What You Need to Be Warm

Neil Gaiman

A beautifully illustrated gift book from awardwinning author, Neil Gaiman, woven from thousands of responses to a question posed to his Twitter followers and written to support the work of the UN Refugee Agency

Sometimes it only takes a stranger in a dark place … to say we have the right to be here, to make us warm in the coldest season.

In 2019, Neil Gaiman asked his Twitter followers: What reminds you of warmth? Over 1,000 responses later, Neil began to weave replies from across the world into one poem in aid of the UNHCR’s winter appeal. It revealed our shared desire to feel safe, welcome and warm in a world that can often feel scary.

Neil Gaiman is a highly acclaimed writer of books for both children and adults. He has been supporting the UNHCR since 2013 and been a global Goodwill Ambassador since 2017.

UNHCR, the UN Refugee agency, is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.

The book features original contributions from Chris Riddell, Benji Davies, Yuliya Gwilym, Nadine Kaadan, Daniel Egnéus, Pam Smy, Petr Horáček, Beth Suzanna, Bagram Ibatoulline, Marie-Alice Harrel, Majid Adin, Richard Jones and Oliver Jeffers.
