Business Awards of Distinction This year, the judging process received 194 nominations sent in by the general public, local businesses and the community. From the nominations received, we asked those nominees to complete a nomination package in order to be considered a ‘qualified’ nominee. Each nomination package was based on the specific award criteria and category that the nominee had been nominated in. The ‘qualified’ nominees who successfully completed their nomination package, then moved forward through the judging process. A diverse group of local business leaders, former winners of awards and community leaders made up the independent judging committee. Each judge reviewed the nominations across all award categories and scored each nomination independently on each of the award criteria. It was a very rigorous review and judging process to arrive at the highest scored nomination in each award category. It’s because of this formal nomination process and the intensive judging and review of nominations received that has ensured high standards throughout leading to the announcement of the 2016 award recipients. We would like to take a moment to thank the members of this year’s judging committee for all their hard work and time.

Thank You Judging Committee

CRAIG WILLETT

2016 Chamber Board of Governors Award Recipient The Campbell River Chamber has selected Craig Willet, President & Owner Bailey Western Star Trucks, as the recipient of the 2016 Board of Governors Award for the Business Awards of Distinction. We are pleased to honor Craig as this year’s recipient and on behalf of the Chamber Directors and look forward to celebrating and honoring your success this evening. In speaking with long-standing employees, some nearing 30 years with the local business, they speak highly in recognition of Craig’s hard work, commitment to high quality, and dedication to maintaining the strong family values that made Bailey Western Star a Campbell River success story. Craig started in the business on the ground floor, working his way up from

shipping and receiving to parts and then the other key parts of the business. In addition to staying focused on the business, he worked hard to obtain his business degree from the University of Victoria and continues to be a lifelong learner, seeking out opportunities to gain new skills and knowledge to bring back and share with his team. His staff comment that he is a great person and easy to work for, a fair and generous person. His generosity extends far into the sports and wellness organizations in our community, where his philanthropic nature touches many lives including youth in soccer, hockey, skiing and racing. His personal commitment to Campbell River Hospice House has played a significant role in the development of their new home. to Craig believes in giving back

to the community that gives so much to him and his business. Owned and managed right here in Campbell River, Bailey Western Star Trucks has been a thriving local business since 1977. Covering Courtney to Port Hardy, the Willet family business is a full service Western Star and Freightliner Truck dealer, dedicated to professionals in the transportation industry. Craig loves his job and loves the business. He lives the job working six days a week but still finding time to enjoy the occasional fishing expedition and time out on the
