Running with a puRpose | tears to hope Relay Run participants and supporters gathered at george Little park during indigenous peoples’ Day festivities on June 22 to honour the missing and murdered indigenous women and girls (MMiwg). starting from both prince Rupert and smithers on June 21 , runners continuously ran along hwy 16 in 10 km sections marked by photos of the MMiwg to congregate in terrace the following day for a ceremony. this is the first annual event by the newly formed tears to hope society who strive to create healthy, safe communities for First nations’ females and remind everybody that “she is somebody” to end any violence against women.
