O

nce again the talents and imaginations of local students have wowed us here at the Echo. Elementary school students answered our call for help in preparing the advertisements for this year’s Education Week special section. All of the advertisements in this publication were designed and produced by students. In early January, invitations went out to every elementary school in the Comox Valley. The idea to have students prepare the ads was initiated by the Comox Valley Echo and supported by local advertisers. Participating advertisers supplied the children with a few guidelines on what should be in the ads, then the students were given free reign. Each advertiser selected their favourite ad to appear in this special section. The Design an Ad project illustrates the great co-operation between the media, businesses and schools in the district. Please take time to look at these superb ads. They are sure to bring a smile to your face.

The Echo thanks all the students, teachers and businesses that participated in the event for their support.

About the front cover All students who participated in the Design An Ad Contest were also invited to design the front cover. The only instruction given was that the cover had to make people think of school. The response was amazing in quantity and quality. Everyone involved in narrowing the field down commented on the quality of the drawing and especially the creativity shown. It was a true testament to the students of School District 71 and all the talented and dedicated educators. Ayla Moran won a pizza party for her entire class courtesy of the Comox Valley Echo.
