Crochet is a craft in which BY ELLA MORK There are plenty of ways to get involved at the high school. Granville High School takes much pride in the opportunities students have to join clubs they are interested in. There are clubs for all interests and passions. Read this guide to learn more about some of the coolest clubs offered at the school. CLUBSCLUBSyarn is made up into a patterned fabric by looping yarn with a hooked needle. English teacher Noel Fortner, a crochet enthusiast, is the adviser of the club.“I started my interest in crocheting during the COVID lockdown and have quickly become obsessed with it,” Fortner said. They meet every Wednesday in the library from 2:45-3:45 where they have crafting time and snacks. There are about 42 members in the club and most CLUBSCLUBSASTRONOMY CLUB of them are new to crocheting. “I recommend Crochet Club to students because it has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety,” Fortner said. The repetition of crocheting is proven to help boost seratonin as well. BluePrints Photo by Ella Kunar CLUBSCLUBSPRESIDENT: Carly Mayer ADVISER: Mr. Bait MEETINGS: Once a month at Intermediate School Astronomy club started last year with the intent for students to learn about different objects in the sky and apply them to the observations. “The main goal of the club is to help people gain knowledge of what’s going on in such a large part of the universe,” senior Carly Mayer said. Her role as president is to work with Physics and Astronomy teacher Mike Bait to bring in speakers to teach and help the students. She also plans observations at the intermediate school once or twice a month. CLUBS CLUBS CLUBS CLUBS FISHING CLUB PRESIDENT: Blake Albery ADVISER: Mr. Reding MEETINGS: Friday Mornings Fishing club started four years ago when four juniors in high school were really into fishing and wanted to find a way for their fellow classmates to get involved. Environmental teacher CLUBS Jim Reding is the adviser of the club. “I wanted to be the advisor because I like fishing and for me, it was a great opportunity to get more students outside” Reding said. They typically meet on Friday mornings before school in Reding’s room where they talk about fishing stories and techniques. They have evening meetings a couple times a months and go to different places to fish, have service projects and tournaments. CLUBS
