Picton’s iconic Railsail attraction is in danger of being confined to the history books as volunteer numbers dwindle. The 41-year-old attraction has survived on the services of local volunteers who have provided the facility with train drivers and station workers. But with time catching up on the current crop, Railsail is calling out for some new blood to keep the operation going. A Railsail spokesperson says driving the electric engine or running the station is not an onerous task, and can be quickly learnt by anybody. The attraction celebrates its 41st birthday on Sunday, and Railsail says it would be a sad day if it was the last.

year’s Marlborough regional Rockquest competition, and opened for New Zealand band ‘Opshop’ in Nelson earlier this year. MMIT tutor Craig Agnew says the students have been very dedicated to expanding
their knowledge. “I’ve seen them come a long way on the programme this year. To see them now releasing their first album makes me extremely happy and proud of what they’ve achieved.�
