How to plan for the

best summer camp experiences The Alberta Camping Association provides tools to narrow down possibilities

It may be early in the year, but local summer camp staff are already well into planning for an array of activities to keep local youth engaged.

Central Alberta features all kinds of summer camps, geared towards those with a passion for dance, a penchant for horseback riding or those who want to spend time learning about the Bible while still enjoying a host of recreational opportunities. There are also camps suited to those with a range of sporting sensibilities where swimming, canoeing, wall climbing and the wonders of the outdoors are explored.

Many aim to provide a wide variety of activities to foster growth, learning, a sense of adventure and independence all while offering plenty of fun, healthy activities for kids to be a part of.

Choosing a camp may seem like an overwhelming venture considering the multitude of choices, but the Alberta Camping Association (ACA) provides tools to narrow down the possibilities.

The Association is a not-for-profit organization and a community of camp professionals, seasonal employees, volunteers, and supporters of organized summer and youth camps.

The Association also provides education, networking opportunities, and resources for youth camps and outdoor centres across the province. An online resource library offers members helpful resources on a wide range of topics including business and finance, volunteer management, research and trends in camping, site and facilities, programming and activities, food services, leadership training and many more.

Articles are also posted regularly on the Alberta Camping Association Blog, as well as on facebook and Twitter.

Meanwhile, with hundreds of camps ranging from day camps, residential, and out trip camps focusing

on activities like horseback riding, canoeing, mountaineering, to art, drama, and science there is a lot to choose from.

To find out what activities or type of camp that would fit with your child best, visit the Association’s camp directory. Something else to keep in mind is that ACA member camps have been accredited with the stamp of ACA approval. “That means they reach a high level of standards and follow strict protocols to make sure your child is getting the best experience in the safest environment. These standards are related to things like site, facility, administration, leadership, health, food service, and programming.�

Meanwhile, parents can continue their research by visiting each individual camp’s web site to learn about the camp’s philosophy, the type of programs offered, session lengths, start dates and cost.

The ACA offers a complete list of camps – there is an excellent tab on the web site called ‘Search for a Camp’ which lists areas of interest ranging form baseball, biking and kayaking to cycling, sailing, backpacking and tennis. Those searching for the best camp can check off specific interests and the program finds camps that specialize in those areas.

Profiles of a number of camps are presented which can then be explored at your leisure.

Also available on the ACA web site is a section specifically geared to parents and the questions or concerns they might have. There is information on choosing a camp, preparing for camp or when a child has to head off to camp on their own.

Another way to find out about overall camping experiences is to simply ask around.

According to the site, “Further still, you can ask your friends, family, and neighbours about their camping experience. Perhaps they have a camp to recommend or can help you with your research. If you think you have the right camp in mind, talk to others to see how they found their experience there.�

There are indeed many advantages to signing up for camp. Kids can learn all kinds of new things, establish new friendships, and learn a bit about positive growth and independence. “Going to summer camp is a big step for kids and parents, but the benefits will last a lifetime. Your child will practice independence, make new friends, learn new things, and experience positive growth.�

Salvation Army’s ers lots of f f o Pine Lake Camp summer

There is plenty of adventure awaiting campers who have signed up for a summer camp at the Salvation Army’s Pine Lake Camp.

“There is an atmosphere that is cultivated when an individual comes to a place that is outside of the norm of their everyday life,” said Capt. Ian Gillingham, divisional youth secretary with the Salvation Army’s Alberta and Northern Territories D.H.Q. “There is just something about a camp - and just being outdoors - it shifts something for people. They’re more receptive, they are open - there are programs and opportunities that lead them to saying, ‘I want to come back!’”

Featured among the camps this coming summer are Holiday Camps which service different parts of the province.

The first - Holiday Camp 1 - is aimed to youth in Red Deer and the Central Alberta region. It runs from July 10th to July 15th.

As the web site points out, “Everyone deserves a vacation, including kids! Holiday Camp is intentionally designed to help kids get away from the routine of everyday life and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.

“Through physical activities like tenting, biking, canoeing, swimming, wall-climbing and more, kids will develop new skills, grow in confidence and learn to be a team player. But, it doesn’t end there! By participating in Bible learning, camp fires, and intentional conversations with camp leaders kids will either encounter God for the first time, or grow

in their already blossoming spiritual experience.”

Gillingham said many times, the young campers return year after year.

“They come back because they’ve experienced something - there’s a camaraderie, and they know that some of their friends might be coming back,” he explained. “So there is a meaningful experience that comes out of that.

“Some of the kids also have some pretty life changing experiences,” he said.

“And that’s one of the things we want to create for them - we want to create and provide an opportunity for them to have a life-changing experience.”

This is also an exciting time at Pine Lake Camp as plenty of new features are being added to the site, which altogether spans some 70 acres, he said. There is a photography program that was added l a s t year, and it’s proven to be a hit.

“Every single youth were able to take home a picture of the kids that were in their cabin group,” he said. “They got a little journal to write in, signatures of their best buddies - these are keepsakes for them, too.”

Other highlights to look forward to include archery. “We’ve had archery in the past and we are re-instituting it,” he said, adding there will be outdoor human foosball this year, too.“It’s something where you think, oh man - this is so Albertan,” he added with a laugh.

“We are also bringing in tether-ball and updating our mini golf course. And we will also be instituting a community garden in different phases,” he said, adding that it’s a healthy life-skill to add to a camper’s overall experience at Pine Lake.“We want to also give them some lifeskills and some

fun experiences that they could possibly replicate when they are back home.

“We are also initiating phase two of our mountain bike trails as well. We cut some new trails last year, and we will be enhancing that aspect of our program.”

As to other camps, Leader In Training (LIT) Camp runs July 11th to Aug. 11th. This one month LIT Camp is an intense leader-in-training program for youth in Grades 8 to 10. Participants are challenged through outdoor activity and team building.

“Participants are challenged through outdoor activity, team building exercises, exploring healthy spiritual practices and being immersed in all aspects of camp life. The goal is growth, self-discovery and learning to serve others.” LIT Camp serves as a great training program for youth who are interested working at Pine Lake Camp, notes the web site.

Additionally, youth will come home having grown in confidence and understanding of good leadership that will be expressed in everyday life for years to come,” notes the web site.

Holiday Camp 2 runs July 17th to July 22nd. And the month of July wraps up with Holiday Camp 3 which goes from

July 31st to Aug. 5th. Teen Camp gets underway Aug. 7th and wraps up Aug. 11th.

“Activities like biking, wall climbing, swimming, campfire, Bible teaching and more foster an atmosphere of team work, learning, growth, friendship and fun.”

The Gospel Arts Camp runs from Aug. 12th to Aug. 19th. According to the web site, “Through a variety of classes like music theory, guitar, vocals, band, praise and worship, drama, arts/crafts, photography and more you will explore and develop your own artistic potential.

“Elements of fun and relaxation in the outdoors will be woven throughout the week to create a dynamic and exciting experience. Talented instructors will teach classes, provide Bible learning and spiritual coaching, and let their hair down with a little bit of fun.”

These are just a few examples of what Pine Lake Camp has to offer.

Things are buzzing all year-round as well, with a variety of camps, conferences, retreats, meetings and events through the fall, winter and spring months, too.

Halkirk Circle Square Ranch

There is plenty to see, do and experience at the Halkirk Circle Square Ranch which has been hosting a range of summer camps since 1978.

According to the web site, Circle Square Ranch is owned and operated by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada. Inter-Varsity has been operating summer camps and year-round outdoor educational programs for more than 80 years.

They operate nine summer camps across Canada under the names of Pioneer and Circle Square.

Meanwhile, folks are already getting their kids signed up for the coming summer season.

“We’ve already had over 500 registrations,” said Kevin Perry, the Camp’s executive director. The camp was created as part of the Crossroads Christian Communications TV program called Circle Square, which originally aired on TV in the 1970s.

“There is a lot of value in camp.”

In 2011, five Circle Square Ranches became part of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of Canada, which also owns and operates four Pioneer Camps across Canada.

Inter-Varsity has been providing summer camps and year-round programs for children, youth, young adults and families since 1929.

“Part of what we hope is that they have acquired some different skills and pushed themselves in some areas that they can take and apply in their everyday lives,” said Perry, adding the focus overall is on four key areas - social, physical, mental and the spiritual. “We want to see them grow in those four areas, which are huge in life.”

Helping to provide youth with practical skills for life is all the more important these days, as it seems kids are under increased pressure then in the past. “These times can be really hard on kids - often things are expected of them earlier just with the way society is going.

“There are things that when I was 12 that I didn’t even remotely have to think about. But now, they are having to battle with life issues at a younger age where they ac-

tually don’t have a really good set of tools to navigate those decisions. Sometimes, really mature decisions are being pushed on them really early.”

At Circle Square, the setting itself speaks to a time away from the normal routines of life. Also, campers are required to deposit their electronic devices with the staff prior to beginning their stint at camp. “We ask they turn them all in!” Perry said that with the rise of smart phone use, even the basics of connecting with others and holding meaningful conversations is an art that isn’t as well-honed sometimes as it could be these days.

“Those basic relational principles just arent’t so common anymore.”

swimming, wall climbing and high ropes to archery, BMX biking, skateboarding, campfires and Bible studies.

Staff run several overnight camps for youth between the ages of six and 18.

According to the web site, in this camp community, where leadership and faith development is encouraged, “Children and youth are comfortable asking tough questions about life and faith.

“Campers find answers and direction for life here. For 35 years, we have been helping children and youth develop into mature Christian leaders.

“Our staff are well trained to mentor and guide children and youth in all aspects of camp life, from developing skills to engaging in conversations about life and faith.”

Of course, horsemanship is a primary focus at Circle Square as well.

“We continue to offer a high level of horsemanship camps,” said Perry.

Campers are assigned to a horse that is appropriate to their riding experience and comfort level, and instruction and support are always provided.

“Everything we do - it doesn’t matter what skill they are learning whether it be from horses to archery to high ropes - they are tools to show them they can develop skills for life.” It’s also about building confidence.“The activities are to help uncover and unearth the strengths that lay within these kids, and their own potential.”

At the end of the day, Perry, who has been at the Halkirk Circle Square Ranch for 17 years now, added it’s such a fulfilling line of work.

“For us, it’s the constant reminder that there is such a vast resource of wealth in young people today. We want to be part of being that catalyst of hopefully bringing that out. It’s seeing the potential that is there. Once you start to have some conversations and build those relationships, they can really grow by leaps and bounds by the end of the week.

“It is highly rewarding.”

Camp Silversides offers a perfect

summer getaway for youth

If you’re looking for a close to home Christian summer camp that will get the kids to unplug for a little while and enjoy nature, Camp Silversides might be the perfect option for you.

The nearly 90-year-old summer camp is nestled on the southern shore of Gull Lake, just down the road from Aspen Beach Provincial Park 20 minutes west of Lacombe.

“We’re a Bible camp or a Christian camp and we’re part of a ministry called One Hope Canada. We run Bible camps all summer for all ages. We run youth camps and family camps and then we actually run retreats throughout the whole year,” said Silversides Camp Director Jacquie Hnidey.

Started in 1929 by Prairie College as a summer outreach, the camp was taken over by One Hope Canada and has since grown into the year-round facility it is today, hosting around 400 campers each year, according to the One Hope Canada web site.

“One Hope Canada actually runs 42 camps across Canada. The goal of One Hope Canada is just to reach people through Jesus,” Hnidey said.

Beyond growing in their faith, campers will also get the chance to learn one of the many different skills offered at Silversides.

“We have everything from zip lining to paintball,” said Hnidey, noting because of its proximity to the lake one of the camp’s biggest and most unique features is its water sports program.

“We do paddle boarding and — of course — canoeing, fishing. But we also have this really beautiful speedboat and with that we do wake boarding and wake surfing.”

There’s also disc golf, a climbing wall and low ropes.

“We have a really huge skills program.”

In addition to the skills, campers also get to take part in firesides, chapels, wide games and camp meals prepared by the Silversides staff.

Hnidey said coming to camp is an opportunity for young people to completely unplug for a week and real-

ly experience nature and interact with their peers.

“It’s huge.The kids don’t even bring their cell phones to camp, which is beautiful. They get this week where they get to come out to the outdoors and just experience nature and what God has created,” she said.

“Kids come to camp and they’re able to create these wonderful friendships and they learn. It’s just a real grounding experience.”

That goes for kids of every age, from intro camps for kids in Grades 1 to 3 through to teen, junior high and senior high camps for older youth.

“I’ve directed for years and years and years.

Without a doubt the kids don’t want to go home at the end of the week. They have just such a wonderful time. It’s just this great opportunity to unplug from the world, so to speak, and all the technology and TV and stuff — we don’t have any of that out there.

“It’s just about people and nature. It’s beautiful.”

Finally, Camp Silversides also offers a family camp for parents and kids to get out and enjoy summer camp together.

“For the family camp, the whole family can come out.

It’s just a great time for kids and parents to be together and just kind of be able to have this relaxing week where they don’t have to cook or anything like that and the kids

get to do all these activities with the parents. Our society is so not that way anymore, so it’s a wonderful experience for families, too.”

Families can stay in one of Silversides’ on-site cabins, a powered RV site or a tenting site. The week also features Lawrence Jensen of the New Sweden Mission Church in Wetaskiwin as a guest speaker.

How to prepare the kids for their

first summer camp

This summer, your children are going away to summer camp for the very first time. And maybe it’s also the first time you’ve been separated from them for so long.

Everyone’s probably feeling a little apprehensive. Here are some tips to help everyone prepare for the day of departure.

• The best way to reassure children is not to worry. If you have specific concerns, call the camp and ask all the questions that are bothering you. Some camps hold open house days; they are a great opportunity to check out the location, meet the counsellors, and get some reassurance.

• To build your children’s enthusiasm and interest, talk po­sitively about the camp and ask them about the activities they can’t wait to try. You can also tell them stories about your own experiences, if you ever went to summer camp.

• If your children have never slept away from home, it would be a good idea let them have a trial run.

A weekend at their grandparents will likely be a comfortable initiation, and it will prepare them for the few nights they’ll soon be spending away from you.

• Don’t promise your children that you’ll go

and bring them home if they feel homesick or if they don’t like the camp. They could very well test your promise at the first hurdle.

It will also keep them from making a ge­ nuine effort to adapt if they know they can leave whenever they want. Instead, encourage them to persevere. They can decide whether they want to

repeat the experience once they’re back home.

Above all, put on your biggest smile when you say goodbye to them at the camp. It will let them enter into their experience without worry that you’re in distress. After all, they’re going to be having an extraordinary adventure!

Summer camps for kids with

The Math Shack helps sharpen skills

The summer is prime time for kids to catch up on what they’ve learned in school.

Over at the Math Shack, local educator Lisa Hansen takes a different approach to teaching math.

She calls it a multi-sensory approach, where students learn through sight, speech, play and action.

“Multi-sensory means they’re not just watching a teacher do something on the board for operations. We’re hands-on. We have visuals, actions and songs if we need, puzzles and charts. All the different senses are activated to help them learn it,” said Hansen.

Within her methods, there’s a recognition that students learn in different ways, that some are visual learners, others are auditory and some, kinaesthetic.

Suppose there’s a case where a kindergarten-aged student has trouble recognizing numbers. Hansen has a way of targeting each one.

For the visual learners, she’s developed ‘number friends’ - characters that come in the shape of that digit to help students remember them. For those that learn through listening and speaking, she’ll teach them a rhyme or song. And for the ones who learn by doing, she’ll teach them a gesture.

“If we’re learning about money, we have play money and set up a store, we put a value on things. Or we’re going out for lunch, let’s say, and we’re ordering off menus, we’re playing with bills and we’re making change, (calculating) GST for the older kids,” Hansen said.

A key part of teaching math is making it applicable to their daily lives. Hansen said older students will occasionally question why they’re learning the material. These real-life examples show why, she said. Want to bake something? Better know your fractions.

Hansen, a teacher of 16 years, has been running the Math Shack for just over a year.

She has used the same multi-sensory approach through her own literacy centre for six years. Parents soon started asking for her to teach math that way as well.

She sees the Math Shack as a place where kids who fall behind can catch up. Some of her students might be in a Grade 4 classroom but their abilities are stuck at the Grade 1 level.

“Even if the school gives them extra help, they can’t give them all the extra help they need, or take them that far back to the fundamentals.

Learn to fly this summer

Combining faith and flight, Prairie College has camps aimed at pilots with passion.

The Three Hills-based Christian college is authorized by Transport Canada to train aviators. Students can work toward permits like their Private Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence and multi-engine and instrument ratings. They can learn to fly commercially. But the two-year program offered is an Associate of Arts in mission aviation.

Mission aviation, is about putting those skills to use in missionary work. That work is often done in developing countries, where communities are not easily accessible by roads. That’s where airplanes come in, transporting aid workers and supplies to remote areas.

“Their goal is to help improve the lives of these people as well as bring the Christian faith to them as well,” said Miriam Skelton, the camp registrar.

But even with the aircraft, there are special conditions mission pilots must navigate. Prairie teaches them to land on grass strips and to fly over mountainous terrain, Skelton said.

This camp though, is much more introductory.

Skelton said they want to introduce campers to ground instruction and then get them some flying experience.

During the week, they can log up to three hours into their pilot training record, recognized by Transportation Canada. According to the ministry, to earn a Private Pilot Licence, 45 hours of flight training are required; a Commercial Pilot Licence takes 200 hours.

The aircraft used are Cessna 172 planes — basic, single-engine training planes that seat four.

Campers will also get to learn to fly aerobatically, if they wish, Skelton said, using a tail-wheel aerobatic tandem plane, coloured bright yellow.

“They get to do loops and barrel rolls and hammerheads. It’s pretty fun. It’s quite the experience,” she said.

MULTI SPORT SUMMER CAMP SPECIFICS

“It’s often the highlight of their week.”

Typical camp activities will still take place, such as swimming, games and sitting around a campfire.

“We do the camp stuff and the activities in the evenings because there’s no flying in the evening,” Skelton said.

Prairie College also holds a variety of sports camps for youth of varying ages.

For elementary school kids, there are two multi-sport day camps where they can play soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, dodgeball, baseball and more.

Randy Stewart, the school’s athletic director, said the goal is to get them active and to help them fall in love with sports.

With older youth, there’s a greater focus on high-performance.

Prairie College holds a volleyball camp for those aged 13-18, led by college and university players and coaches.

The camp is aimed at those who want to advance to the next level of their sport. Stewart said they’ve unearthed some talent for their varsity team, the Pilots.

“We’ve definitely had a lot of athletes come through that, then come to the school as students and athletes as well,” Stewart said.

Recently, the school started hosting the NBC Basketball Camp, an athlete development program based in Spokane, Washington.

One session for kids aged 11-16 focuses on shooting.

The other, for campers aged 14-19, includes leadership, weight training, nutrition, sports psychology with advanced basketball coaching.

As faith-based camps, all of these seek to develop participants off the playing surface as well.

“It’s to help kids through life and give them a chance to meet coaches who’ve been through sports, that try to model Christian character and values as well,” Stewart said.

Camping options galore at Rivers Edge Camp & Retreat Centre

With programs for children, youth, families and seniors running through the summer months, the Rivers Edge Camp and Retreat Centre has a summer camp option for everyone.

The Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada ministry camp, which is located just outside of Cremona, offers summer camp and equine programs which allow children and youth to get away to a natural setting and develop their faith, according to the camp’s mission statement.

“The goals of the camps are to, number one, focus on their relationship with Jesus Christ, focus on camaraderie with friends and meeting new friends and taking advantage of character development,” said Juan Manigault, the executive director of the Rivers Edge Camping Association, which runs the camp.

When it comes to summer camps, Rivers Edge offers a large variety of options for kids and youth of all ages, and even a few for families as well.

For example, there’s the brand new PeeWee Camp for kids ages four to six which offers younger campers an opportunity to get a feel for the summer camp experience over the course of a short two-day and one night stay.

“This is a camp that is designed to introduce four- to six-year-olds to camping,” Manigault said, adding that Rivers Edge also offers a Squirt camp for kids ages six to eight which is three days and two nights.

“The PeeWee and the Squirt camps are really designed for youngsters who

are going to be away from home, maybe, for the first time by themselves.There’s a lot of fun involved with those camps.”

Rivers Edge also has Junior and Junior High camps, which are week-long programs.

Over the course of their stay at the camp, participants will take part in a variety of activities from volleyball, wide games, hiking and crafts.

Manigault said that learning how to work as part of a team is one of the central themes of the week-long overnight camps.

“Some of those are, again, you’re playing on a team, learning how to be a team member; teamwork. Your cabin has some competitions, so you’re part of a broader team of about eight to 12 people in a cabin,” he said, noting that every day, cabins can earn points by keeping their rooms clean, memorizing Bible verses and keeping their tables clean at breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“We give a prize at the end of the camp for the team with the highest score.”

Then, of course, there’s the traditional summer camp fire pit to close out each day.

In addition to their regular activities, Rivers Edge is also known for their extensive equestrian programs, including a couple of week-long horsemanship camps which give participants a chance to learn the basics of riding and horse care.

From there, campers have the opportunity to expand their horseback riding experience through more advanced programs.

“Then horsemanship level two is a higher level of horsemanship that gets you ready for the opportunity to be a leader at the camp or to be a wrangler,” Manigault said, noting that after completing their level two, participants can continue to pursue their love of horseback riding through Rivers Edge’s threeweek long faith-based LEAD (Lifelong Equestrians and Disciples) camp.

Riders also get an opportunity to explore some of the many trails scattered throughout 300 acres of forest and

meadow on the property, according to the camp’s web site.

There’s also the ever-popular Teen Camp, which is done in partnership with CrossRoads Church in Red Deer.

“Last year I’d say we had about 100 teenagers on site for that camp, so it was pretty popular,” Manigault said.

That Teen Camp includes guest speakers, paintball, high ropes courses and horseback riding, among other things, and is open to teens in Grades nine through 12.

For those who want a more rugged experience, Rivers Edge also offers their five-day Adventure Camp.

“They actually go down to the river level and stay in tents overnight for each of the days and it’s really like a wilderness-type camp in the sense that they’re going to do a lot of things, outdoor activities but not staying in a nice comfortable cabin.”

Rivers Edge also offers a Family Camp to give families the chance to get out and enjoy nature together.

To make things even better, this year when you purchase one full-priced camp, you get the second one for 50% off.

Manigault said Rivers Edge also has a number of scholarships available for families who can’t afford to send their kids to camp.

“We love encouraging people to come to camp, so we want to help people experience what camping is all about.”

• Everyone’s expectations. Decide what type of experience you want to offer your child. Do you pre-

fer an “all-round” camp or one that explores the world of art? A camp that allows children to specialize in a sport or other talent? Obviously, it’s important to talk about this with your child. By offering various options, your child will be able to clarify his or her expectations and choose an appropriate camp.

• Practical details. Discuss the length of stay and type of lodging (dormitory, cottage, tent, etc.). Think about any special needs your child has (physical or intellectual disabilities, severe allergies, etc.), as well as your own budget restrictions.

Armed with these selection criteria, do a bit of research and select some camps that seem especially interesting. If necessary, call for more information about activities, menus and parent-child contact. Chinook’s Edge School Division offers summer school in three communities, making it convenient for students to take courses for credit. Summer School is available in Innisfail, Sylvan Lake and Olds. High School students, or those entering grade 10 in September 2017, are able to take courses to upgrade existing marks, complete a required course missing from their timetable, or for personal reasons. All core high school courses are offered and there is no charge for students currently in Chinook’s Edge. Students work at their own pace, but under the guidance and supervision of teachers who provide assistance when needed.

Taking a summer course provides students the opportunity to upgrade their marks in a course they didn’t do well in, or it can help reduce their course load in September. School is barely out before it’s time to start the kids at day camp. All summer long, they will be able to do a variety of activities, go on group outings, and make lots of new friends. Here are a few tips to help your children enjoy this enriching experience, which they are sure to remember for the rest of their lives.

First of all, it’s possible that your children will feel a little nervous about going to camp, especially if it’s their first time. Reassure them by describing all the activities that will be organized throughout the summer, emphasizing the ones you know they’ll prefer. Remind them that this is a perfect opportunity to experience wonderful adventures with other children of the same age.

On the first day of camp, start them off on the right foot by giving them a good breakfast. They

Every evening before bedtime, invite your children to participate in the preparation of their backpacks. Make sure they pack sunscreen, a hat or baseball cap, and a good pair of shoes. As most camps have swimming in their programs, ensure they also include a swimsuit, towel, and a change of clothing. Some pools require swim caps to be worn. You might also be required to supply life vests or swim floats if your children need them.

Last but not least, go over basic safety rules with your children, and be sure to tell them to have a good time. After all, day camp is the perfect place to create unforgettable memories.

Participants will be taught basic tennis skills. Instruction regarding strokes and strategies will be included for advanced students. Those participants taking more than one week will be taught at their skill level. Registrants need to bring their own racquets and must wear running shoes and shorts or sweats. Since our courts are being resurfaced some lessons will be indoors. Outdoor fun and fitness activities will be included. Recommended to bring: insect repellent, sunscreen, snack, water bottle.
