Chernove reflects on Paralympic experience T r e vo r C r aw l e y

ith a dislocated shoulder and numerous scrapes and bruises after crashing with five other riders in the Paralympic cycling road race, Tristen Chernove could’ve easily — and understandably — called it quits. However, that’s not in his nature. The Cranbrook cyclist, already with three medals to his name during his time at the Paralympics, picked himself up, fiddled with his bicycle — which was still functional even though the handlebars were twisted and there was limited access to all gears because of a busted front derailer — and got back on the course. He finished in 15th place. “It’s unfortunate to not have been able to contend for the win, but I’m more proud of that race than any of the races of the Games,” said Chernove. “Looking at my power profile data after the ride, it’s the strongest ride I’ve ever done. I went from several minutes behind the whole pelaton to finishing 15th, which required a monumental effort. “…So I’m super proud of the effort, but I rode really hard to end up with the finish I had.” Chernove is back home in Cranbrook after a whirlwind experience at the Rio Parlaympic Games, nabbing a full spectrum of medals — gold, silver and bronze — while competing in track cycling and road racing events.

Boil water advisory for localized city area For the Townsman

A boil water notice is in effect for a very localized area of the City of Cranbrook today, after Public Works water crews discovered a leaking sanitary sewer main Sunday evening. Residents living on Anderson Crescent and 21st Avenue South, between 2nd Street South and 2nd Street North including the apartment buildings adjacent to Victoria Avenue and 2nd Street North are the only people affected by the boil water notice. All other residents on mu-

nicipal water are not affected by this notice. All residents affected were notified by City staff Sunday evening. Interior Health has been notified and is monitoring the situation closely in conjunction with Public Works water crews. Those residents affected by this boil water notice MUST boil their water for at least one (1) minute or use an alternate, safe source of water until further notice.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, Cranbrook RCMP responded to several reports from thefts of vehicles, as well as breakand-enter and theft complaints. These incidents occurred in the northeast corner of Cranbrook, from Steeples School north and east of Cranbrook Street. Suspects stole multiple items, including credit cards, cash and other valuables and clothing. RCMP are seeking the assistance of the public in regards to these incidents. If anyone saw or observed any suspicious be-

haviour or suspicious vehicles late Friday night or early Saturday morning, they are requested to call the RCMP or CrimeStoppers. Police believe these incidents are related. An RCMP press release sent out Monday said items believed to have been stolen during these incidents have been recovered. If you are a victim of these crimes, and are missing any property, call Cranbrook RCMP to identify it so it can be returned to the rightful owners. RCMP
