Samuel Chase Cannon of Charlotte, North Carolina; William James Hodges of Fort Worth, Texas; Jacob Ian Kastan of Washington, D.C.; Nikhil Mallavarapu of Bangalore, India; James Kenneth McGraw of Jackson, Mississippi; Dr. Beau Stephen Murphey of Brandon, Mississippi; Timothy Patrick O’Toole of Richmond, Virginia; and Dr. John Samuel Rushing of Jackson, Mississippi. Serving as ring bearer was the bride’s cousin, Richard Pryor Lucas II. Serving as ushers were Jeffrey Daniel Beitler of Houston, Texas; Dr. Cole Timmons Hodges of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Graham Boynton Purcell of St. Louis, Missouri; Christopher James Riklin of London, England; Alfred Leland Taylor of Nashville, Tennessee; and Alexander Lucas Weaver, brother of the bride, of Houston, Texas. Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at River Oaks Country Club, bringing the couple’s dream wedding of old Southern charm and hospitality to life for these two Ole Miss graduates. The ball and dining rooms were decorated to double as the interior of an old Southern mansion filled with lounge furniture and dramatic white floral arrangements of peonies, roses, hydrangea, and camellia in French urns atop pedestals with dark green foliage garlands. Over the dance floor, eight large gold lanterns were suspended from green garlands. With a nod to the groom’s native Mississippi and the couple’s Ole Miss ties, Southern and Comfort food stations were placed alongside traditional roast beef and seafood stations. The five-tier white

wedding cake with vanilla crème filling was stunning and delicious with cascading ivory peonies and greenery. The groom’s cake was a chocolate fondant Ole Miss golf-bag cake emphasizing his love for golf and his alma mater. Guests danced the night away with music by Memphis Train Revue. On the eve of the wedding, the groom’s parents hosted a New Orleans Jazz cocktail reception in the courtyard and a rehearsal dinner in the ballroom at Brennan’s of Houston and a reception for out-of-town guests at the Houston Post Oak Hilton. The bride and the bridal party were honored at a luncheon, hosted by the bride’s paternal grandmother, her two aunts, and a godmother, on Friday at River Oaks Country Club. On the day of the wedding, out-oftown guests were treated to a Mexican Fiesta Brunch, hosted by Houston friends, at the Bayou Club. Following a honeymoon to Paris and the south of France, the couple resides in Houston, Texas.
