Major support for theatre
By Jacob Page Some major Marlborough identities have come out in support of the new ASB Theatre as the project enters a new phase. Former Blenheim and Marlborough mayor Leo McKendry, accountant Mark Peters and Marlborough Girls’ College drama teacher Denise Moran have all backed the new theatre as fundraising efforts continue. Leo says Marlborough will be “the envy of many small towns” once the $22 million ASB
Theatre is opened in February. Leo says while detractors only focus their attention on the building cost, the benefits for the town long term are limitless. “We will be the envy of many small towns with this facility,” Leo says. “I really admire those close to the project who have spent so much time in making the vision come to life.”
