Advance celebrates business excellence For the 19th year in a row, local businesses are commended for doing a great job.

No business owner does what they do solely for recognition purposes, but most appreciate when customers tell them they’re doing something right.

When it comes to offering outstanding customer service and providing quality products, there are hundreds of Langley businesses worthy of such recognition – and acknowledging them that has long been the motivation behind the Langley Advance’s annual Best of the Best awards.

“We are thrilled, after 19 years, to once again bring you the results of the annual Best of the Best,” announced Peggy O’Brien, advertising sales manager for the Advance.

Your community newspaper (since 1931), the Langley Advance offered its readers a chance to vote – online or through a newspaper ballot – for Langley businesses they feel are deserving of the Best of the Best status.

Readers are the judges here, O’Brien explained.

This program, steeped in history, breaks down into four different areas: automotive, service, retail, and dining/entertainment.

Readers are asked to vote for a minimum of 12 businesses worthy of honours.

This year, there were 129 different categories, including a few new ones added to the list – the recent inclusion of plumbers, tattoo parlours, and realtors (versus real estate firm).

“Langley Advance readers have the opportunity to vote for businesses that they feel make a

Based on their own experiences with a company, and wanting to help bring attention and accolades to Langley’s Best, literally thousands of Advance readers cast their votes this time around.

Then, weeks were spent tallying all those ballots and reaffirming the count before the awards

were presented during an invitation-only ceremony last night at the Redwoods Golf Course.

Best of the Best grows in popularity every year, and while there are always well-established Langley businesses chosen year after year – such as Pasta Polo, Re/Max Treeland Realty, Toy Traders, The Keg, Nufloors, and Design Lighting – O’Brien also wants to draw attention to some of the newbies.

She pointed to Chopped Leaf as just one example. This company, with an outlet in Walnut Grove, and another recently opened on Willowbrook Drive, was selected by voters as the best vegetarian and vegan dining option in town. They also earned a runners-up status in the fast food restaurant category.

“We have many businesses that have won for consecutive years, but it is always nice to recognize the first-time winner,” she elaborated. “In many cases it is a small business that many of our readers may not have been to.”
