MAIN EVENT
AROUND TOWN
Agrifair Celebrates Canada’s 150th Birthday Agrifair is back and better than ever. Dubbed “the best little country fair on earth,” this year will feature special attractions to honour Canada’s 150th birthday. From August 4-6, the Abbotsford Exhibition Park will transform into a festival that guarantees fun for the whole family. Along with the expected rides of the midway, games, and live entertainment, attendees can also anticipate new attractions that are both thrilling and shamelessly Canadian. “As part of celebrating Canada’s 150 we have added a whole area saluting Canadian Military with representation from the Cold War, WWI, WWII, and Afghanistan.
There will be over ten military vehicles including a refurbished WWII plane,” says Melanie Kish, Fair Manager. There will also be free birthday cake on Saturday at noon, hosted by The Fraser Valley Antique Farm Machinery Association and Safeway. And what’s a Canadian celebration without hockey? “How Canadian are you? Sign up and prove it! We have a street hockey tournament lined up. Both the Abbotsford Police and Langley RCMP have already signed up,” says Kish. Returning Agrifair favourites include Dan the One Man Band, who plays up to six instruments
at once, and Canadian Wrestling featuring “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith Jr. Shooting Star Amusements is also returning with their family friendly ConeZone with its educational road safety program, and the Country Horse Classic program including wheelbarrow races. New this year is the Laughing Logger show, which includes an interactive area, and more food trucks than ever before. The Fraserway RV Family Fun Building will host a variety of new and favourite vendors, including
story-time with Anna and Elsa from Frozen. Kids can also enjoy Lego play times and competitions, as well as free crafts, a rock wall climbing, mini golf, and Science World shows. The main stage will showcase multi-cultural acts on Friday, a salute to Canadian Rock with Jerry Doucette on Saturday, and a Christian concert on Sunday with the band Kutless. The motorsports arena features the Global FMX bike superstars, Crushzilla - a 30-foot tall fire-breathing dragon. If that’s not enough, the hugely popular Demolition Derby is back! Agrifair runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. (gates close at 10 p.m.) each day. Admission is $12 for adults, $10 for students/seniors, and free for kids 10 and under. A three-day wristband is $15.

Using a sifter or fine strainer, sift the flour over the top of the batter and gently fold into the batter until it is just incorporated. It’s best to do this in two steps, using half the flour at a time as it ensures the flour all gets evenly mixed into the batter. Pour batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle prepared strawberries evenly over the top. Some berries will naturally sink into the delicate batter during the baking process.

CHIC
Call it summer chic – the ability to look cool even when the temperature is rising. Audrey Hepburn knew how to do it. She chose classically simple designs and paired them with a strong accessory or two – a multi-strand pearl necklace, a bold pair of sunglasses or a structured handbag, for example. A modern interpretation might add an embellishment or two, but classic, elegant cuts

never go out of style. Looking for something a little more carefree? A fitted sundress in a bold pattern does the trick and is perfect for a boat cruise or drinks on the restaurant patio. Men can look dapper by following the same style points and choosing, for example, a tailored jacket and crisp white trousers. Add a pocket handkerchief for a touch of flair.

CARE
Why Choose a Trillium Home for Your Loved One? When you choose a Trillium home, you’re choosing our approach to care, which extends beyond your loved one. We’re here to ease both your loved one and you through the transition, ensuring the process is as simple and manageable as possible. Here’s what you can expect when you choose a Trillium home.
1. TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVED ONE Whether you first connect with us via phone or email, we will inquire about your loved one, from their health to their personality. We like you to paint a picture for us, so we better understand their preferences and needs, your experiences as their caregiver, and where they would feel most at home.
2. HEAR OUR RECOMMENDATIONS We know our communities best because they’re our home away from home,
which helps us make informed, trusted recommendations for where your loved one would feel most comfortable and at home.
3. TOUR THE COMMUNITIES We encourage you and your loved one to tour the homes we recommend and experience the communities for yourselves. We’ll be there to greet you and answer all of your questions. We want you to get a feel for the home, so we’ll show you every nook and cranny, from the rooms to the outdoor havens and amenities.
4. CHOOSE A COMMUNITY After you’ve chosen a community, we will iron out the intake logistics with you, from scheduling a move-in date to coordinating a physician if your loved one is without one. We’ll address all of the details like whether or not your loved one would like their room furnished
and how to prepare for and respond to resistance.
5. MOVE IN We welcome all of our residents with a gift in their rooms, and we do our best to help them settle in comfortably. And, to ensure their ongoing comfort, we meet with you, your loved one and their physician every few months to reevaluate their care plan and review how they’re

Most arm pain comes from the shoulder as the muscles in the rotator cuff get tight and contribute to both local and referral pain down the arm. The rotator cuff has four muscles that work together to control the

Summer activities keep us feeling happy and healthy. However, everyone from softball players to casual gardeners must remember that one wrong throw or one awkward bag of fertilizer is all it takes to cause pain in your arm and rob any activity of pleasure.
Acupuncture can be a great tool to help treat shoulder pain. For acute injuries, I find most people get relief within a couple of treatments. For more chronic injuries, the use of trigger point injections or prolotherapy can help strengthen and repair a shoulder joint after damage. Physiotherapy is another excellent way to help strengthen and rehabilitate the shoulder to prevent future injuries.
