RESILIENCY UPDATES

THE COMMUNITY HUB IS OPEN My favorite part of the Black Resiliency Hub is how instantly comfortable and at home I feel every time I walk through the doors. The welcoming atmosphere, genuine sense of community, and supportive environment create a space where I feel valued, connected, and encouraged to be my authentic self. That feeling of belonging makes the Hub more than just a workplace; it is a place where relationships are built, resilience is strengthened, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. - Mayah J

The Hub has a lounge, coffee bar, co-working space, mini market, conference room, a place to record podcasts, a growing library, a small outdoor space to gather your thoughts, and community resouorces. We hope this is a space you can come and dream, get work done, heal, have conversations, and build belonging within the community. We provide navigation services, distribution of food & life-saving items, and offer trainings, workshops, and a 15-week program, B3 (Being, Belonging & Building). We are all unique beings; we all need a sense of belonging, and we are all created with purpose and the ability to build! Location: 2168 Esplanade Chico, CA 95926 Hours: Tuesday - Friday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Phone: Text/Call 530-907-7882 You can host small gatherings and meetings in this space; just reach out to admin@blackrp.org

NEW TWO FARMS!

New Two Farms Brings Traveling Petting Zoo to Oakdale Heights Elementary Last week, New Two Farms visited Oakdale Heights Elementary School with its traveling petting zoo, giving students a fun and hands-on way to learn about animals, agriculture, and farm life. During the visit, students met several friendly farm animals, including pigs, goats, lambs, chickens, and even a tortoise. Many students were excited to see the animals up close, ask questions, and learn how each animal is cared for on the farm. The visit gave students more than just a fun break from their regular school day. It helped them better understand where food comes from and why animals and farming are important. Experiences like this can help young people build respect for animals, nature, and the people who work in agriculture.

I think voting matters because it gives people a voice in what happens in their community. Even though I cannot vote until I am 18, I can still learn about local issues, ask questions, volunteer, and pay attention to decisions that affect schools, parks, safety, roads, and programs for families. When more people vote, more voices are heard, and leaders can understand what the community really needs. Learning about voting now helps me become an informed adult who can speak up, make good choices, and help make positive changes in the future. In the Hub app, you can learn about who does what. The app is launching soon!

INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT MBSAT? Mindfulness-Based Substance Awareness Training MBSAT is a youth prevention program that helps students understand substance use, decision-making, peer pressure, and how outside influences can affect their choices. The program focuses on awareness, not shame, and helps young people build real-life skills like impulse control, emotional regulation, coping strategies, and self-awareness. MBSAT can be offered through group workshops, classroom sessions, community-based youth groups, and partnerships with schools or organizations. It is designed for middle and high school students and is an education and prevention program, not therapy or clinical treatment. To sign up or learn more, email: support@blackrp.org

THE HUB - APP OUR APP CONNECTS YOU TO LOCAL, ART, BUSINESS, CULTURAL, CIVIC INFORMATION, YOUTH RESOURCES AND RECOVERY RESOURCES

Ife Sainte, our outreach coordinator, had an opportunity to sit down with Leslie Layton and share his experience here in Butte County and what he’s hoping to build with the community. Check out the article and leave us a comment about what you would like to see happen in the community!

Launch date: Fall 2026

A note from Ciara: Being young, it makes sense to want to go out and try new things, but it’s very important that we put safety first. When trying new things, you wanna make sure you’re doing it with people you feel safe with and in a comfortable environment. Often, people may feel pressured to do new things, whether it’s sexual or has to do with drug intake, it’s important to be able to say no, and being around people who will hear your no. A moment of fun can turn into a lifelong consequence.
