President’s Message I wish to extend my deep appreciation to our community and surrounding communities for the support that you give to our Fair. To our local and out of town businesses, big and small, who give generously year after year towards this large family event. Your support is crucial to the success of our Fair.

To all our volunteers, individual and groups, of all ages, “Thank You”. We could not do without you! The work bees leading up to the Fair and of course throughout all of Fair weekend, we could not manage without your help.

We are happy to announce that Helicopter Rides will be back in 2017. This is a very generous donation from Canadian Helicopters in Smithers. We are expanding the Lawn Mower Races and of course there are always new activities and entertainment in the Children’s Festival area. New in 2017, will be “Randa’s Rascals”, Dog Obedience and Agility, visiting from Vanderhoof. Randa

will be set up in our Children’s area.

Plan to take in the Heritage demonstrations that are set up in the Exhibit Hall. Check the gate program for scheduled times.

I would like to commend the Purebred Livestock Breeders who come from great distances, who have helped us build our Fair to what it is today.

We have a full weekend of fun, so be sure to take time to visit the many events that are planned.

We encourage you to exhibit at the Fair and to all those attending, we wish you a great time.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all those visitors from out of town. We hope you enjoy all that is offered for your participation and entertainment.

Hints For Exhibitors FIRST AND FOREMOST BE A GOOD EXHIBITOR BY BEING A GOOD SPORTSMAN: Be on time with your exhibits. Late openings are viewed as a management problem when in fact it may relate to late exhibits.

Follow the schedule explicitly. If rules or schedules are not clear, obtain clarification before, not after, judging.

Do not blame the show committee if they fail to bring to your attention that you have entered incorrectly. This is your

responsibility.

Label entries with the correct variety name, or identification such as early or late, even if the schedule doesn’t request it.

This adds to the educational value of the fair.

Competent people familiar with that division will do the judging. If through some fault of the show committee an entry is left, missed, or is disqualified through error, the exhibitor is entitled to a refund of the entry fee.

Agriculture & Heritage Is Our Fair The Fall Fair strives to keep the history and culture of the Lakes District alive and strong.

When you visit the Fair, you will see many aspects of the heritage of Burns Lake and the Lakes District.

While visiting the Exhibit Hall, you will find many examples of local preserves, baking, garden produce, flowers, crafts and needlework including quilting. Be sure to check out the Historical Information Signs

in the back room of the Exhibit building that give a brief history of the original settlements and trails of the Lakes District. These signs are all sponsored by local residents.

Be sure to visit Frank Bergen’s large trailer located on the grounds with his display of hundreds of pictures and stories of the pioneers of this area depicting the lifestyle that they lived.

At the Main Stage, you will see traditional dances of the area performed by the Highland Dancers, our Traditional Native Dancers and then you can take part in a good old fashioned Family Dance on Saturday evening.

Heritage and Agriculture go hand in hand and in the end, they are our culture.

Light Horse Show General Event Rules Each competitor must know the rules prior to entry.

Where not noted in this prize list, HCBC rules will be followed. Show Management has sole discretion as to application of rules.

This event is open to all breeds and grade horses.

Helmets are mandatory for all junior riders and are recommended for all riders.

No exhibitor under the age of 19 shall be permitted to show a stallion in the TCSC Fall Fair Light Horse Show.

All patterns will be posted.

All horses exhibited must be free from contagious disease and sound. The Show Management, including the judge, may order the immediate removal of any animal deemed to be sick or lame, to be excused from the remainder of the show with no refund.

Unsportsmanlike/Unprofessional Conduct: When an exhibitor and/or their representative displays unsportsmanlike conduct to any exhibitor or show management, and/or inhumane treatment of a horse while on show grounds, the Show Management at its discretion, may disqualify such individual(s) from the remainder of the show. Abuse will not be tolerated. No refunds of any kind will be made.

All protests and complaints must be made, in writing, to the Show Management by the end of the day, accompanied by a $50 cheque which will be returned if complaint is upheld.

Dogs must be under control at all times and must be on a leash. At no time will any dogs be permitted in arenas.

The Show Management reserves the right to change schedules, arenas, or times at their discretion.

For safety, no cantering your horse outside the arenas, no doubling, and use caution around spectators, etc.

Show Office and Entries The Show Office will open one hour prior to the start of the show, and will remain open until the final class ends.

One entry form required for every Horse/Exhibitor combination.

Every Horse/Exhibitor combination must pay a $10 office fee (office fee waived for Future Equestrians class and for TCSC members).

Show Management reserves the right to cancel, combine or split classes due to number of entries.

Cancelled classes will be refunded.

There will be no refunds for any reason other than classes cancelled by Show Management.

A $50 charge will be applied to all NSF cheques.

Entries received with an NSF Cheque will not be considered “on time” and will be assessed postentry rates.

Post entries will be accepted until the start of the class prior. The Show Secretary will determine when that time has arrived. The Show Secretary’s decision will be final in this regard.

Errors or illegible entry forms are the responsibility of the exhibitor.

Horse Ages Junior Horse - Horses 5 & under, in Western classes may be ridden 2-handed in a snaffle or hackamore, or 1-handed in a bridle Senior Horse - Horses 6 & over, in Western classes must be ridden 1-handed in a bridle Walk-Jog/Trot and Reining classes - may be ridden 1 or 2 handed in any legal headgear, regardless of age of horse Future Equestrians (Leadline) – Free Entry The Future Equestrians class is open to all beginner riders who require someone else to control the horse. Horse should be shown in a bridle and a halter – the handler shall control the horse with the halter and lead at all times; the rider should hold the reins. Experienced handlers please! Riders must wear helmets (bike helmets okay).

Future Equestrians (Walk-Jog/Trot) – Free Entry Rider in first year of showing. Must be able to control horse without a leader. Helmets required for youth riders.

Pre-registration required on horse show entry form.

No entry fee, rider must have signed waiver on file.

No cross entry except Future Equestrians. LIMITED ENTRIES. More info at http://burnslakesaddleclub.weebly. com.

Camping and Stabling Panel pen rentals are limited and must be prebooked on the Entry Form; fees must accompany the Entry Form.

Panels can be rented at $10 for 4 panels per day/ night use ($5 extra per additional panel). Panels must be in designated area.

Panel rental deposit of $50 must accompany entry ON A SEPARATE CHEQUE. Deposit will be returned when panels have been returned to lock-up undamaged.

Walk, jog and lope are exhibited during the pattern. Horse is judged. Trail Horse is Western tack and attire. InHand Trail is for Horses age 2 and under (no cross entry with Youth or Senior). Whips not permitted.

Ranch Riding Horses are shown in Western tack and attire. This is a pattern class. Each horse will work individually to perform required and optional maneuvers which include walk, trot, lope both ways, extended trot and lope one direction; as well as stops, and backups. Optional maneuvers may include side pass, 360 turns or more, lead changes, ground poles. AQHA rules apply (SHW416 to SHW419.7, excluding SHW416.2, at www.aqha.com).

Ranch Riding - Senior - AQHA Pattern 2

Reining Classes National Reining Horse Association rules will be followed unless otherwise specified. All ages horse and rider, shown in Western tack and attire, to perform a pre-posted pattern. Modified patterns may be ridden one or two handed in any legal headgear. Bit checks will be at the discretion of the judge. Copies of reining patterns may be viewed at the BLSC website at http://burnslakesaddleclub. weebly.com under Events.

Reining Beginner (modified) Western or English tack and attire. BVR Super Green Pattern SG-2 (jog and trot circles). This class is for a horse/ rider combination which has never shown in any Reining class before Jan. 1st of current year.

Reining Intermediate (modified) BVR Pattern C-2 Reining Advanced (modified) PGRHA Pattern E Never Won a Buckle Reining (modified) PGRHA Pattern H - Non Pro rider; horse/rider combination never to have won a buckle in any reining competition. Buckle is for 1st place only.

Ties for 1st place will require a run-off. Entry Fee for NWABR $25.

If there is a tie for the high point award itself, the tie will be broken by the number of firsts from the qualifying classes, then the number of seconds and so on. If the two exhibitors have equal numbers of same placings in the qualifying classes, the exhibitors will be named Co-Champions and a coin will be flipped to determine the winner of any prizes.

Western Horsemanship Classes Horses are shown in Western tack and attire, and will be asked to perform a pre-posted pattern.

May also be shown on the rail. Walk, jog and lope will be required unless otherwise stated. Rider is judged on seat, hands and basic position, and on ability to control and show the horse.

In case of a tie, total points will be divided equally between the parties (Example 1: with 6 or more riders in the class, 2nd and 3rd tie - a total of 9 points is divided for 4.5 points each; Example 2: with 4 horses in the class, 3 riders tie for 2nd - 6 points are split for 2 points each).

Western Dressage Horses are shown in Western tack and attire. This is a pattern class. Caller is permitted. Horse should travel in a balanced, natural way. The horse should engage the hindquarters and use his back in accordance with its level of training. All competitors must wear properly fitted approved BSI or ASTM protective headgear with safety harness. HCBC Western Dressage rules apply (hcbc.com)

All exhibits must be made or grown by the exhibitor and not previously entered for competition in the Fair with the exception of Divisions I, II, III and X. All entries are to be entered on the official entry forms. Should the form not be long enough for all your entries, additional plain sheets may be used to list the rest of your entries.

Livestock and houseplants must be entered in the name of the owner. Livestock is to have been in the owner’s possession for a minimum of one month, plants for three months. (a) All exhibits are to be in the Exhibit Hall and ready for display at the Eagle Creek Fair Grounds between 8:30 am - 11:30 am on Friday, September 8, 2017. Judging will

commence at 1:00 pm sharp. (b) All livestock exhibits are to be on the grounds by 8:00 am, Saturday, September 9, 2017 (Friday arrivals are encouraged – no later than 9:00 pm). Judging will commence at 9:00 am sharp. (a) No exhibits are to be removed from the Exhibit Hall prior to 3:00 pm Sunday, September 10, 2017. (b) No livestock is to be removed from the grounds without prior permission from the Livestock Chairperson/ designate prior to 3:00 pm Sunday, September 10, 2017.

Adult exhibitor weekend pass fee may be included with entry fee (see entry form).

Exhibits are to conform to the description in the prize book (i.e.

Numbers, quantity etc.). Flowers, vegetables and plants are to include the variety name or identification, such as early, or late or the entry will be disqualified.

One entry per class, per exhibitor (i.e. individual or farm) with the exception of livestock or “any other” categories or quilting or multiple flower classes are allowed as long as they do not duplicate one another and are not listed in the prize book. (See Quilting Section for New Rule.) There shall be no more than one first, one second and one third ribbon given per class.

Basis for awarding special prizes: Points are: 3 for first, 2 for second and 1 for third. Exceptions are livestock, 4-H and individual specials.

Community Family Competition 1. A community family must have at least two members in five categories.

2. Winner is the family attaining the highest number of points in the fair.

3. Competition is not restricted to farm families. Any community family is eligible.

4. Exhibits in all areas with the exception of sports, 4-H and novelty events are eligible to be credited to the family unit.

5. Family unit includes the head of the household plus dependants, which may include all family members residing in the home as a unit.

Chairperson Deanna Lambert (250) 694-3811 Special rules: 1. All Exhibitors in this Division must be registered members in the 4-H Club, in the project entered.

2. All animals to be used by the member, a registered project for the current year.

3. There is NO entry fee for achievement classes.

4. Bedding and water will be supplied.

Member is responsible for feed for their animals.

5. There will be NO meal tickets given out.

6. Judge’s decision is final.

7. All judging will be done in DANISH SYSTEM. Animals not considered marketable and in the ‘3rd row’ will not be sold in the 4-H Auction.

8. No horns on registered 4-H animals, except registered females.

9. Sheep must be sheared.

10. Market animals must be castrated.

11. No weight restrictions on beef, sheep and swine.

12. Only the member showing the animal may groom the animal and clean stalls.

13. No liquor or drugs on the grounds.

14. All barns close at 10:00 pm.

15. No sleeping in the barns.

16. No parking trucks or vehicles in front of the barns.

17. All projects must be on the grounds by Friday September 8th no later than 6:00 pm.

INDIVIDUAL OVER ALL HIGH POINT AWARD Winning individual must have entered in at least three divisions. The individual (Junior or Senior) attaining the highest number of points in the Fair will be the winner.

All divisions in the fair with the exception of 4-H, novelty events and sports will be credited to the individual.

All animals exhibited shall be free from contagious or infectious diseases. The Committee reserves the right to have any animal inspected by a veterinarian. The Committee may order the removal from the grounds or isolation of any animal considered by the veterinarian to be contagious or infectious.

3. Unsealed jars are disqualified.

5. Jars must be scrupulously clean.

6. For exhibition new or near new rings should be used.

7. Jams to have a uniform texture. Soft and easy to spread, no granules. Berry jams should not have excessive seeds.

8. Jelly no sediment, retain shape and quiver when unmolded.

9. Meat, liquid must jell and a layer of fat form at the top.

10. Approximately 1” head space for corn, peas and ½” for other vegetables.

11. Whole fruits, i.e. plums or cherries should be pricked with a needle to prevent the skins from splitting.

12. Canned fruits approximately 1/3 liquid to 2/3 fruit.

13. Jar should be filled to within ½” of top after processing.

14. Due to the danger of food poisoning, canned vegetables are never tasted and will

remain unopened.

15. Commercial canning or recyclable jars MUST be used.
