AN INTERVIEW WITH HUMANS FOR EARTH

C O N D U C T E D B Y A L I N A A V E L L A N E D A

Tell us a little bit about yourself!

Namaste! I am Aparna Choudari. I am a 23year-old from India. I am a software engineer by profession and the founder of the Humans For Earth initiative. It's a photoblog on Instagram that covers stories and aims to amplify the voices of people who are striving to battle climate change and save the planet by adopting sustainable lifestyles. What types of blogs do you post?

When did you start your blog?

I started a blog in March 2021 with the single mission and goal to connect people and help bring them forward on a common platform where they can share their stories about how they are saving their planet in their own small, common, simple ways. We live in a crucial age where people, animals, and plants are losing their habitat, lives, and livelihoods to recurring disasters induced due to climate change. We see them in the news, we hear them on social media, the news is everywhere. The time to act is now. Keeping these things in mind, I thought "Why not start a photoblog and leverage the power of social media to spread awareness and connect people about how they can save the planet and make a huge impact in their own, small little ways by adopting sustainable lifestyles.

The one thing that makes my blog different from the others, lies in the fact that we cover the opinions of common people. We ask them a simple question: "How climate change has impacted their lives" , "What it means to switch to a sustainable lifestyle" , and "How all of the fancy policies and laws about climate change and protecting the environment are impacting their localities and neighborhoods. So far we have managed to cover 6 continents of the planet, barring Antarctica. Well, we hope to get a story from there pretty soon.

But our mission and goal is to cover as many stories as we can so that we can give a platform to the common person of this planet, to come up and speak to the governments of the world that the time to act and save the planet is now.

What is your favorite thing about blogging?

The thing that I love the most about blogging is the fact that I get to meet and cover new stories every day and see how inspiring each of them are in their own, little ways. For example, I covered a story about two boys from my own country, India, who are distributing notebooks made out of waste paper to underprivileged kids. This forum has also given me the opportunity to connect with like-minded scientists and young changemakers who are striving hard to change the planet.

What are some tips you would give someone that is wanting to start their own blog?

Well, well, well, so now let me discuss some tips about blogging. My first tip to all the young, aspiring bloggers is to find a mission or one goal/topic that you are very passionate about. Remember, if you are passionate about it, you will never get bored of working on it. The second tip would be initially there are chances that your growth might be slow and you might not reach your target of the number of followers you'd like to reach and connect, but I would say hold on. You have to be extremely patient and keep on working on your message to the people around you. And lastly, don't forget to connect with similar bloggers who are already in your field of choice. They can give you some pretty cool tips about how to start with blogging, what to do, what not to do, and etc. The idea is to relax, blog what your heart wants to blog, and share your story with people.
