LAND TRAVEL Travelling north on Highway 19 Campbell River is 153 kilometres from Nanaimo or 264 kilometres from Victoria. If you prefer the scenic route, follow the Oceanside route signs along Highway 19A.
MOTORCOACH Bus services between Vancouver and Nanaimo operate as connecting shuttles. Passengers travel by BC Ferries as walk-on passengers, with connecting coach shuttles at each end of the route.

The Campbell River is a user-friendly river to experience the joy of catch and release. Fish for trout year round and pink salmon later in the summer.

The main fishing spots are easy to reach and the sandy pool sees anglers of all ages congregate and jockey for position to cast out lures or flies.
It began in 1924 with a group of anglers who returned to Campbell River each year in pursuit of the elusive Tyee, a Chinook salmon, 30 pounds or larger.
Where the Quinsam River enters the Campbell at times will have a heavy concentration of anglers. Between the bridges, is where most of the action takes place.
Tyee fishing is done quietly in a small, classic row boat. No motors are allowed in the Tyee pool. The rower will slip the boat into the currents and eddies while keeping a basic plug or spoon beating in the current.
In late September, the coho will be running and offers big action on a drift or fly rod. During the summer, Echo Lake can be fished with a fly or lure. Echo Lake is stocked twice a year with catchable sized trout. Traditionalists will want to check out the Tyee Club of BC located on Spit Road.

Campbell River is a Mountain Biker’s Paradise
The Beaver Lodge Lands are suitable for any level of fitness, or ability. Based in the middle of town and easily accessed from many points along Dogwood Street, you will find wide gravel paths, smooth and flowy single track, and a few tight and technical trails.
With hundreds of kilometers of amazing single track within minutes of town, it’s no wonder so many mountain bikers are attracted to Campbell River.
The Pump House Trail network is at the North end of town and includes lots of nice single track, some exposed rock bluffs and a bit of smooth double track through the trees. Most of these trails will be a bit much for the true beginner, but if you’re ready for a small challenge then the Pump House will suit you well. One of the original trails in this system is “Dean Martin” which makes the perfect single track connector from town to the

If your interests lean more towards the technical riding then there are many black diamond trails that will challenge your climbing and descending skills, not to mention your fitness. You can also assemble a loop that gives you a bit of everything including beautiful views of Discovery Passage and Quadra Island, all the while riding through some of the lushest forest and best single track anywhere. Whether it’s a one-hour ride or five-hour ride, you’ll love the variety. If you’re an adrenalin junkie then you will want to ride Menzies Mountain. This more recently built network is just ten minutes north of town and offers up some steep terrain where you will find a mix of natural and man made features. Menzies does have shuttle access if you have a 4x4, but if you prefer to earn your turns then approximately 90 minutes of steep climbing will have you at the top. These trails are all black diamond and not for the faint of heart.
Maps of the main trail networks are available at the local bike shops along with great trail advice. Drop in and get some trail tips, or join one of their group rides.

Snowden Demonstration Forest. The Snowden Forest trails include almost 100 km of single track, ideal for all levels of rider. The Lost Frog Loop and the Lost Lake Loop are made up of green and blue trails and are very suitable for a casual spin or a ride with the family.
In addition to these mountain bike areas, we also have Woods Creek, Area 51, Quadra Island and a couple cool Dirt Jump trails that are being developed rapidly.

popular-the Sayward Forest Canoe/ portage route is a 50 kilometre (30 mile) circuit encompassing 11 lakes, and takes approximately 3-4 days to complete the full circuit.
Campbell River is the gateway to the Discovery Islands group, an unparalleled paddling area. There’s nothing quite like a saltwater kayak for exploring remote islands and uninhabited coves.
We recommend doing the route counterclockwise from summer to early fall. Numerous B.C. Forest Service Recreation sites are located along the route that provide adequate overnight camping facilities.

hiking Canyon View Trail (6 kms) This is a well maintained loop trail that winds along the banks of the Campbell River. One highlight is an 80 foot suspension walkway that spans the canyon and offers spectacular views of rapids and spawning salmon. Ripple Rock Trail (8 kms) This trail starts off ina field, crosses over a suspension bridge, winds through the forest along sheltered Menzies Bay and up rock bluffs leading to some scenic view points of Seymour Narrows and Maud Island. The trail ends at the power lines that extend over Seymour Narrows, the site of the infamous Ripple Rock and the Ripple Rock explosion of 1958. This trail, 19 km north of Campbell River, is not recommended for small children.

Lady Falls (1 km) This easy 20 minute round trip walk to the falls is just past the Buttle Lake Campground on Highway 28. At the end of the path is a viewing platform directly across from the falls that receives some mist from the falls. Lower Myra Falls (1 km) Beautiful cascading waterfalls are the reward at the end of this short hike. You can c limb up and down the falls and swim in some of the calmer pools. Travel Highway 28 and take Westmin Road south to the Lower Myra Falls parking lot. Bedwell Lake Trail (approx 4 hours) Located in Strathcona Provincial Park this day use trail has an elevation gain of 600 metres. It ascends through a steep forested valley with some stairs and bridge crossings. At the top is a subalpine area with two lakes. Beware of the
presence of black bears in this area. Access the trailhead from the south end of Buttle Lake. Crest Mountain Trail (10 kms) This physically demanding trail is steep with an elevation change of 1300 metres, but the views of Kings Peak and Elkhorn Mountain make it well worth the effort. To get to the trailhead follow Highway 28. Chinese Mountains, Quadra Island (5kms) Chinese Mountains are well known on Quadra Island. A popular hiking destination; this is one landmark you won’t want to miss. Trails to the top of the south and north peaks access a network of hiking trails up and around Chinese Mountains and nearby Morte Lake. Elk Falls Provincial Park Located approximately 6 km west on Highway 28, this beautiful forested 1087 hectare park offers great views of the canyon and 25 metre waterfalls (from a viewpoint and the new suspension bridge). This popular recreation destination boasts many activities such as sightseeing, 6 kilometres of hiking trails, picnicking, camping and fishing. Visit the Quinsam Salmon Hatchery or the three waterfalls - the Moose, the Elk and Deer waterfalls with Elk Falls being the largest.

The park is home to the highest peaks of the Vancouver Island Ranges. From the Golden Hinde to Mount Albert Edward, people come from all over the world to explore this outdoor mecca. The park offers topography that ranges from inviting to downright scary. The main access to the Park is via Highway 28. The main access route
Crest Creek Crag is another favourite. The local climbing community maintains the routes regularly offering expert climbs and some routes for beginners. The Crest Creek climbing area is located near Crest Lake and Crest Creek on Hwy 28 (to Gold River). There are 19 crags; Black Crag, Pipeline Bluff, Narcissus Wall and Skid Row. Gravel roads and short hiking trails from the parking lot lead climbers to the crags.
