A cracked valve at Cantimber BioTech’s new facility was behind the odour and poor air quality that hit Port Alberni this weekend, according to director of project development and research Michael Liu. “We were informed by the port authority that nearby residents had experienced a smoke and odour from our operations,” said Liu, adding that they were informed on April 29.

“It’s unfortunate that this incident occurred due to the poor quality of the valve. We’ve upgraded the valve and there should not be any further incidents.”

port authority buildings at Harbour Road and Bruce Street—shut down operations immediately and had their engineering team investigate the issue.

“We have identified a valve on the wet scrubber that cracked,” he said.

“The wet scrubber is a very important dust control. It’s a spray or mist of water and any small dust [particles,] before they exit they bind to it and are washed away.

That way, when it leaves the stacks it’s supposed to be just steam.”

Huu-ay-aht celebrate with Bamfield ALBERNI VALLEY NEWS

The Huu-ay-aht First Nation and Bamfield residents came out in droves in late April to celebrate the HFN’s recent purchases of 11 properties in Bamfield.

“I’m happy to be able to celebrate this big step for our nation. It’s a historic day for all of us, for this whole community, both Bamfield and the Huu-ay-aht tribe,” Tayii Ha’wiilth (hereditary chief) Derek Peters told a crowd gathered in front of the newlypurchased Bamfield Motel.

“It’s very fitting that we wanted to come down here and celebrate with the Bamfield community because we’re one community. Even though we’re divided in the way we are, we’re the first nations village (Anacla) that lives just three miles away.”

The Huu-ay-aht purchased the 11 properties in January, signalling a turning point for both Bamfield and Anacla.

The properties include the Bamfield Motel, general store, restaurant, the Bamfield airstrip and Rance Island.

According to Huu-ay-aht Coun.

Trevor Cootes, the 11 properties were a package deal being sold by an asset company.

“Those properties

were being held by an asset company, and they used to be (Jack) Purdy’s properties,” said Cootes.

Purdy, who since 2011 had promised to pour millions into developing his Bamfield holdings, had done no such thing and has been the subject of numerous police and FBI investigations.

Bamfield electorial area director Keith Wyton said he was looking forward to the growth that the deal would bring to his community.

“I’m very excited to see what they do with the properties,” said Wyton, adding that he felt confident about the Huu-ay-aht’s development plans.

“This is their home.

They’re here for the long haul.”

According to Peters, the purchases will allow the Huu-ay-aht to continue investing and developing in their traditional territory. “We’re a nation that’s never left here and we’re never going to leave our homeland,” he said.

The desire to partner and work with the Bamfield community was made clear throughout the ceremony.

Nuu-chah-nulth leader dies A Port Alberni man who was of great importance to modern Nuu-chahnulth history has died.

Nelson Keitlah was one of the original leaders of the West Coast District Council, which became the

Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council(NTC).

He died in his sleep on the morning of Sunday, May 1. He was 82.

Keitlah was often referred to respectfully as The General for his ability to lead the 14 Nuu-chah-

nulth First Nations in negotiations with the Federal and Provincial governments, according to a Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council press release.

Students get an in-depth look at the creatures that most of us don’t notice— aquatic invertebrates.

“They learn that some critters are intolerant to pollution so that if you have those in a creek that means that the creek is healthy,” said Falconer.

Alberni Valley residents will soon have a better idea of what’s going into their inlet, thanks to West Coast Aquatic.

The organization was awarded $90,000 from the RBC Blue Water Leadership Grant program, which seeks projects that improve water efficiency, increase

water quality, and protect and remediate urban water ways.

“We’d applied for a couple years and weren’t able to get it prior. It’s a very competitive grant,”

said WCA stewardship association executive director Sheena Falconer.

“This year we were fortunate enough to get it.”

The $90,000 grant

will allow WCA to monitor outflows into the Alberni Inlet.

“We are going to be evaluating and monitoring water quality in the Inlet and then looking at ways

we can potentially improve the quality,” said Falconer. The project will begin on June 2.

“We’re looking at storm drain runoff, liquid waste,

industrial waste and hydrocarbons from boating.”

City begins dredging new sewage lagoon KATYA SLEPIAN

has now begun and the work has been contracted to Associated Engineering of Burnaby at a cost of $1.9 million.

“They have a boat that’s connected to a series of pipes and a pump. What it does is as it goes along the bottom of the lagoon it sucks up all of the sludge that has accumulated over say, 30 years,” said Associated Engineering wastewater engineer Jason Leong.

“The sludge will then be transported back where it’s first screened to remove all the big stuff and then sent to the centrifuges

where it’s spun around and mixed with de-watering polymer.”

The polymer causes the solids to stick together and allows for easier separation of the solids.

The company will remove 4,400 bone dry tonnes or 880 trucks loads.

“We’ve done 30-40 truck loads and we’re running about four trucks an hour right now,” said Leong.

“It’s been about a week so in total it’s going to take about two months.”

The city spent a week dredging out its own current lagoon to ensure that it will stay functional until it’s

ready to switch over.

However, Watson, said that the city cannot just continue to dredge out its own current lagoon in lieu of making the switch.

“The city lagoon is not providing the level of effectiveness that we need to meet our obligations under our current permit and certainly not to meet our obligations under new federal and provincial regulations that are more stringent than what we currently have,” Watson said.

“We didn’t have the option of just the status quo. We needed to move to a new treatment facility and this was the most cost

effective by a large degree. Building a mechanical treatment plant would be difficult and it would be double the cost.”

Once the lagoon is dredged, the city can begin to implement the necessary upgrades, including enhanced aeration, disinfection and a different outfall.

“The current lagoon has floating aerators which are basically a pontoon circular one with a propeller under the water that throws the water up in the air and it gets aerated in that fashion,” said Watson.

“What we’re going to put in will be much more energy efficient.

The compressors pump air into a subsurface gallery of pipes that have holes in them and have curtains of bubbles up in the effluent to entrain the air that way.”

The design of the outfall from the lagoon into the inlet is still underway.

“We’re working with both the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the provincial Ministry of Environment to meet the regulations and to have the optimal discharge,” he said.

While some sort of outfall is necessary, where it will go and how it will work will be a balancing game

between the two agencies.

“The parameters that are still under review are how far out do we have to go and how deep should it be discharged,” said Watson.

While municipal sewage regulations place the outfall pipe at 10 metres deep, that’s not ideal from a DFO perspective.

“That’s the zone where the fish are going to be interacting in this depleted oxygen zone in the dilution area.”

Looking at public health, however, leads to a different conclusion.

“They’re not necessarily the same. Public health protection would want the effluent to be discharged at depth so that it would not reach the surface so someone that’s paddling or swimming would never interact with that. Versus the fish don’t want the effluent down on that level.”

Increasingly stringent outfall requirements will raise the cost of the entire project above the original estimate of $14.5 million, although a final cost is yet to be determined. reporter@albernivalleynews.com twitter.com/alberninews

Preparations have begun at the former Catalyst Paper sewage lagoon in order to get it ready for city usage.

“We’ve started dredging the lagoon to prepare for the switch,” said City of Port Alberni major projects advisor Ken Watson.

The city purchased Catalyst Paper’s former lagoon in 2011 at a cost of $5.7 million and has been working on the logistics of switching over ever since, with an estimated switch over date of 2018. At the time, the project was estimated to cost $14.5 million and the city received a $11.2 million federal government grant.

The city was not allowed to use the grant to purchase the former Catalyst lagoon itself.

“We have been working with Associated Engineering to undertake the design of the facility as well as working through our liquid waste management plan to find out what all of the different issues stakeholders have about how we’re going to implement this process,” said Watson.

esidents living above a Port Alberni Port Authority building leased to Cantimber Biotech found the air filled with unwanted smoke on Friday, as what the company has said is a cracked valve malfunctioned.

The company is to be commended for acting quickly once the problem was detected—the plant was shut down, the problem detected and a new part ordered by the next day. An air quality monitor has been set up in a nearby residential area too.

I’m disappointed by the Nanaimo News Bulletin editorial slamming fossil fuel that appeared in the April 26 Alberni Valley News.

I find it exasperating to see so many well educated people condemn the very thing that makes modern life possible: the energy source that brought us affluence.

Disappointed because I have no doubt they are misguidedly sincere in their call to bring an end to the affluence we’ve achieved in the past 100 years.

Disappointed they can’t recognize that we live in a society that is the richest, healthiest, cleanest, and safest ever achieved and they’re condemning the very foundation of our wellbeing.

Fossil fuel and our acquired ability to extract the solar energy locked up millions of years ago,

gives power to all that we do. It feeds life into our machines: our transportation, our industry, our construction equipment, our medicine, our clothing, our food, our housing, everything down to our shoes and our soap, depends on fossil fuel.

And as Alex Epstein explains in, “The Moral Case For Fossil Fuel”, we now turn a harsh environment into a benign one by heating and cooling the homes we build to separate ourselves from raw and deadly nature.

Exasperated that so many people waste so much time and effort trying to swim against the current, to fight prosperity, desperate to leave yesterday’s solar energy buried, because of their fear of CO2.

And frustrated, knowing their view can not win. Reality will defeat the insanity of zero carbon goals.

As the carbonfootprint-eliminating green agenda percolates its way

through our society its destructiveness becomes ever more obvious.

It is time to recognize it for what it is—the failed idea of the 1980s. The future is finally waking up to the knowledge we are being misinformed about the molecule that gives us life: carbon dioxide.

Did you know that an increasing number of middle-aged and elderly disabled people, living on government financial assistance averaging about $950/month, strive to stretch what little funds they have for groceries for five weeks between cheque issue dates up to five times per year?

Four weeks is long enough, but five is really pushing it.

Besides increasing the burden on health care when under-

I’ve listed the B.C government’s 2016 “Cheque Issue Schedule” five-week months, as it paints its own bleak picture: a cheque issued Dec. 16, 2015 was the last someone on disability received until Jan. 20, 2016.

Other gaps include Feb.17–March 23, Apr. 20–May 25, July 20–Aug. 24, Sept. 21– Oct. 26 and Dec. 21, 2016 with a projected date for January 2017 that will probably, as usual, be another five-week month— “Happy New Year!”) right in the dead of winter when it’s most unhealthy to skimp on groceries.

I’ll bet Premier Christy Clark doesn’t wait four weeks—let alone five—between paycheques to fill up her larder.

And if her cupboards are getting bare, the B.C Liberal Party will be there to take her out to lunch like she’s doing to some

of the province’s most vulnerable citizens.

Airport expansion begins: Bowerman KATYA SLEPIAN ALBERNI VALLEY NEWS

Work on expanding the Alberni Valley Regional Airport runway began earlier this week, according to Bowerman Excavating owner Craig Bowerman.

The AlberniClayoquot Regional District board had voted unanimously at the end of March to award the $4.2 million airport expansion contract to Bowerman Excavating.

“Today was the first day. We’re just starting a little bit of demolition work, we’re just moving fences today,” Bowerman said on Monday.

“By early next week there will be a lot of dirt moving. We’ll be there till the end of October.”

The runway extension will lengthen the 3,952 by 75 foot runway to 5,000 by 100 feet. The length will be gained by extending the runway to the east.

According to ACRD airport superintendent Mark Fortune, the runway will remain operational for now, just at a shorter

length.

“We’ll be using markings and cones to separate the runway operations from the workers off site,” said Fortune.

“We’ll be operating a shortened version of the runway for a month-and-a-half to two months until such a time that the widening takes place adjacent to the current operational runway.”

The new shortened runway will be approximately 2,200 feet and start at the western end of the runway, near Dolan’s pit. Fortune said that smaller planes like Cessna 172s and 185s will continue to be able to fly in and out of the airport.

After the widening is complete, the runway will be closed down during the summer to allow for paving.

“When we come to the point that we have to pave the entire runway we’re going to have to shut the whole thing down.”

As they use helicopters, the Thunderbirds fire crew will be able to operate out of the AVRA throughout the expansion.

More than 20 Port Alberni doctors will be walking at Bob Daily Stadium on Thursday, May 12 to promote a healthy and active lifestyle in the community.

Walk With Your Doc is an initiative from Doctors of BC’s Council on Health Promotion, that started in Vancouver in 2010, with a goal to show the benefits of daily walking and to make a meaningful difference for patients in a simple and fun way.

Today there are more than 58 walks that happen across B.C. during the week of May 10, the World Health Organization’s international Move for

Health Day. Port Alberni’s Dr. Daryl Lund spearheaded the walk in the Valley six years ago and said the event is hosted to encourage exercise and make

people aware of the importance of exercise for their daily health care plan.

“The initial focus is on exercise but in town here we’ve expanded it to cover nutrition,” Lund said.

Informational booths, put on by Integrated Health Network and Island Health clinics, will be available for community members as well as seminars on smoking cessation

and teaching kids the importance of keeping active.

Lund said last year’s walk saw close to 700 people.

“The idea that we expanded was to bring all the community resources for fitness and activity in one location,” Lund said.

“People can check out various things that they might have been thinking about but didn’t know how to access them.”

In addition to walking the track with your doctor, various community groups will be in attendance providing free classes to those interested including zumba, belly dancing, line dancing and local fitness gyms providing folks with

information on how to access exercise programs in the community.

“We have a huge turnout and I think it’s because of the partnerships we have with the city, parks and rec, the physicians and the Integrated Health Network,” said Sandra Gentleman, registered dietitian with Integrated Health Network.

Gentleman stressed the importance of keeping an active lifestyle and said the “sitting disease” is actually starting to surpass smoking in terms of risk of death.

“It’s really important to get people to understand any little bit of movement like

A ducky event will take over Blair Park and Kitsuksis Creek this Sunday, May 8 as the inaugural Mother’s Day Duck Derby kicks off from noon to 4 p.m.

Sandra Giesbrecht and her family have planned the derby and accompanying activities to celebrate a Port Alberni woman living with Multiple Sclerosis.

“I’ve known her throughout the community in the volunteer field. Her son plays with my grandson,” Giesbrecht said.

Deanna Spencer is a longtime volunteer in the Alberni Valley, and Giesbrecht’s family wanted to do something to give back to someone who has given so much

At the same time, she wanted it to be a celebration—familyoriented, and fun.

Giesbrecht had dreams of releasing 1,000 bright yellow ducks into the Kitsuksis, much like the annual Ducky 500 race in Courtenay (which has grown to 6,000 ducks racing down the Courtenay River on July 1), but ducks are expensive, she said.

“No one wanted to lend us any either, because they didn’t want to crosscontaminate the river.”

So she has 20 brand new, large plastic ducks weighted with grout and sealed that she will release into Kitsuksis Creek behind Blair Park on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Volunteers will be at the ready with nets to pick up the ducks once they cross the finish line, near the footbridge behind Solda’s Restaurant.

The race will likely take about 15 minutes depending on the tide.

Family activities will continue until 4 p.m.

People can buy tickets for $2 each to bid on one of the 20 ducks; anyone who has the winning duck’s number will have their name entered

in a draw for the prizes ranging from signed Trevor Linden Canuck hockey cards to gift baskets from local merchants and a round trip airline ticket to Vancouver from KD Air. Ducky tickets are available at Granny’s Chicken, Trends Design Team, Burde Beans Coffee Shop and Cloud City as well as during the event.

Granny’s Chicken is also sponsoring a bouncy fair featuring bounce tents, sumo wrestling, bounce Twister, a foam bubble pit and bungee wall. Tickets for the bouncy fair will be sold on-site. There will also be plenty of free activities for kids, such as games and crafts, garden rock painting, chicken hucking, duck ringer toss and more.

Long form census returns this year BLACK PRESS

Millions of census packages are arriving in the mail and one in four households will be required to complete the onceagain-mandatory longform survey.

Canadians are urged to complete the census online, using an access code they’ll get in the mailed envelope, but

they can also fill out a paper version.

Statistics Canada’s aim is to once again capture reliable, high quality data to the same level as the 2006 census, the last time the long-form census was delivered.

It’s being pitched as important to helping guide decisions on services like schools, roads, health care, policing, transit and

social services.

Besides the reintroduction of the compulsory 36-page long form – the former Conservative government made it voluntary for 2011 and the Liberals have restored it in the name of evidence-based decision making – there are some other differences in the questions being asked.

This year’s census won’t ask you about your income – Statistics Canada will get that from the Canada Revenue Agency.

Nor is religion a question, as it’s only asked once every 10 years. The census now uses “sex” instead of “gender” and respondents are to answer male or female.

“Transgender, transsexual, and intersex Canadians should indicate the sex (male or female) with which they most associate themselves,” it says. If they can’t make that choice they can leave sex blank and explain in the comments at the bottom of the form.

Census Day is officially May 10, but Canadians are

encouraged to answer the questions as soon as possible.

And they’ve been doing so in droves.

The volume of people logging into the census website was so high on Monday, Statistics Canada said its servers were temporarily overwhelmed.

While some Canadians took

to social media to denounce the mandatory long form as invasive, many others are enthusiastic, posting census selfies.

Refusing to complete the census is against the law. Those who fail to provide information or give false answers can face fines of up to $500, up to three months in jail, or both.

Elsie Merrill Finlay 1928 – 2016

The family of Elsie Finlay sadly announce her death on April 26th at the Victoria Royal Jubilee Hospital after a short illness.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Bill Skyrme and is survived by her sisters June Parks and Shirley (Bill) Cherwak, nieces Susan, Margo, Barb, & nephews Brad & Brent and their spouses and families, her special son Collin (Joanne) and their sons; her special daughters Leah, Janice & Marina and their spouses and families as well as her closest and dearest friend Waldi, many relatives in Britain and many, many dear friends.

Elsie was born May 30, 1928 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan and came to Port Alberni in 1934. She attended local schools, graduating; her first job was at the Plywood Mill. She and her friend Velia started a business, the Mode Style Shop in Alberni.

After selling the shop, Elsie attended Sprott Shaw College in Vancouver, completing her secretarial course and then worked for the Arthritis Society in Vancouver. She then decided to travel to Britain and worked there for three years; returning to Port Alberni in 1959 to work at the WCGH in the clerical departments, marrying Ian in 1961. Elsie retired in 1993.

She loved to travel, one of her last trips was to Antarctica, her favorite place was Scotland. She enjoyed sports – ice curling, skiing, and her daily walks around the dyke with Waldi & “Molly”. Elsie loved to bake, her shortbread was famous; gardening was another passion. She volunteered at the Seaman’s Haven and for the Lifeline.

A Celebration of Elsie’s life will be held Saturday, May 14th, 1:00 PM at the Best Western Barclay Hotel, 4277 Stamp Avenue, Port Alberni.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Elsie’s name may be made to WCGH Foundation or Ty Watson House.

George Henry Fletcher passed away on April 16, 2016. George is predeceased by his loving wife of 41 years, Joan (1991); and survived by his children, Georgina (Colin), Linda (Larry) and Leslie (Lorraine); grandchildren, Treena (Dan) Dobie, Keith (Carla) Murray, Erica (Greg) Mollon, Jody (Andy) Olson, Ashley (Matt) Cookney, Jared Fletcher and Stephanie Grant; Great Grandchildren Addison Mollon, Matthew (Caitlan) Mollon, Jakob Murray, Zachary Dobie, Samuel Murray, Jade Mollon, Kale Mollon, Chloe Fletcher, Marcus Murray, Devyn Murray and Wyatt Cookney. George also leaves behind one sister, Grace McRae; sisters-in-law, Mary Fletcher, Shirley Dalby, Audrey Bortoletto, Patricia Krauchi, and Martha (Jacques) Mercier; brother-in-law Bill Kriwokon as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was one of thirteen children born and raised on a farm in Saskatchewan. He moved to British Columbia in 1947 where he met and married his wife, Joan, in 1949. He worked as a millwright/carpenter at the Somass Mill for 36 years and was a member of the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed life to the fullest by camping, travelling, fishing, golfing, dancing, playing cards, bowling and curling as well as tending his garden and helping his neighbours with their yards. He will be missed dearly by his family and those who knew him well or for a short while.

Cantimber shuts down over smoke, smell

Thomas said that she’d like to see more data—both collected and released.

“My primary concern is emissions in the surrounding area for local residents, people who are using the area and employees in the local mills and at the facility itself,” said Thomas.

“I’m glad that they’re doing the monitoring that they’ve set up with the particle

sampler every six days but I would like to see that extended to be continuous monitoring so that we have continuous data to work with.”

The Ministry of Environment monitors air quality in Port Alberni from a station on top of Alberni Elementary School on Johnston Road.

The smell this weekend was caused by seed pods, Liu said.

“The raw material used is mainly Douglas fir and hemlock and pine. So they’re just pine and fir pods,” he said.

Despite that, local resident Stacey Gaiga, who lives near the plant, says that the air quality at her house was unnacceptable this weekend.

“CanTimber is burning wood and it is impossible to sit in our backyard—we have to close all our windows because of the smoke,” Gaiga wrote in an email.

The facility is currently in the commissioning stage of beginning operations, said Liu, adding that

“On the days of commissioning during March there was minimal impact on the local air quality. The air quality guidelines from the province are to be 25 micrograms per cubic metre or under and we were between three to five [micrograms].”

The facility should begin full-scale operations within three to four weeks.

I’ll admit, I’m not always the greatest fan of historical books. Knowing how a certain event played out can sometimes put a damper on the action of a story for me. But as soon as I turned the first page of Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan, I was hooked! Set in a steampunk alternate universe, the First World War is on the verge of breaking out. There are the Clankers of Germany and the Austro-Hungarian Empire with their steam powered war machines, and the British Darwinists with fabricated animals as their weapons. I couldn’t get enough of the fantastic creatures and inventions that populated the pages! And beautiful pencil illustrations by Keith Thompson truly brought the story to life. I was rushing to find the sequel the moment I was finished!

Though their world is filled with marvelous inventions, it is still heading towards war. And Deryn and Alek have their parts to play. But their secrets may come back to haunt them . . .

2017 Community Investment Program (CIP) Orientation Workshop

Diamond Forever is a celebration of Neil Diamond at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 293, 4680 Victoria Quay.

The show runs from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 6. Tickets are $25 each available at the Legion. No minors.

The City of Port Alberni invites local non-profit groups and organizations to attend an Orientation Workshop on the 2017 Community Investment Program. This program replaces the former Grants-in-Aid program. The CIP includes in-kind services and community development grants. The workshop will outline the criteria for applying and program priorities and guidelines. Application forms will be made available at the workshop. The deadline for applying for the CIP is Monday, October 3, 2016.

Applications are reviewed by the Community Investment Grant Review Committee. They will make recommendations to City Council for their approval. Decisions for grants to be distributed in 2017 will be made in December 2016.

Please note: that any requests for in kind use of City facilities, equipment or services or for financial contributions to community organizations or events for 2017 are directed through the Community Investment Program.

In order to be eligible to apply for support under the CIP, the organization must have a member attend an Orientation Workshop.

The annual SPCA silent auction and

dinner fundraiser is at Cherry Creek Hall on Saturday, May 7. Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner is at 5 p.m. This is one of the biggest fundraising events for the local branch.

Bipolar Bear

The Bipolar Bear Band with Port

Alberni’s Lance Lapointe will be playing Boston Pizza pub on Friday, May 6 at 9 p.m. Bipolar Bear are a Vancouver Island-based rock band featuring Lapointe, who won Artist of the Year this year from the Vancouver Island Music Awards.

Eclectic folk artist, Ross Douglas, is coming to Char’s Landing on Saturday, May 8 and he’s brining his ukulele.

More than 150 runners came out to race the train to McLean Mill as part of the No. 7 Challenge on Sunday morning. Runners came from as far as Ottawa and Calgary to try their luck at beating the train but only six people made it before the 0:42:36 cut-off.

Climate change whirlwind ‘defies parody’ From A8

greenhouse gas deal they agreed to in Paris last year. It compels them to keep on flying to meetings, and not

much else. It defies parody.

Yes, the climate is changing, as it always has. Yes, we’re in a

period of gradual warming, although the rise is nowhere near what the UN’s climate models predict.

average temperature has increased about 1.5 degrees from 1900 to 2013, slightly more in the north and less in the south. That’s one one-hundredth of a degree per year.

The B.C. report ritually attributes this to human-generated carbon dioxide, the only factor the UN climate bureaucracy recognizes. And here lies a key problem for the global warming industry.

More than 90 per cent of the greenhouse effect in the Earth’s atmosphere is from water vapour.

Antarctic ice core analysis shows that over 400,000 years, increasing carbon dioxide has lagged centuries behind temperature increase.

This suggests that rising temperatures lead to increased CO2, not the other way around.

Conventional climate wisdom is that B.C. will see more total rainfall as temperatures warm.

This is a matter of significance to BC Hydro, which recently released its latest power supply and demand forecast.
