Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas Have yourself a merry little Christmas, Let your heart be light From now on, our troubles will be out of sight Have yourself a merry little Christmas, Make the Yule-tide gay, From now on, our troubles will be miles away.

Here we are as in olden days, happy golden days of yore. Faithful friends who are dear to us gather near to us once more. Through the years we all will be together If the Fates allow Hang a shining star upon the highest bough. And have yourself a merry little Christmas now.

Bells Will Be Ringing Bells Will Be Ringing Bells will be ringing, the glad, glad news; Oh, what a Christmas, to have the blues; My baby’s gone; I have no friends; To wish me greetings, once again; Choirs will be singing, Silent Night Oh, Christmas Carols, by candlelight; Please come home for Christmas; Please come home for Christmas; If not for Christmas, by New Year’s Night;

Friends and relations; Send salutations; Just as sure as the stars shine above; This is Christmas, Christmas my dear; The time of year to be with the one that you love; Then will you tell me, you’ll never more roam; Christmas and New Year will find you home; There’ll be no more sorrow; No grief or pain; ‘Cause I’ll be happy that it’s Christmas once again

Joy to the World

Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! the Savior reigns; Let men their songs employ; while fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessing flow far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found. He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove the glories of His righteousness, and wonders of His love, and wonders of His love, and wonders, wonders of His love

Away in a Manger

Away in a manger no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus Laid down His sweet head. The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus Asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, The poor baby wakes, But little Lord Jesus no crying he makes,

I love Thee Lord Jesus, Look down from the sky, And stay by my cradle Till morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay Close by me forever, And love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children In thy tender care, And fit us for Heaven, To live with Thee there.

May Christmas and the new year bring wonderful moments to you all. Season’s Greetings to all in our community! DISTRICT OF HOUSTON 3367 – 12th Street Phone: 250-845-2238 Email: doh@houston.ca www.houston.ca

All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth

Everybody stops and stares at me These two teeth are gone as you can see I don’t know just who to blame for this catastrophe! But my one wish on Christmas Eve is as plain as it can be! All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see, my two front teeth! Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could wish you “Merry Christmas.”

It seems so long since I could say, “Sister Susie sitting on a thistle!” Gosh oh gee, how happy I’d be, if I could only whistle (thhhh, thhhh) All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, see, my two front teeth. Gee, if I could only have my two front teeth, then I could wish you “Merry Christmas!”

Blue Christmas

I’ll have a blue Christmas without you; I’ll be so blue thinking about you. Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree Won’t mean a thing if you’re not here with me.

I’ll have a blue Christmas, that’s certain; And when that blue heartache starts hurting, You’ll be doing all right with your Christmas of white, But I’ll have a blue, blue Christmas.

Frosty the Snowman Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul, with a corncob pipe and a button nose, and two eyes made out of coal.

Down to the village, with a broomstick in his hand, Running here and there all around the square saying, Catch me if you can.

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale, they say, he was made of snow but the children know how he came to life one day.

He led them down the streets of town Right to the traffic cop. And he only paused a moment when he heard him holler “Stop!”

There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found for when they placed it on his head, he began to dance around. O, Frosty the snowman was as alive as he could be, and the children say he could laugh and play just the same as you and me. Frosty the snowman knew the sun was hot that day, so he said, “Let’s run and we’ll have some fun now before I melt away.”

For Frosty the snowman had to hurry on his way, but he waved goodbye saying, “Don’t you cry, I’ll be back again some day.” Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Look at Frosty go. Thumpetty thump thump, Thumpety thump thump, Over the hills of snow.

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow On a one-horse open sleigh, Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way; Bells on bob-tail ring, Making spirits bright, What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight Jingle bells, jingle bells, Jingle all the way! O what fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh A day or two ago, I thought I’d take a ride, And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side; The horse was lean and lank; Misfortune seemed his lot; He got into a drifted bank, And we, we got upsot. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago, The story I must tell I went out on the snow And on my back I fell; A gent was riding by In a one-horse open sleigh, He laughed as there I sprawling lie, But quickly drove away. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh. Now the ground is white Go it while you’re young, Take the girls tonight And sing this sleighing song; Just get a bob-tailed bay Two-forty as his speed Hitch him to an open sleigh And crack! you’ll take the lead. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer You know Dasher and Dancer And Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid And Donner and Blitzen. But do you recall The most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer) Had a very shiny nose (like a light bulb) And if you ever saw it (saw it) You would even say it glows (like a flash light) All of the other reindeer (reindeer) Used to laugh and call him names (like Pinochio) They never let poor Rudolph (Rudolph) Play in any reindeer games (like Monopoly)

Then one foggy Christmas Eve Santa came to say (Ho Ho Ho) Rudolph with your nose so bright Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight? Then all the reindeer loved him (loved him) And they shouted out with glee (yippee) “Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer (reindeer) You’ll go down in history!” (like Columbus)

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen From Satan’s power and might.” O tidings of comfort and joy,

God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen, Let nothing you dismay; Remember Christ, our Saviour, Was born on Christmas day, To save us all from Satan’s power When we were gone astray. O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy. The shepherds at those tidings Rejoiced much in mind, And left their flocks a-feeding, In tempest, storm, and wind: And went to Bethlehem straightway, The Son of God to find. O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

In Bethlehem, in Jewry, This blessed Babe was born, And laid within a manger, Upon this blessed morn; That which His Mother Mary, Did nothing take in scorn. O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

And when they came to Bethlehem Where our dear Saviour lay, They found Him in a manger, Where oxen feed on hay; His Mother Mary kneeling down, Unto the Lord did pray. O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

From God our Heavenly Father, A blessed Angel came; And unto certain Shepherds Brought tidings of the same: How that in Bethlehem was born The Son of God by Name. O tidings of comfort and joy, Comfort and joy, O tidings of comfort and joy.

Now to the Lord sing praises, All you within this place, And with true love and brotherhood Each other now embrace; “Fear not,” then said the Angel, This holy tide of Christmas “let nothing you affright, All other doth deface. A Holly Jolly Christmas

Have a holly jolly Christmas, it’s the best time of the year. I don’t know if there’ll be snow but have a cup of cheer. Have a holly jolly Christmas, and when you walk down the street Say hello to friends you know

and everyone you meet. Oh, Ho, the mistletoe hung where you can see. Somebody waits for you, kiss her once for me. Have a holly, jolly Christmas, and in case you didn’t hear. O, by golly, have a holly jolly Christmas this year.

The Christmas Song

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Jack Frost nipping at your nose, Yuletide carols being sung by a choir, And folks dressed up like Eskimos. Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe, Help to make the season bright. Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, Will find it hard to sleep tonight.

They know that Santa’s on his way; He’s loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh. And every mother’s child is going to spy, To see if reindeer really know how to fly. And so I’m offering this simple phrase, To kids from one to ninety-two, Although its been said many times, many ways, Merry Christmas to you!

A Marshmallow World It’s a marshmallow world in the winter, When the snow comes to cover the ground, It’s the time for play, it’s a whipped cream day, I wait for it all year round. Those are marshmallow clouds being friendly, In the arms of the evergreen trees, And the sun is red like a pumpkin head, It’s shining so your nose won’t freeze. The world is your snowball, see how it grows, That’s how it goes, whenever it snows, The world is your snowball just for a song, Get out and roll it along.

It’s a yum-yummy world made for sweethearts, Take a walk with your favourite girl, It’s a sugar date, what if spring is late, In winter, it’s a marshmallow world. Silver Bells City sidewalk, busy sidewalks Dressed in holiday style. In the air there’s A feeling of Christmas. Children laughing, people passing, Meeting smile after smile, And on every street corner you’ll hear: Silver bells, silver bells, It’s Christmas time in the city. Ring-a-ling, hear them ring, Soon it will be Christmas day.

City street lights, Even stop lights, Blink a bright red and green, As the shoppers rush home With their treasures. Hear the snow crunch, See the kids bunch, This is Santa’s big scene, And above all this bustle you’ll hear: Silver bells, silver bells, It’s Christmas time in the city. Ring-a-ling, hear them ring, Soon it will be Christmas day.

White Christmas I’m dreaming of a white Christmas Just like the ones I used to know, When the treetops glisten And children listen To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas With every Christmas card I write. May your days be merry and bright, And may all your Christmases be white.

O Come, All Ye Faithful O Come All Ye Faithful Joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold Him, Born the King of Angels; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. All Hail! Lord, we greet Thee, Born this happy morning, O Jesus! for evermore be Thy name adored. Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing; O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.

O Sing, choirs of angels, Sing in exultation, Sing all that hear in heaven God’s holy word. Give to our Father glory in the Highest;

What Christmas Means To Me

When the Christmas time draws near We think of joys and Christmas cheer Of Santa with his reindeer and his sleigh

Are nothing but a token For if they don’t come filled with love, The Christmas spirit’s broken

But long ago, we should recall, The Bethlehem Babe was born for all To show the world the life, the truth, the way

Just singing Christmas carols and Just ringing Jingle Bells Means nothing if you do not know The story that it tells

The spirit of Christmas Is the spirit of Love It’s something that you cannot buy, It’s something from above

So, ‘midst the din and tinsel as you Trim the Christmas tree Let a newborn love enfold you Embrace you, uphold you; That’s the true idea of Christmas That’s what Christmas means to me

The First Noel The first Noel the angels did say Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep, On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, Born is the King of Israel.

And to follow the star wherever it went. This star drew nigh to the northwest, O’er Bethlehem it took it rest, And there it did both stop and stay Right over the place where Jesus lay. Then entered in those wise men three Full reverently upon their knee, And offered there in his presence Their gold, and myrrh, and frakincense.

They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. And by the light of that same star Three wise men came from country far; To seek for a king was their intent,

Then let us all with one accord Sing praises to our heavenly Lord; That hath made heaven and earth of naught, And with his blood mankind hath bought.

O Little Town Of Bethlehem O little town of Bethlehem, How still we see thee lie. Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent stars go by; Yet in thy dark streets shineth The everlasting Light; The hopes and fears of all the years Are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary, And, gathered all above While mortals sleep, the angels keep Their watch of wondering love. O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy birth. And praises sing to God the King. And peace to men on earth. How silently, how silently The wondrous gift is given! So God imparts to human hearts The blessings of His heaven.

No ear may hear His coming; But in this world of sin, Where meek souls will receive Him, Still The dear Christ enters in. Where children, pure and happy, Pray to the Blessed Child; Where misery cries out to thee, Son of the Mother mild; Where charity stands watching, And faith holds wide the door, The dark night wakes, the glory breaks, And Christmas comes once more. O Holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us, we pray; Cast out our sin and enter in; Be born in us today! We hear the Christmas angels The great glad tidings tell; O come to us, abide with us, Our Lord Emmanuel!

Happy Holidays!

Good King Wenceslas Good King Wenceslas looked out On the feast of Stephen, When the snow lay round about, Deep and crisp and even. Brightly shown the moon that night, Though the frost was cruel, When a poor man came in sight, Gathering winter fuel. Hither, page, and stand by me. If thou know it telling: Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling? Sire, he lives a good league hence, Underneath the mountain, Right against the forest fence By Saint Agnes fountain. Bring me flesh, and bring me wine. Bring me pine logs hither. Thou and I will see him dine When we bear the thither. Page and monarch, forth they went,

Forth they went together Through the rude wind’s wild lament And the bitter weather. Sire, the night is darker now, And the wind blows stronger. Fails my heart, I know not how. I can go no longer. Ark my footsteps my good page, Tread thou in them boldly: Thou shalt find the winter’s rage Freeze thy blood less coldly. In his master’s step he trod, Where the snow lay dented. Heat was in the very sod Which the saint had printed. Therefore, Christian men, be sure, Wealth or rank possessing, Ye who now will bless the poor Shall yourselves find blessing.

It Came Upon the Midnight Clear It came upon the midnight clear, That glorious song of old, From angels bending near the earth, To touch their harps of gold: “Peace on the earth, good will to men, From heaven’s all gracious King;” The world in solemn stillness lay To hear the angels sing.

O ye, beneath life’s crushing load, Whose forms are bending low, Who toil along the climbing way, With painful steps and slow. Look now, for glad and golden hours Come swiftly on the wing, O rest beside the weary road, And hear the angels sing.

For lo! the days are hastening Still through the cloven skies on, By prophets seen of old, When with the ever circling they come, With peaceful wings unfurled; years, And still their heavenly music Shall come the time foretold, When the new heaven and floats O’er all the weary earth shall own world: Above its sad and lowly plains The Prince of Peace their They bend on hovering wing; King, And the whole world send And ever o’er its Babel back the song sounds The blessed angels Which now the angels sing. sing.

O Holy Night

O holy night, The stars are brightly shining; It is the night of Our dear Savior’s birth! Long lay the world In sin and error pining, Till He appeared And the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, The weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks A new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night divine, O night, O night divine! Led by the light of Faith Serenely beaming, With glowing hearts By His cradle we stand. So led by light of a star Sweetly gleaming, Here came the wise men From Orient land. The King of Kings lay thus In lowly manger,

In all our trials Born to be our Friend! He knows our need, To our weakness no stranger; Behold your King! Before the lowly bend! Behold your King! your King! Before Him bend. Truly He taught us To love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break For the slave is our brother And in His name All oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in Grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us Praise His holy name! Christ is the Lord, Oh praise His name forever, His pow’r and glory evermore proclaim His pow’r and glory Evermore proclaim.

Merry Christmas! Hope your Christmas is filled with warm thoughts and glad tidings. May those you love join you in celebrating this special time. From Chief, Council & Membership

What Child Is This? What Child is this, who laid to rest, On Mary’s lap is sleeping? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet While shepherds watch are keeping? This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing. Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. Why lies He in such mean estate Where ox and ass are feeding? Good Christian, fear: for sinners here, The silent Word is pleading. This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing. Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. Nails, spear, shall pierce Him through, The Cross be borne, for me, for you: Hail, hail, the Word made flesh, The Babe, the Son of Mary!

This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing. Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh; Come peasant, king to own Him. The King of Kings salvation brings; Let loving hearts enthrone Him. This, this is Christ the King Whom shepherds guard and angels sing. Haste, haste to bring Him laud, The Babe, the Son of Mary.
