A Day in the Life of
Parksville
Contributing Photographers Randy Hall is a Vancouver Island photographer specializing in nature photography, whether it is capturing natural settings such as seascapes or forest landscapes or the plants and animals that inhabit this part of British Columbia. Some of Randy’s work is currently on display in Studio 2 at The Old Schoolhouse Art Centre (TOSH) in Qualicum Beach. Other images are available through Fine Art America. After many years of extensive travelling she is happy to now take her photographic creativeness from her home base of Vancouver Island.
Lissa Alexander is the editor of Oasis Magazine, published quarterly by the Parksville Qualicum Beach News. She is also the Marketing Co-ordinator at SOS. Lissa loves photographing people, particularly children, as their personalities shine through so brightly. Lissa has two children of her own, who are full of personality.
Lauren Collins is a full-time reporter and photographer with the Parksville Qualicum Beach News. In her free time, Lauren likes going out and exploring with her camera, especially when travelling. While Lauren enjoys shooting almost everything; her favourite is scenic and landscape shots.
Brian Argyle is a local freelance and event photographer, who also offers Lightroom and Photography instruction, workshops, tutoring and photo tours. See argylephoto. com
Peter McCully has been a broadcaster and publisher on both of Canada’s coasts and has owned a small newspaper and run an advertising agency along the way. Peter is an amateur photographer and has served as bass drummer for several Scottish Pipe Bands.
Michael Briones has been a journalist for over 35 years having worked in newspapers in Asia and in Canada. He currently covers the regional district beat and local sports for the Parksville Qualicum Beach News. He loves to take action shots and has won BC Yukon Community Newspaper Association sport photo awards and also a Canadian Community Newspaper award. Adam Kveton is an award-winning reporter/photographer working for the Parksville Qualicum Beach News. His photographic interests include late-night urban, long-exposure and night-sky photography, landscapes and portraiture. Day in the Life provided a great opportunity to meet some delightful people.

Proudly Managing Your Events Summer by the Sea Street Market Summer by the Sea Street Market is on Craig Street, Tuesday nights from June to August. The market is a true reflection of our community’s vibrant character. Craig street is alive with energy and filled with over 180 vendors. It’s a great weekday event and is popular with locals and visitors looking for a unique experience. With an eclectic mix of merchants, artisans, craftspeople, farmers, live entertainment and of course food vendors. There really is something for everyone! Business Achievement Awards Business Achievement Awards recognize and honour businesses that excel in our community. The annual event celebrates outstanding business success in Parksville and district. Residents and visitors are encouraged to nominate a deserving individual or business in one of six categories. A few of the categories include: Service Excellence, Young Professional of the Year and Large Business of the Year. The award recipients are announced at an Awards dinner held in March each year. Last year we had a record number of nominations, lots of interest from the community, great publicity and a sold-out awards ceremony. Managing the Awards represents a lot of work but it’s so worth it to see the finalists excitement!
Canada Day in Parksville
Canada Day in Parksville has been a tradition in our beautiful city for over 15 years. This special day is all about bringing our community together and is one of the largest celebrations on Vancouver Island. Residents and visitors gather for the festivities starting with the Shriners Pancake Breakfast followed by the popular street parade. It’s a day filled with family fun and entertainment. There’s food trucks, magic tricks, face painting, air brush tattoos, feather extensions for hair, bouncy castles, rides, kite displays, teddy bear toss, watermelon eating contest and birthday cake and its all in the Parksville Community Park. To complete the day there’s the grand finale in the evening with live entertainment and fireworks sponsored by Thrifty Foods.
