The weather was lovely, the pancakes were tasty, the music was terrific. Kimberley celebrated another First Saturday on July 5 and the verdict was... great fun.

New this year was the Bed Race, and it was embraced with great enthusiasm by eight team entrants. This event was organized by super-volunteer Jim Webster and drew a good crowd for a 10 a.m. start Saturday morning.

“In the end it was youth over age and cunning that ruled the day at Kimberley’s First Bed Race,” Webster reports. “The team of Jamer Holdings Toni Lepore Accounting won all three of their races to finish first and take home

the Bed Race Trophy donated by Western Financial and designed by local artist Tony Austin of Dragon’s Rest Studio. The races weren’t without incident as all three race beds lost a wheel. See BED, page 4

KIMBERLEY, B.C. The City of Kimberley is pleased to welcome Corporate Officer Dawn Attorp. D a w n brings eight years of experience as the Dawn Attorp General Manager of Corporate Administration from the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK), where she also served as Acting CAO for one and one half years in 2006-2007. Dawn also worked for the City of Grand Forks from 1991 to 2005. Dawn is a Certified Municipal Clerk as designated by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, and holds an Intermediate Certificate on Local Government Administration from the Provincial Board of Examiners. “Mayor, council, and the management team are thrilled to add someone of Dawn’s considerable experience and leadership qualities”, said Chief Administrative Officer Scott Sommerville. “I am very pleased to be joining the management team for the City of Kimberley. Being born and raised in the East Kootenays and recently having moved back, I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with council to achieve their vision,” said Attorp.
