Selling? Here’s how to get ready for your home’s inspection: 1. Make sure the attic, crawl space, hot water tank, furnace, etc are all easily accessible - move heavy furniture and stored items out of the way. 2. Turn on and off all light switches, open and shut all windows, check your caulking, make sure your taps don’t drip, make sure all fans are working. 3. Prune vegetation away from all buildings, ensure no soil within 6 inches of siding. 4. Leave all remote controls for garage door, fireplaces, ceiling fans, etc out and make sure they work properly. 5. Check your spinkler system function, as well as hot tub and pool if applicable. Change the furnace filter. Check smoke detectors and CO detector batteries and expiry dates. 6. Leave out operating manuals for any appliances or fixtures that may be challenging to operate. 7. Turn on utilities that you may have turned off - main water, power, natural and propane gas. 8. Leave the house during the inspection - give the inspector the space to do their work, and the buyers the freedom to investigate potential issues and problem solve.
