City receives offer for former fire hall TREVOR CRAWLEY

The City of Cranbrook has received a conditional offer on the old fire hall, which has

been on the market since July 2015. The news was announced by Mayor Lee Pratt on Wednesday at a

Chamber of Commerce luncheon where he gave an update on city business over the last year. “I will tell you we

have accepted a conditional offer for the sale of the old fire hall,” Pratt told the crowd, adding that the potential buyer

is going through their due diligence in terms of investigating the structure, which requires significant engineering,

electrical and mechanical work. “We expect this process to be wrapped up by mid-December at the

Integra Air shuts down Cranbrook service TRE VOR CR AWLEY

Integra Air is shutting down direct Cranbrook to Calgary flights after less than a year of service due to low passenger loads. According to a press release from the company, there have been fluctuations in passenger loads, with increases in July and August. However, passenger loads dipped afterwards, and the company was forced into making the decision. “We are unable to sustain the air service with the current passenger loads,” read an Integra Air press release. “We are very thankful to those who have supported us in the past with this endeavour and appreciate all of the help throughout the past year of service.” All travel that has been booked through the company will be honoured. The last routes will be flown on Oct. 31, 2016 before shutting down permanently.

latest, at which point we can provide more details on the sale and what is expected to be developed there.” The building, considered a heritage structure, was built in 1929 and recently served as the city’s fire hall until a new building was opened in 2011 on 2nd Street. The old fire hall is on the block for $250,000 after a price drop of $99,000 in April 2016. Council rezoned the property from P1 — Public Institutional, to C1, a designation that opens up the land use options for potential buyers.

On Sept. 16, Cranbrook Conservation Officers responded to a complaint of a dead deer in a residential area. COs investigated and found the buck had been illegally killed by a crossbow at night, from a vehicle and in a closed area. Two male suspects were identified and charges are now pending. Poaching and other environmental violations can be reported to the COs hotline at 1-877952-RAPP (7277).
