The Salabarria family created Oaks Senior Living in 1998 to provide person-centered care to elders who can no longer live safely at home. The family operated executive team has been faithfully providing senior living in Georgia and South Carolina. Oaks at West Cobb, an Oaks Senior Living managed community, embodies the values set in place to create the best home for your loved one. Located in Marietta, GA and only a short drive from Atlanta, Oaks at West Cobb features luxury assisted living and memory care apartments with various care service options tailored to fit your needs.

The Thriving Day in the Life of an Oaks at West Cobb Memory Care Resident

At Oaks at West Cobb, each resident’s community experience is tailored to their individual needs and desires. The flow of one resident’s day may not be the same as another, being individual care needs vary per resident. Take a few moments to join the journey of a typical day in the life of an Oaks at West Cobb memory care resident.

Many of our residents begin their day with a freshly prepared meal by our Executive Chef and dining team, with the option of having specialized meals or alternate dining choices depending on dietary need. Meals continue to be prepared for lunch and dinner; however, residents have the option to eat at any point during the day as they would in their own home due to our all-day dining service. These meals are wonderful opportunities for our residents to enjoy time with their neighbors.

After enjoying breakfast, residents have the option to get active with some yoga or chair exercises lead by our creative lifestyle directors. In addition to exercise-based activities, our lifestyle directors incorporate activities into daily routines that honor the resident’s history, personal preferences, and abilities to enable the highest quality of life possible. Our daily activities create freedom of choice for residents, so each day has new possibilities!

While dining and activities are fundamental parts of the Oaks Senior Living mission, person-centered care is our main priority. Each day, the resident is always the focus. Our management team works together to provide the exact care plan that you need to create the most abundant life possible. Residents will have 24-hour access to care partners with care services optimized by our professional nursing team. Our nursing team has been specifically trained in person-centered memory care so that compassionate, dignified, and professional care can be provided to all memory care residents. Partnering with EmpowerMe Wellness, residents can receive onsite physical therapy and have access to diagnostics for non-blood products creating quick turnaround times of results and treatments. This relationship starts upon the resident moving in, and if there is no immediate need for therapeutic treatment, EmpowerMe Wellness will continue to collaborate with our team to ensure that treatment will be available if it is needed.

“Living here has been a pleasure. The staff and residents are very friendly, the community is beautiful, and it just feels good calling this place home.” ~ Oaks at West Cobb Resident

Come be a part of our family!

Each part of a resident’s day is created to honor the life, desires, and needs of the resident all while providing a sense of purpose. Come take look and see everything that is available for you and your loved one at Oaks at West Cobb.

Our Town 9
Superior Plumbing Presents 91ST ANNUAL GEORGIA STATE FAIR
10 Our Town

Under Those Friday Night LighTS!

It feels as if I just wrote this yearly High School football article yesterday. How in the world has it been a full year? Where did the Summer go? Football time already? Absolutely crazy!

Let’s take a look at some of our Cobb County High School teams, a county which has won four state championships over the past eight years. The last to do so were Marietta and Harrison back in 2019, Allatoona was victorious despite a plethora of injuries in 2015 and Mt. Paran won the Class A Private title in 2014.

So, what

are we looking at here in 2023????

NORTH COBB WARRIORS

Shane Queen’s (125-67 in 17 seasons at the school) Warriors went a perfect 5-0 in region play and 9-3 overall last season. All-State QB Malachi Singleton graduated and is now at Arkansas but the Warriors once again are going to be a tough out.

Junior quarterback Nick Grimstead, a really talented baseball catcher as well, should be calling the shots under center. He will lean on his 4* running back in David Eziomume. The 6’1” all-purpose back is poised for a breakout season before taking his talents to Clemson next year. Eziomume rumbled 71 yards for a touchdown in the Spring game and I have a sneaky suspicion that won’t be the only time we see his explosiveness this season.

Add in the very talented 3* cornerback Elijah Lee who will be playing at Coastal Carolina and linebacker and Air Force commit Grayson Hodges and the Warriors once again have a shot at winning it all in 7A.

WALTON RAIDERS

Head Coach Daniel Brunner boasts a 52-22 record in seven seasons at Raider Valley. Last year Brunner led his team to a 10-3 record and an amazing 42-35 second round playoff victory at big bad Buford before bowing out to the great freshman Ju-Ju Lewis and a finalist in the Carrollton Trojans. And now the Raiders return 11 starters including star quarterback, Jeremy Hecklinski.

Hecklinski, and his big arm, lived up to the hype in 2022 after replacing Zak Roszman. The now senior threw for 3,520 yards and 37 touchdowns last season and by all accounts will be even better in 2023.

Hecklinski will rely on his monster 6’6” lineman Daniel Calhoun for some protection. Calhoun is the highest rated offensive lineman recruit in the state, as he has only allowed one sack over the previous two seasons, and is committed to be a Georgia Bulldog at the next level.

One of the main targets will be Hunter Teal, a 3* All-State tight end who is committed to Miami of Ohio. Teal caught 50 passes a season ago for 970 yards and four scores.

On the defensive side of the ball senior linebacker and North Carolina commit Ashton Woods can be a one-man wrecking crew. Woods was the Region defensive player of the year thanks in part to his 128 tackles and 5 sacks and should be great once again this season.

KELL LONGHORNS

After last season’s 10-2 season the sky appears to be the limit for Bobby May in his second season at the helm at Kell. The Longhorns scored a high flying 402 points compared to allowing only 228.

The offense should be just fine once again as super athletic quarterback Bryce Clavon returns. In 2022 Clavon threw for 2,668 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also carried the ball 91 times for 789 yards and 15 scores. Clavon is a superb middle infielder and a top 10 baseball prospect who last year de-committed from Oklahoma. He has been described as unique and polarizing and is now looking at the Sooners among other suitors for his work on the gridiron.

Patroling the defense is 4* Justin “JLo” Logan, a 6’3” 215-pound Arkansas commit who is rated as the 16th best linebacker in the country.

OSBORNE CARDINALS

No, Osborne isn’t winning a football State Championship this season or probably anytime soon but Luqman Salam and the Cards deserve a little praise for last season’s amazing, and I mean amazing, improvement.

Simply put, the boys off of Favor Road have really never been much of a football program. Since 1994 and not including last season, they had won a grand total of 34 games and had 17 seasons of one win or less.

Well, the 2022 season started 5-0 and thanks to new Offensive Coordinator Phil Ironside (former Hillgrove head coach) they scored more points overall than their previous four seasons combined.

Osborne has never played in a state playoff game but after last season’s breakthrough there is hope that this could be the year.

“My Mom has been living at Holbrook since November and we are thrilled with everything about this amazing, family-owned company. Especially because my Mom has improved so much, in so many different ways, since she moved in. They do so many "little" things to make my Mom and my family feel special. I live in Philadelphia and came down to see my Mom for 4 days and stayed at one of the apartments on site. It was wonderful! I can't recommend Holbrook more highly. If I could give it 10 stars, I would.”

Whitefield Academy, a Christ-centered, college preparatory school, exists to bolster Christian families in rearing young people who go onto college and life with a passion for learning, for others ahead of self, and for the living and active Jesus.

From the first words of the mission statement to the cross in the middle of our logo, Whitefield is founded on, and for, Jesus Christ. For students and parents, faculty and staff, and the community at large, a passion for Jesus is the throughline for everything. Here are a few ways that passion is much more than just a concept or talking point:

Christ-filled, College Preparatory Curriculum As a school, Whitefield’s core values require strong academic standards. Grounded in biblical truth, students are challenged to think big and dive deep. From PreK to Senior year, teachers partner with parents to ensure that students receive an education that focuses on both a firm Biblical foundation, and an academic experience that prepares them to be leaders in the world beyond our walls.

To do this, Whitefield offers over 30 Advanced Placement (AP) and honors courses while also providing Bible classes that incorporate topics like Christian thought, personal testimony, and theology into the academic experience. Biblical courses are not the only opportunity students have to hear the gospel throughout their school day. They will learn from Ms. Hawkins (PreK) the way that God created a butterfly, from Ms. Kreahe (US English) that a John Donne poem mirrors salvation, or from Mr. David (US Science) why a Creator is a scientifically valid explanation for the universe.

Between daily, core-curriculum learning, elective offerings, and Bible classes, the students have the opportunity to marry the passion for Jesus with their rich academic knowledge they can take with them far beyond their years at Whitefield.

Weekly Re-Centering Chapels As Christians we need constant reminders of Christ and what He has done for us. In light of this, Chapel is built into the week for the Whitefield community. This helps keep us grounded on our aligned foundation of truth in Christ.

In Lower School chapels, students perform skits, allowing them to come together to learn about God with their classmates. Middle and Upper School students learn from teachers, local youth ministers, and guest speakers. They are challenged and encouraged to grow in their faith.

Extracurriculars Centered on Identity Formation Whitefield offers 56 athletic teams, over 90 coaches, and 21 varsity level programs. The fine arts program inspires students to develop artistic skills, to reach their full creative potential, and for self-expression. Students can participate in theater, chorus, band, orchestra, and dance. Teachers and coaches encourage students to pursue excellence both on and off the field, and seek to align programs with the heartbeat and mission of Jesus.

Embracing a Passion for Jesus

These spaces are an opportunity to worship and honor the Lord with our talents, recognizing that everything good comes from God. As coaches and teachers walk alongside students, they remind them that the ultimate goal is not to be the top athlete or the best performer, but rather to live a life with an identity rooted in Christ.

Christ-Centered Leadership The leadership at Whitefield –faculty, staff, teachers, and administrators – are poured into so that they are well-prepared to lead the community in a Christ-centered way. Through the intentional time of spiritual retreats, small groups, and the development of the body of Christ, staff are fed, encouraged, and shown the love of Jesus on a daily basis.

In-service – an intentional time for faculty and staff at Whitefield – focuses on building relationships with co-workers professionally and spiritually, while being reminded of the purpose of their work. Last year’s in-service featured the call to see people as Imago Dei (the image of God) which trickled down from the leadership to the entire community and became an impactful part of the school year.

Mission to Others: At Whitefield, we are committed to serving others. This is built into the fiber of our school and actively encouraged for every member of our community.

Every year, we gather to give back through our Great Day of Service. On this day, the school partners and serves alongside over 30 local organizations. Additionally, Whitefield requires community service for students through field trips and required hours, growing them in servant-heartedness and Christlikeness. Students have participated in opportunities such as overseas mission trips, volunteering at the local food pantry, and writing notes of encouragement to first responders.

Another way Whitefield empowers students to serve those around them is through a partnership with Ten Thousand Reasons, an organization started by Whitefield moms in 2016,. Students apply for grants for their chosen organization, learning to advocate for causes they care about.

The Importance of Prayer in the Whitefield Community An undercurrent of prayer runs through everything at Whitefield, often unseen but never unimportant. From public prayers – like in Chapel and before all sports games – to the small groups of parents that meet and pray together regularly, the campus is saturated with prayer.

Through the Two or More program, parents come together each week to pray for specific divisions of the school or walk the campus together while asking the Lord to protect it. And everyone gets involved through Whitefield traditions, like back-to-school prayer breakfasts and tying prayer ribbons to fences.

Whitefield recognizes that the importance of prayer cannot be underestimated, so happens earnestly and often.

Whitefield exists for many reasons and to do many things and we strive to do those things well. But the most important, is to keep Christ at the center of it all.

What is Burn Boot Camp?

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Burn Smyrna is community. You get a great 45 minute workout alongside your friends (or future friends). You may not know anyone when you walk in the gym but you will when you walk out. You will feel encouraged by the trainer and the person beside you or maybe even from across the room and you will get multiple high fives throughout camp. You will see all fitness levels in camp. You will see people get modifications for exercises and some people given an extra challenge. Burn is personal training in a group setting where the trainer meets you where you are in your fitness journey. You attend Focus Meetings where the trainer gives you the tools needed to fuel your workout, keep you motivated, and achieve your goals.

At Burn, the protocol changes every week, this way you don’t get bored with your workouts. Burn has strength and conditioning days. Each day works a different part of the body so your body is constantly being challenged. You have a warm up, the main workout, where you move though several stations around the room, and a finisher, where you push your body with the hardest part of your workout. Burn is where moms and dads can bring their children to childwatch and they can watch through the window as their parents get stronger.

Benefits of Circuit Training & Burn Boot Camp:

l Improves endurance

l Increases strength and promotes muscle growth

l Improves heart health

l Offers a time efficient workout

l Designed to work for all fitness levels

l Offers a full body workout

l Increases adherence

l Improves mood

l Burns significant calories

Unlimited Camps, Focus Meetings, nutritional support, complimentary Childwatch, and the support of our incredible Burn community.

want to book, book it as fast as possible. I once booked a last-minute vacation to Disney World (and I mean truly last-minute as the family was leaving in less than 24-hours!) and from the time I sent their quote until they made their choice an hour later, two of the three resorts were completely sold out.

Call a Travel Advisor – Travel advisors are experts so take advantage of our resources and connections. We will be able to advise you of the best destinations and hotels for a last-minute getaway, know insider tips to save you money, and have access to suppliers and hotels that the average person does not. For example, that sold out resort you’re dying to stay at may have some inventory held back and a travel advisor will have the connections with the property to give you the best shot at snagging a room.

If you are the type of person that likes to have your vacation planned out in detail prior to traveling, then a last-minute vacation may not be the best choice for you. So much of a last-minute vacation – from the destination to the hotel to the activities – will be spur-of-the-moment so letting go of detailed planning is key to enjoying your trip. Plus, the not knowing is half of the fun!

Travel Mid-Week –Prices and availability for flights are typically best if you are traveling mid-week rather than over the weekend, and hotel availability and rates will often be better during the week. If your travel dates allow for it, try to travel on a Tuesday or Wednesday to maximize your choices and minimize your expenses.

Act Quickly – Last-minute inventory is fleeting – whether you’re talking flights, resorts, or rooms – so make sure that you book everything as quickly as possible. There may only be one room remaining at a property or a few seats remaining on a flight so once you’ve determined what you

Be Flexible – My number one piece of advice is to be flexible! During the planning process be as flexible as possible – from the destination to the travel dates to how you’re going to get there, be open-minded to all of your options. Also, have realistic expectations with the planning process and during your vacation. That hot, new resort you’ve been dreaming about has probably been booked for months. You most likely will not be able to get the exact dates or hotel or room or even destination you initially wanted – you may even find that your first, second, or even third choices aren’t available – but don’t be discouraged. Also, be open to the unexpected during your vacation when it comes to activities, tours, and excursions. Often the experience you will end up loving the most is one you never even thought of doing.

Last-minute travel can be a fantastic experience and one of your best vacations ever!

AGE IN PLACE

At Varenita, residents can “age in place” comfortably and securely. One of the main benefits of choosing Varenita of West Cobb is that residents can stay in the same community and, in many cases, the same “living area” even as their health care requirements change. This means that once you or your loved one moves into our beautiful community, it’s home. No matter how much needs to change over time.

ASSISTED LIVING

The perfect option for independent seniors who want support with daily tasks and personal care.

Varenita of West Cobb’s personalized assisted living care is designed for primarily independent seniors looking for a rich and rewarding lifestyle with an enhanced level of support. Guided by compassion and clinical expertise, our highly trained team members offer residents the gentle, individually focused support they need to flourish while retaining their independence.

Personalized Care for All Stages of Aging

ASSISTED PLUS

This specialized program is ideal for those living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early memory loss. Our industry-leading transitional care program is built around an inclusive “open campus” model. It is specifically designed for residents experiencing the early symptoms of memory loss or MCI but may not require the full attention or secure environment of a traditional memory program. Residents who are appropriate for transitional care continue to reside in the Assisted Living area of the community while receiving additional support with daily activities.

MEMORY CARE

An enriching and supportive program designed for those living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.

Based on the latest research, Varenita’s memory care program offers a truly compassionate approach to care designed for those residents living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. This living option combines an engaging, secure memory care neighborhood with a stimulating, person-centered lifestyle often missing from other cognitive care programs.

ON-SITE THERAPY SERVICES

Unlike many other senior living communities, Varenita offers comprehensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy services for all our residents without the hassel of having to leave the community.

FIVE-STAR RESTAURANT-STYLE DINING

Varenita offers residents and their families an impressive mix of delicious cuisine and rich dining experiences. Our accomplished chef and culinary team create an ever-changing menu of delicious entrees made with organic, locally sourced ingredients across three beautiful dining venues. These include vegetarian, gluten-free, and specially designed dishes for residents with specific dietary needs. In addition, we have a registered dietitian available to help with residents’ nutritional needs.

THE VALUE OF CONNECTION

At Varenita, we offer an impressive mix of activities, classes, and events that foster engagement, stimulate the mind, and provide a rewarding sense of purpose.

OUR TOWN’s

Those are the words of world-renowned Broadway and West End actor and Marietta native, Shuler Hensley.

Hensley has worked at the highest level in his profession and is an award-winning film, television and stage actor and singer earning the very illustrious Olivier and Tony Awards, among many other prestigious awards. Most recently he was on Broadway with Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster playing Marcellus Washburn in “The Music Man”

Our Town sat down with the 56-year-old and it was hard not to be blown away by, of course, his amazing accomplishments, but also the way he gives back to the younger generation and our community as a whole.

OTM: You have been all around the world acting and singing and doing a little bit of everything whether it be in Frankenstein or Les Miserables or Tarzan or Law and Order or The Greatest Showman or whatever. How did this all come about for you?

SH: Well, I left UGA before my junior year back in 1987 or 1988 and transferred to the Manhattan School of Music to train in opera. I loved opera but was more interested in acting. I did an undergrad in three years and went to the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia for my Masters. I was always a big guy. I’m 6’3”. I’m a big guy with a really good natural voice. I was really able to do a lot of production and get a lot of work because there weren’t a lot of guys like that. I did Phantom (of the Opera) in 1996 and 1997, the Andrew Lloyd Weber one in Hamburg, in Germany. That was my big break. I felt really good about singing a show in German. Then on my way back to New York we were seeing my wife’s relatives in England. At that time my brother in-law was a theatre manager and he knew The National was doing a theatre revival of “Oklahoma”. I got the role of Jud Fry opposite Hugh Jackman so that was the start of it. That is where I earned an Olivier Award, which is the English version of a Tony.

OTM: And then the rest is history, one would say. It would probably take me an hour to list all of your accomplishments. But now you find yourself back here in Cobb County to where it all somewhat started and are helping others try to realize their dream thanks in part to the City Springs Theatre Company.

SH: I love Marietta and I love Cobb County and I love that my family is here including my son who goes to Kennesaw State. I’ve been a part of the City Springs Theatre Company in Sandy Springs from the very beginning, six years ago. I’m the Artistic Director and insist on being an active actor and performer. We also have a training program for the kids.

We want to help them go to college for theatre. To see local kids with so much talent and then help them network is what it’s all about. It’s just an awesome feeling to give back to the community. This all comes from my mother who was the founder and artistic director for the Georgia Ballet. She helped kids all of her life.

OTM: Please elaborate on CSTC. I’m not really a theatre person but would love to hear more. Where can we go to see a play?

SH: We have a great, beautiful performing arts center near Roswell Road that houses government offices as well. The main theatre holds about eleven to twelve hundred people, is very open and is without a bad seat in the house. It’s a really great theatre with sightlines and has a lot of room backstage. The lobby is one of the most beautiful in the state. The community involvement makes it really work for us as we are finally back up to 4200 subscribers, which is a pre-pandemic level. Live theatre is extremely important to the community.

OTM: What type of performances do you guys put on? What’s coming up?

SH: We have “Fiddler on the Roof” coming up in which I am directing. We do traditional theatre but also try to do productions relative to the younger generations. We did “Cats” and it was a massive success. The theatre will have “Legally Blonde” and “Beauty and the Beast”. We even just got a six-week run of “Jersey Boys”. The ultimate goal of City Springs Theatre Company is to proudly have a style of show for the entire community. We normally have three week runs of eight shows per week, Wednesday through Sunday with more shows on Saturdays and Sundays.

OTM: You have had such an amazing career, which even includes having an award named after you, the Shuler Hensley Awards, for award winning High School students. What was a young Shuler Hensley like?

SH: I grew up right here in Marietta at the foot of Kennesaw Mountain. I even now live in the same house that I was born and raised in. I went to Westminster and sang in the Chorus and ensemble and played baseball, football and basketball before heading to UGA on a baseball scholarship. My dad, who was actually born and raised nearby in Smyrna, was an All-American football player at Georgia Tech and my mom was a cheerleader at UGA.”

OTM: Your parents were athletes at Georgia and Georgia Tech, huh. I bet there is one day a year in November (annual football game) where there is some tension.

SH: Yup!

ast year, my English teacher gave my class an assignment with very little instructions, write a research paper that was a minimum of three pages, include at least five sources and pick any topic you wanted. Normally, for our writing assignments we had to write about a book we just completed or research about subjects I had minimal interest in. However, this assignment was enjoyable because it allowed us to learn more about ideas that interested us. My classmates one by one began coming up with ideas on what to write about. The topics varied from Lebron James, the benefits of swimming as well as the best foods to eat in the summer. It took me a bit longer to decide on my topic because there are so many different concepts that I could have written about. After many different ideas, I finally landed with the title “The US Education System Has Failed”.

For the past few years I have seen flaws or changes that need to be made to improve the environment that students learn in. First of all, the amount of stress that school adds to a student’s life is unhealthy and draining. Some of the stress is due to the workload, but most of it is due to the comparison to other students. Comparing students to one another is not only unfair, but can break down one’s self-confidence causing immense anxiety and stress.

Also, the education system is outdated and no longer fits all students’ needs. Not many kids learn the exact same way and to force them to learn in one way does not benefit anyone. This makes it harder for kids to focus in class which creates a bad learning environment.

The lack of support for teachers has also proven to be a problem because they are underpaid and overworked. Arguably, teachers have one of the hardest jobs because they are in charge of educating the future of America. The schools also do not make it an easy environment for teachers to work in, many teachers have to teach in a space with up to forty kids. There is no way that they can have everyone’s attention, valuable time is wasted that could be used for learning but instead the teacher is trying to rally individual students.

Finally, I found that another major problem is the fact that students lack to learn life skills. Many kids go into the real world not knowing basic life skills like taxes, something that should and could easily be taught in schools rather than information that could easily be looked up online.

Not only did I enjoy writing this paper, but I received the highest grade I have ever received on a writing assignment “it is easier to write about topics that you have interest in and genuinely enjoy learning about”.

In my opinion, the US education system’s flaws can be turned into successes with the right changes. This topic is extremely important and should be addressed so that students benefit in the most ways possible.

A child’s education is one of the most important things in the world!

Don’t forget about these important things when you are moving.

It’s great to be “back” since the Pandemic has hit and I’m here to tell you that the Atlanta housing market is still strong. It’s a great time to make a move… maybe you need a bigger home because your family is growing or it’s time to downsize. No matter your situation, keep these things in mind to make the process as smooth as possible.

The following are my tips and recommendations:

l Get three quotes from reliable movers. Consult with your realtor to give you suggestions of reputable movers they have used.

l Ask yourself, can I do the move myself or should I hire an expert to do a full or partial move? The answer depends on your lifestyle, household size, budget, and amount of time you have to accomplish everything.

l Plan to unpack before you pack. Take photos of each room in your new home before you arrive with your furniture. Make a design where each and every piece of furniture and boxes should be placed in your new home before packing. Make sure you have the design with you on your moving day. Cross off each item as you place them.

l If you know when you are moving, start planning early. If you already know your new address, do a change of address with the post office via the internet. Schedule your utilities ahead of time at moving.com. Start packing early and do one room at a time. Pack one closet or drawer per night making packing easier instead of waiting until the last minute. Be proactive.

l Divide everything into helpful categories like:

· Give to charity (Get a receipt for taxes)

· Donate to a friend.

· Recycle.

· Trash.

· Pack it up now

· Keep handy till the day of moving.

· Have a garage sale.

l Packing early will keep your stress level down and alleviate your overwhelmed feelings. If you have children, plan to get a sitter or see if a family member or friend can watch the kids. If this is not possible, designate an area as a safe place for the children, so that everybody will remain calm during the move.

l Moving is stressful for your pets too. Look into doggie day care. Don’t let your pets get lost in the shuffle.

l Get ziplock baggies to put items like screws and washers from furniture pieces that need to be dismantled and be sure to clearly mark and label the baggies.

l Hooking up TVs, VCRs, home theater systems and computers can be challenging. Before unplugging any wires, be sure to take photos of the connections and label everything. I recommend taking these in your own vehicle for the move.

l Packing toxins and cleaning products such as detergents and paint products: dispose of as many as possible before the move in an eco-friendly manner. Call your city’s waste disposal division to ask what the proper disposal method should be. Don’t overstuff boxes with these items. Pack a small box within a large box to ensure there are no leaks. Mark these boxes especially if you have children or pets.

l Be sure to get full value insurance protection. If you are hiring a professional mover, then that will cost a few more dollars but it will provide you with peace of mind and eliminates problems if something goes wrong. If you get moving insurance, that means any loss or damaged article(s) will be repaired or replaced or a cash settlement will be made at a current market value regardless of age. Be aware though, minimum coverage will not cover the replacement cost of the more expensive items such as a flat screen TV, if damaged in transit.

l Doing an interstate move? Research with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration if you are looking for interstate movers or contact the local Better Business Bureau. Don’t forget to ask your realtor for recommendations on movers they have established good relationships with. I have a great moving company that I recommend to all of my clients.

Cooler fall temperatures is the PERFECT time to buy a home so start Packing!!!
