Department of CS Alumni Interaction

On 24.08.2019, alumna of Computer Science department, Ms. G. Divya Bharathi (Batch: 2016 – 2019) presently studying at Karunya University, interacted with the I year CS (SSS) students. She shared her experience and explained the resource availability and utilization at SLCS for the student community. She also motivated the students to do many projects and to concentrate more on studies for a better living.

Ms. G. Divya Bharathi enlightened the students about the career opportunities in Security Systems and its scope in industries and other sectors. The students were well motivated through this session.

Department of BCom Extension Activity

Students of B.Com, B&I – Mr.S.Gokulnath , Mr.M.Hariharan , E.Selvameena and Ms.K.Anjana of III year and Mr.Krishanakumar of I year spoke on the ‘Budget 2019’ in our Community Radio,Shyamalavani, wherein they explained the pros and cons of Budget 2019. They also briefed about the priority sector lending, especially to the agricultural sector and MSMES which would be useful for the listeners. Through this program people living in and around our college gained more insight, regarding ‘Budget 2019’

Department of FS & PM Intercollegiate Report

Students from the Department of Food Science and Processing Management participated in various competitions conducted by Mepco College, Sivakasi. Four students (R. Hemavarshini, S.Hema, M.Subavarshini and S.Keerthanaa ) won the 1st Prize in the event “Divide and Conquer” and the 2nd Prize in the event ‘Liphomaniac’.

National Level Inter Collegiate Cultural Fest

Students from the college participated in “Shishyas 2020”, a National Level Inter Collegiate Cultural Fest (Phase I), organized by Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College, Trichy. This competition was held at 9 places throughout India. In South Tamil Nadu it was organized at Sourashtra College, Madurai on 07/09/2019. This event was coordinated by the Department of Food Science and Processing Management. Totally 35 Students from the Department of B.Com (B&I), B.Com (H), B.Sc. (FS&PM), B.Sc. (MC&HM), BBA, B.Sc. (Animation) from our College participated in various competition such as English Elocution, Group Song, Solo Song Classical, Light Music, Solo, Mime, Skit, Fine Arts, Photography, Group Dance and Variety programmers. The students won the first prize in Variety competition and got a golden ticket to participate in the finals to be conducted on 11th January 2020 at Trichy.

Entrepreneurship Seminar The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized a Seminar on “Entrepreneurship in Hospitality Industry” on 29.08.2019. The Chief Guest, Mr.P.Srinivasan, Assistant Professor, IPHC, Mekelle University, Ethiopia, delivered a wonderful and meaningful lecture to the students on Entrepreneurship in the Hospitality Industry.

The Department of Marine Catering and Hotel Management organized Teacher’s Day Celebration at the Training Restaurant on 05.09.2019. All teaching and non teaching members participated. Students expressed their gratitude and appreciation for their teachers on this day, dedicated to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – the second President of India.

An Alumnus of MC&HM, Mr.Aravindha Samy 2014-2017 batch interacted with the second year students. He shared his experience on the Current Scope of Shipping and Hotel Industry. He elaborated on the duties and responsibilities of a General Steward, documents required to work in a ship, the contract period, sign in /sign off procedure and Safety Drill practices.

The Department of Networking organized a Career Counseling Program for the Second and the Virtualization and Cloud in Datacenter Third year students on 05.08.2019. Mr. B.Nagakumar, CEO - Devspark, Hyderabad, shared his experience

Course Committe Meeting

Alumni of our department, Mr. Deepak Mizra and Mr.Shivakumar interacted with the third year students and shared their experience on the scope in the IT and Networking Industry. They also discussed the following topics as per the need of industry - Data Center Equipment, Latest Networking Devices, Relevant Roles in IT Field and the Importance of International Certification.

The Department of Networking conducted a Course Committee Meeting on 16.08.2019 at 12.30 p.m. for the I, II and III year students and discussed the Current Syllabus, the Lesson Plan and Subject Coverage, Teaching Methodology and other Departmental activities.

Department of Viscom “Multi Cam production” workshop

The Department of Visual Communication organized a one day workshop on Multi Cam Production on 1st August, 2019 for the III B.Sc Viscom students.

The Executive Producer of Sun TV and alumnus of Viscom – SLCS, Mr M. Venkatraman was the resource person for the Workshop. He gave inputs on the three stages of TV production. He also demonstrated to the students about Multi Cam Switching methods.

Music Production Workshop

The Department of Visual Communication organized a two day Music Production Workshop on 24/07/2019 and 25/07/2019 for the B.Sc 3rd Year students.

The workshop was conducted by Mr.Vaangal Manikandan, a renowned Music composer. He lectured on the basics of Music production, composing and mixing which the students learned, devotedly. A song was composed by the guest and students for a music production project.

“Paradigm Shift” at Hosur ABOUT THE TRAINING PROGRAMME In an endeavour to attain the far-sighted vision of the Honourable President to produce Industry-Ready students, RL Institute of Management Studies took its second-year students for a three-day Outbound Learning Programme,“Paradigm Shift” at Hosur conducted by BreakThrough from 16.08.2019 to 18.08.2019. Mr. D. Abraham Pradeep, AP, RLIMS, Mr. P. Selvam, AP, RLIMS, Ms. R. SuganthiHepzibha, HoD, English and Ms. N. Selvi, AP, Tamil accompanied the students. This is the fourth year in a row that RLIMS has been providing this opportunity for its final year students to prepare themselves to face the competitive environment in the workplace. This Programme chiefly aimed at enhancing students’ managerial and interpersonal skills, which are highly indispensable, to stand out during placements.

The teaching pedagogy adopted was both fun and entertaining with the students being encouraged to immerse themselves in all the activities.

At the end of each day, the facilitators explained to the students the usefulness of each activity and how the same can be applied practically in real-time, both in personal and professional life.

A risk-taking activity named “High Ropes” made an indelible impression on the students. This adventurous activity required students to walk on a slack rope tied between two 30-feet high poles with adequate safety measures, which required a great deal of courage to perform. No sooner had the students seen the height of the poles than they became frightened. By constant encouragement and motivation by the trainers,the students, at last, mustered up their courage and performed this astonishing feat. This challenging activity tapped the courage that had remained inactive in students for ages. This also signifies that the more courageous the students are, the simpler the task lying ahead of them becomes. The training also enabled the students to revive and rejuvenate their mental spirits by busting their stresses . The students found themselves having improved their self-esteem, which were inculcated and infused in them through this training programme.
