My Favorite Time of the Year

he holiday times are my favorite time of the year because I get to hang out with my family. I luckily celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah and get to watch New Year’s on tv.

This year Hanukkah starts on Thursday, December 7th and will end on Friday, December 15th. Our parents help us light the Menorah. On some days we get gifts and on other days we spin the dreidel, go places to see lights, or cook donuts with oil. It all depends on what we pull from our Hanukkah board that Mom makes. My dog, Pam, participates in the game Dreidel with her nose. It is fun to watch her play.

Christmas is on a Monday this year and our Elf Lucy came the day after Thanksgiving. She surprises us where she hides. She goes to the North Pole every night and comes back in the night in a new place. My favorite hiding place for Lucy has been in a pretzel jar.

On Christmas Eve my grandmother and great grandfather come and eat dinner with us. After we finish, we leave cookies and milk out for Santa Claus. The next morning my sisters and parents wake up at 7am and put on our onesies. We look over our railing and we see what presents are down in the living room. Then we go downstairs and wait for our grandmother and great grandfather to come back over. When they arrive we open our presents.

We go to two families’ houses and celebrate the holiday. At Grannies’ house we eat breakfast food. I like her grits and eggs. And then after opening some more presents we go to our Aunt’s house for some more fun. We eat lunch there and play games like Cornhole. I enjoy my cousin’s homemade chocolate chip cookies and my great grandfather’s special pasta salad. Of course, we open up more presents before we leave to go home.

New Year’s Eve is also fun as we sometimes celebrate the New Year at my grandmother’s and some- times celebrate at home. I am now old enough to stay up and watch the ball drop at midnight. I get to drink a sparkling cider that night.

I can’t believe that 2023 is already here!
