Why an end of season sale?

It’s common for clothing companies to destroy excess inventory. Sometimes it’s cheaper to cut up, break, or burn than to have it take up shelf space. Obviously smashing perfectly good products with hammers is out of the question for us, so enter the biannual end-of-season sale: your chance to grab items we happen to have way too much of at awesome prices. At United By Blue, we’re committed to leading the charge towards better business practices. So on World Oceans Day 2019, we pledged to quit our addiction to plastic and remove single-use poly bags, bubble wrap, plastic tape and more from our supply chain by World Oceans Day 2020.

Here’s what we’ve accomplished so far.

BEFORE

We now only use boxes made with 100% postconsumer waste to ship products to customers.

We’ve instituted poly bag alternatives at our largest manufacturers; now more than 54% of our apparel will be shipped in a paper band or biodegradable poly bag instead of plastic, saving over 58,000 plastic bags in the spring season alone.

We’ve removed plastic from the shipping process for our accessories, which will save 92,000 plastic bags this spring.
