Blue Rain Gallery, a prominent art destination in the Southwest, has opened its doors in Durango, Colorado. Gallery owner, Leroy Garcia, was inspired to expand to Durango due to its charm and business-friendly atmosphere. Blue Rain Gallery’s legacy of promoting contemporary art, including a focus on Native American and regional art, will now be extended to the Durango community.

Featured artist Eunika Rogers, known as the “Red Dirt Girl” in contemporary art, is a pioneering artist celebrated for her innovative use of clay as a primary medium. Her journey began with a passion for ceramics, leading to the revelation that wet clay could be applied to canvas, staining and gripping the fibers as it dries. Rogers’ art embodies a deep connection to the earth and nature, paying homage to the elements and capturing a sense of place. She meticulously sources clay from local landscapes, forging a direct link between her art and the environment. The act of painting with clay requires an intimate understanding of the medium’s behavior, combining intuition and deliberate guidance. Her work explores the fragility of the earth and the interconnectivity of nature and humanity, evoking thought-provoking narratives and emotions. Rogers’ diverse portfolio spans serene landscapes to abstract pieces, inviting viewers to appreciate the artistic potential within the very fabric of our Earth.

ROS S RI C HMOND Another featured Durango artist, Ross Richmond’s sculptures have focused mainly on the figure, capturing a moment, a gesture, a quiet interaction between people or an individual and their thoughts. Animals have also played an important role in his work, either being included along with the figurative pieces referencing humans relationship with the natural world, or more recently the animal as stand alone pieces highlighting the forms of these natural and elegant creatures portraying them in an almost human manner.

RAY MOND GI B BY Raymond Gibby, a bronze sculptor, draws his artistic inspiration from his childhood in the outdoors of Southern California and his family’s artistic background. While pursuing a formal art education, he was not only trained but encouraged to forge a path towards a full time art carreer. Gibby’s sculpting career began at a lost wax art foundry in Springville, UT, where he received mentorship from prominent artists. Over the years, through dedication and hard work, he built a portfolio of wildlife bronze sculptures that now adorn private and corporate collections across the United States.
