Kimberley has certainly produced a number of curling teams to be proud of this winter. The latest team off in search of glory is the Ivar Larson team. With third Brian Meyers, Second Neil Larson and Lead Dave White, the team is heading to the 2016 Pacific international Club Championship in Richmond in April. The team won the Zone Inter Club Championship in Kimberley at the end of February. They also won $750. Handing out the prize is Kimberley Curling Club Director Bob McNish.
It’s not Lindsay Park students are sun hunters spring yet School goes for another Green Games win C AROLYN GR ANT Bulletin Editor
Lindsay Park Elementary has a reputation as a ‘green’ school and a history of awards from BC Hydro’s yearly Green Games. This year, the school is going for the Green Games again, and the students have become “Sun Hunters”. Classes have been involved in various solar projects, from sun-inspired art to mapping how much
sun Kimberley gets over the course of 100 days. It was all inspired by Kimberley’s Sun Mine. With BC’s largest solar farm right here in town, it lined up perfectly to learn more about solar energy and even fundraise to purchase a solar panel to power their greenhouse. The students had visits from Mayor Don McCormick and the City’s Director of Economic Development Kevin Wilson, who explained more about the Sun Mine to them. The whole school worked together, completing a variety of projects, to create a submission video for BC Hy-
dro’s Green Games. You can check out the video and vote for Lindsay Park at www. greengames.ca The students have a Go Fund Me campaign at https://www.gofundme.com/bdxjvj6s to raise funds for the solar panel and so far have raised over $700. Lindsay Park hopes to be one of 10 elementary schools in British Columbia to win the contest and receive a $1,000 prize. Online voting continues through the month of March. Please support Lindsay Park School. Go to www. greengames.ca and vote.
A cautionary tale for those who think winter driving is over C AROLYN GR ANT

Cranbrook RCMP issued a warning last Friday morning for those who may be getting a little cavalier about winter driving. Recent warm weather has meant mainly dry roads and safe driving conditions. But it is still winter, and you can still run into poor conditions. Case in point, says Cranbrook RCMP Cst. Katie Forgeron is an incident on Friday where a pickup truck collided with a snowplow.
The accident occurred about seven kilometres down King Street. “The pickup was travelling on snow covered, slushy roads and as he moved over to avoid an oncoming snowplow he began to fishtail into oncoming traffic,” Forgeron said. “The driver of the snowplow attempted to lift the blade of the plow in order to avoid the truck, but was unable to do so.
