What do we mean by “LEAN MANUFACTURING”?

Well, lean is a growth strategy that teaches companies to continuously strive for more efficiency. At Blue Q, it keeps our eyes open for opportunities to improve our processes and environment … which probably sounds pretty boring. But what’s cool about it is that everyone in the whole company is included and empowered.

It’s like a game we play with ourselves — just how well can we oil this machine?

When it was time to improve our catnip process, we did it the lean way. We gathered our production department (and beyond) and took a deep dive into how our cat toys are handled: filled, sewn, packaged and packed. We timed ourselves, mapped our movements, and took a close look at every moment of the process. And we learned a ton! We figured out what was working and what was working a little less.

So, we made some adjustments that trimmed a ton of time and movement out of the process, and that allows us to assemble more pouches in less time. But, even better, that extra time frees us up to concentrate on doing other important stuff like goofing around or creating the next great Blue Q product, which we do like we do anything — together.
