Mandy-Rae Krack, Free Diver and Multi-Media Representative - an Inspiring Woman of Business Mandy-Rae Krack has spent much of her professional career descending, but she has found that the best way to move forward in business as a woman is to help lift those like her up.

Mandy-Rae, a 7-time World-Record Freediver who built a career out of training people to Freedive spoke at the Campbell

River Mirror Women of Business 2020 event on March 5.

Mandy-Rae spent her whole adult career in a male dominated industry but says that she feels fortunate to have had male coworkers that treated her as an equal.

She also notes that most of the women she met made a point of encouraging

I thought that was very gracious and did the same when the next person broke my record”.

Freediving is a sport where divers descend to incredible depths on a single breath. Freediving is essentially deep snorkeling. On one breath people see how deep they can go, how long they can hold their breath, or how many lengths they can swim underwater in a pool. MandyRae’s records include a No-Limits dive to 136m/447ft (that made her the deepest women in the world) as well as a static breath-hold of 6-minutes and 25-seconds.

“It feels peaceful underwater, like I’m meant to be there. This is partly because we are all born with Mammalian reflexes.

Reflexes that we share with whales, seals and dolphins. Freedive training helps to bring out and strengthen those reflexes.”

In 2006 Mandy-Rae found herself devoting more time to Freediving and joined Performance Freediving International (PFI), a company formed by her coach Kirk Krack in 2000.

Mandy-Rae started to work full-time for PFI in 2006, travelling around the world as one of their instructors. “It led me on a lot of amazing adventures that I’d never thought I’d be on. I was part of documentary film The Cove, which won an Academy Award in 2010, and exposed the horrific nature of dolphin hunt. I was part of the GoPro video Whale Fantasia, worked with David Blaine, have been on the Oprah show and have trained many high end athletes for companies like RedBull and B2Ten.” After her daughter was born in 2010, Mandy-Rae took on a more of an administrative role at PFI. She handled the company’s marketing, course logistics and customer service responsibilities. “I really loved the creativity of marketing work and hope to use that knowledge in my future employment. ” And so in July of 2019 Mandy-Rae started a new career as a Multi-Media Marketing Consultant with Black Press Media. She looks forward to working with local entrepreneurs, developing lasting relationships and using her marketing knowledge to help grow their business.

Michelle is originally from North western Ontario where she married her junior high sweet heart and raised her children. In 2011 Michelle opened and ran her own restaurant, decor store and catering business while volunteering on numerous non profit organizations boards.

In 2015 the family relocated to Indonesia where they resided until 2017.

While there Michelle opened a restaurant and volunteered around the community.

A year ago they joined the amazing community in beautiful Campbell River. After 26 years in the service industry Michelle knows it’s what she’s meant to do.

Marcela has always had a love for animals – especially aquatic animals and fish - and being outdoors, so pursuing a career at a doctor of veterinary medicine came as an easy choice. She graduated from the Universidad Austral de Chile and started in the aquaculture industry in 2007 first in Chile, and now in Canada, here in Campbell River. In her current role as Fish Health Manager, she has a broad area of responsibility, ranging from overseeing the health and welfare of Cermaq’s fish at their ocean farm sites, to compliance, animal husbandry, nutrition and disease prevention. Outside of work, Marcela enjoys spending time with her family. Her husband Rodrigo is also a veterinarian and shares Marcela’s passion for animals.Together, they have two beautiful daughters – Magdalena and Florencia – who inspire Marcela to do her best in everything she does.

Volunteering has been my constant companion through-out life. At times I volunteered to gain career skills, and other times to support my children’s sports or artistic endeavors. I have volunteered for causes I am passionate about and to make our community a better place. I used to believe that volunteering was something one does for others; I now understand that I have received so much more in return for my effort! I have made wonderful friends, spent quality time with my children doing what they love, traveled to amazing places, and gained skills and experience that supported my career.
