Dedication from Mr. William Ramsey
A Legend, A Baron
Since coming here as a freshman in 1979, I have been a Blue Ridge School Baron. I was a four year boy graduating in 1983. The positive impact that this school had on me as a student was absolutely life changing in just about every way. The combination of the BRS mission, and its dedicated and caring teachers, coaches, and administrators, put into place as a result of the vision and outstanding leadership of Hatcher Williams, the new school’s 1st headmaster, proved to be a perfect fit for me and hundreds of other boys as well. I did very well in the classroom and in several sports. I was elected as a prefect my senior year, and was accepted to the college of my choice. I then worked at BRS as a summer school counselor and teacher during my college years, and that was when I decided to pursue a career as a teacher. I became a full time employee in 1990. During my 25 year career it has been my honor to have served the school in numerous positions including: history teacher, coach, dorm parent, summer school director, dean of students, assistant athletic director, summer program coordinator and athletic director. I can’t say that I have enjoyed every minute of my work here at BRS, or that my jobs have not come without many challenges; however, I can unequivocally say that the rewards that I have experienced through my work with so many young men over all these years have more than made up for the long hours, late nights, and tough situations. Teaching young men at Blue Ridge School has been my life’s work, and I have no regrets. My wife and I came here as a young married couple, and we soon had two wonderful children, Emily and Cal, who were born and raised here on campus. No matter what the future holds for the four of us, my family will always consider Blue Ridge School to have been our original home. I appreciate all that the school has done for me. I am especially thankful for the many special people, friends and mentors that I have met and worked with during my 35 years as a Baron. I have heard many people say that I will always bleed Baron Blue, and I am quite certain that they are correct. GO BARONS
