K DanceWorks has had the community dancing since 2004, continuously evolving with the times, parent/dancer needs, and always striving to offer something for everyone! As dance lovers and educators, they have built a studio that teaches a variety of styles of dance including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical and Contemporary. CK trains dancers of all levels beginning with novice to advanced competitive levels. In addition to dance, they offer all levels of Acro with Acrobatic Arts certified instructors training hundreds of students weekly in a fully equipped facility. Many of their programs have become staples in the community such as, “A Chance to Dance” and “Reach Out,” which respectively cater adaptive dance to special needs students and provide dancers with performance opportunities in the community. Their Reach Out Teams just roCKed the Taste of Acworth stage this Fall! By partnering with local schools, CK Off-Campus Locations have brought dance magic education into the school week at Pickett’s Mill Elementary, Frey Elementary, and Legacy Academy. Their competition program, DancElite, consists of sixteen teams ranging from all levels and ages of dancers. Competing at regional and national competitions, these award-winning students have gained recognition while traveling each spring to perform and showcase their talent on many stages. Whatever role you play, each individual who walks in the doors becomes a part of the CK family. So Far So Good on the Gridiron!
C
Carson Beck is gone and Kirby Smart does not boast his most talented team but the culture has been built and the Dawgs are still right up there near the top. Former Rabun County High School superstar Quarterback Gunner Stockton has rewarded Smart’s confidence in him by having a great season thus far. Stockton was looked at as more of a game manager and not really an elite college type starter but he has been really really good and especially so when the chips are down like in that great overtime win at Tennessee in mid September. The Dawgs have started pretty slowly in a lot of these SEC contests but roared back against not only the Volunteers in Knoxville but also against both the Auburn Tigers and the Ole Miss Rebels. There is no shame in losing to a really good Alabama team and that being the lone loss and a 6-1 start at the time of this writing is very good. UGA will need to start playing a little more consistently if they are to win a third natty over the last five years.
Yes, the Atlanta Falcons are trending up and a good ways up. But also yes, this team can lay an egg with the best of them, just see the game in Carolina earlier this season as one example.

ollege and professional football in the state of Georgia can be a little hit or miss. Certainly, the University of Georgia rules the roost and has won a few National Championships in recent years. This year has looked promising once again for the Dawgs (assuming they don’t play Alabama again) as well as for both the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Atlanta Falcons.
All in all, though, the 2025 Atlanta Falcons are a team that has to be taken seriously. New defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has done a phenomenal job installing his defense. The 2025 draft was extremely fruitful with the likes of Jalon Walker, James Pearce Jr., Xavier Watts and Billy Bowman Jr.. These young guys have fit in nicely and have finally given this franchise a pass rush. As for the offense, it is talented with a pretty high ceiling but has also underachieved mightily at times. Michel Penix will be a very good NFL Quarterback after he gets a few more starts under his belt. The lefty has a great skill set and can really sling it. Bijan Robinson is a generational superstar and Drake London is a top 10 wide receiver on the planet. The Falcons haven’t finished over .500 since 2017. That’s obviously not good and the franchise as a whole is not exactly known for a winning culture. But things do appear to be brighter right now and I have high hopes for this team here in 2025.
GEORGIA TECH YELLOW JACKETS
Wow what a start to 2025! 7-0 overall and 4-0 and leading the ACC is amazing and well deserving of the seventh spot in the nation. Quarterback Haynes King is a superstar who is as tough of a player as I have ever seen. This guy can and has literally willed his team to victory. It’s not always a work of art but King has that uncanny ability to get it done, no matter the situation. Surrounding King is a good amount of blue-chip talent with guys like Jamal Haynes, Malachi Hosley, Malik Rutherford and Eric Rivers. Add in some extremely talented big uglies in the trenches like All-American Keylan Rutledge, former Lassiter star Ethan MacKenny and others protecting King and you can see why this offensive line was just rewarded with a Joe Moore award nomination. Brent Key has done as good of a job as any coach in the nation. There is just something about his toughness and mentality that has worn off on the players. The former offensive linemen here at the Flats eats and breathes Georgia Tech toughness and has been nothing short of amazing as the head coach. Hiring him full-time three years ago was the best decision this University has ever made. The Jackets may not finish undefeated or win the national championship when all is said and done but the strides being made in midtown Atlanta have been incredible and the sky appears to be the limit with Key calling the shots. Justin Hanover is a sports reporter/analyst who has worked in the business since 1996. His stops have included ESPN, CNN, 790 The Zone, 680 The Fan and the Atlanta Falcons. He has also done play-by-play analysis and color commentary ranging from the high school level all the way through the professional level. Justin lives in Smyrna with his wife and three children.

Equipped to Shine in a Dark World By Kate Hartley
“T
his little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine…” A quick scroll through social media shows how dark our world has become — how in need of “little lights” we are to shine and bring hope. So … what if we raised up our children to boldly do just that? What if this idyllic song became a mission — an anthem — of the next generation? That’s the mission behind North Cobb Christian School in Kennesaw, where equipping students to impact their world with Jesus’s love is as much a part of the curriculum as reading, writing, and arithmetic.

“Our goal is to equip students to know their God-given identity so they can unwaveringly share the love of Jesus with a world desperately in need of His light,” says Robert Gnann, NCCS Director of Student Life and class of 2015 alumnus. “NCCS’s academic program is stellar. Our recent class of 2025 was accepted into Yale, Purdue, West Point, Brown, Georgia Tech, UGA, and over 380 other universities,” says Gnann, who also teaches Honors Physics. “But here’s the thing: if a student graduates at the top of their class but loses their soul along the way, we have failed.”
Identity 101 So at NCCS, students from age 3 onward learn reading, writing, arithmetic, and identity: who they are in Christ. This is taught through a two-pronged approach: (1) students learn who Jesus is, and (2) they learn who God uniquely created them to be. “Our students learn biblical truth through daily Bible class, weekly chapel, and intentional discipleship, while also discovering how God has uniquely gifted them — in arts, athletics, academics, and more. Knowing their strengths gives them confidence to be ‘fishers of men’ wherever God leads,” says Gnann. NCCS students also learn biblical identity through a program called Remember Whose You Are — a biblically based, scientifically accurate course on human sexuality rooted in gospel identity, taken by all fifth- through eighth-grade students. This program was created by NCCS science teacher Janelle Rupp, RN, BSN, who was named the 2023 Herzog National Teacher of the Year for its development.
Lead and Love Like Jesus As they glean a solid foundation in biblical truth and God-given identity, students are encouraged to turn their focus outward. “Jesus spent a lot of time meeting physical needs as he spread hope, so NCCS students do that, too,” shares Gnann. “This fall, students ages 3 through 10 made 750 silverware packets and 76 blankets for area shelters. In January, every ninth- through twelfth-grade student will go on a service trip from Poland to Peru. Over 440 students will spread out across 5,600 miles to share the love of Christ with our world. “But it’s not about the numbers or the miles,” clarifies Gnann. “It’s about the message we are sending both to our students — ‘You are not too young to be a light!’ — and to our neighbors — ‘You are seen and loved by the God who made you.’ Every day, our students learn how to love like Jesus: how to take who God uniquely made them to be — and go out to light up the darkness.”

ationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Jay Allen is known for his country-rock music and impactful philanthropy efforts. Following the loss of his mother to Alzheimer’s in 2019, Jay has passionately dedicated his career to raising awareness and funding for Alzheimer’s and dementia related causes. To date, he has helped raise over $160 million to combat these diseases, offering hope and encouragement to countless families across the nation. The Jay Allen Living Gracefully Tour, a first of its kind, launched this past September. It is presented by Grace Management Inc. and our own Celebration Village of Acworth was one of the host facilities. Our Town Monthly was proud, not only to attend this electrifying event but to get a personal sit-down with Jay.
Tara: You could have kept touring as a Nashville country music star yet you chose to switch gears and fight for Alzheimer’s awareness and their caregivers. I’m not sure many people would do that… Jay Allen: In a sense, it chose me. I was performing with my band after only being in Nashville for a couple of years. I just remember it hit me, I felt like I was missing the point…it felt empty for some reason. Then my mom got sick and it flipped my whole world upside down. My dad brought her to me…when she walked through the door, she wasn’t my mom. She looked through me like I was a stranger. We took her out where there was a band playing and she heard it and wanted to go dance. Something about that moment-the music, the band, the interaction, it woke her up. Her sick mind woke up for a second. Mom and I were slow dancing, I felt her take a breath, like come to life. She said, “oh Jay I missed you”. It was because of music and that moment…it was sad but it inspired me. And a line came to me, “I still see you in between the blank stares”. In that moment I knew I was going to write a song for her and go to war for her! God just had a plan for me.
ABOUT JAY ALLEN + Philanthropist/singer-songwriter originally from Cedar Falls, Iowa, who was influenced by both rock and country music growing up. + Appeared on Season 22 of The Voice in 2022, receiving chair turns from Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani. + It was his 2018 hit “Blank Stares” that put him on the map. The song is a tribute to his mother, who suffered from early-onset Alzheimer’s, and it went viral on Facebook, reaching over 1 billion views. As a result of his advocacy efforts for the Alzheimer’s Association, Allen has been involved with several international events, including the Rita Hayworth Gala, for which he has helped to raise over $160 million. He has also received numerous accolades, including The Caregiver Award from the National Alzheimer’s Association. + He was invited to the White House for a private screening of the documentary “Unconditional” which features “Break From Broken”, a song he wrote for the film. In addition to participating in the First Lady’s Joining Forces initiative, he also performed at the US Capitol for members of Congress. + Named Favorite Competition Contestant at the 2022 Country Now Awards and featured in Music Mayhem Magazine’s “2023 Artists to Watch”. + Allen embarked on his first headlining tour, the “Night of Hope Tour” in 2024, performing across the country and continuing his philanthropic efforts. + He is currently in studio working on new music and actively touring, honoring and celebrating caregivers.
Jay’s video “Blank Stares” has received over 1 billion views and he has now partnered with the National Alzheimer’s Association. He tours care communities to bring joy and hope to the residents and their families and now his Living Gracefully Tour is dedicated to the unsung heroes, the caregivers.

early half of adults in the United States are part of the “sandwich generation”—people in their 40s and 50s caring for both aging parents and growing children, according to the Pew Research Center. It’s a reality that leaves many families searching for support. Seniors Helping Seniors® Northwest Atlanta is stepping up to meet that need with a model built on dignity, empathy, and connection. The company’s roots trace back to 1998, when founder Kiran Yocum, inspired by her 14 years of service alongside Mother Teresa in India, brought her vision of senior-to-senior care to the U.S. Guided by values of respect and compassion, the organization has since grown to hundreds of locations nationwide and abroad. Locally, Terri and Kip Haswell opened Seniors Helping Seniors® Northwest Atlanta in June 2023, serving Cobb, Cherokee and Pickens counties. Having lived in the community for more than 30 years, the Haswells bring both personal commitment and local insight to the families they serve. What makes their approach unique is the peer-to-peer model: active seniors are employed to provide care and companionship to their less active peers. “Our mission is to create meaningful connections while fulfilling the needs of our caregivers, clients, and their families,” Terri said. “This creates more of a friendship than a traditional caregiver-client relationship,” Terri explained. “Because our caregivers understand the aging process, they can offer empathy rather than sympathy.” The model is designed to enrich lives on both sides. Seniors receiving care enjoy independence and companionship, while caregivers find purpose, community, and supplemental income. Each match is carefully considered, with the Haswells personally meeting clients in their homes and thoroughly screening caregivers to ensure the right fit.
