A Difference

Every Dollar Makes

Become a monthly donor with St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation and win with WESTJET

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation is excited to announce that WestJet has partnered with us again this year to help build a healthier community in the Comox Valley and create sustainability for our local hospital. From October 8th through to December 18, 2015, every person who signs up to become a monthly donor with the Foundation will be entered for a chance to win a round-trip flight for two to any WestJet destination. Not only will you win by giving back to our community, but you could win a getaway, too! Whether you have retired to the Comox Val-

ley for your golden years, are raising a young family, or are planning for retirement, the quality and efficiency of health care in our community impacts us all. Donations like yours allow the Foundation to purchase medical equipment, technology, patient comfort items and facility upgrades when they are needed the most. Being able to draw from donations at any time ensures prompt replacement of aging or broken equipment, or the purchase of new, innovative technology that meets or exceeds current industry standards without having to wait for government funding. Monthly donations are a convenient way to spread your donation out over the entire year. It lets you budget your generosity and you will receive a single, cumulative tax receipt at

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference

the end of the year. You may choose to have funds withdrawn regularly from your bank account or from your credit card, and you can cancel at any time. Your support could be as little as a $5.00 or $10.00 monthly donation. This donation, no matter how small, will provide St. Joseph’s and the new Comox Valley Hospital with a more sustainable funding source, one that help support an excellent level of health care in the Comox Valley. Donations can be made: in person at the Foundation office at the front entrance to the Hospital, by calling Lynn, Meghan or Katie at (250) 890-3046 or

online by visiting www.cvhospitalfoundation.com or by completing the enclosed form. As always, we are grateful to our community for its tremendous support. An investment in your health care is an investment in everyone’s future.

Feeling at Home for Christmas W

hen we can’t be at home for the holidays, we can at least feel like we are. That’s why this Christmas, one of the areas St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation is focusing on is the comfort, well-being and spirit of our elderly residents and their families. The Views at St. Joseph’s General Hospital is a residential care facility that is home to 117 residents who can no longer live alone independently. Each resident varies in ability and background, and adds richness to the tapestry that is St. Joseph’s. While the team at the Views works hard every day to make sure their residents feel at home, the task is getting more difficult as the buildings at St. Joseph’s get older. “Homey” upgrades to furniture, lighting, curtains, décor and paint are greatly needed to increase residents’ comfort and quality of life.

The rooms needing physical space upgrades are: the respite room, two palliative rooms and the family room. “The furniture is getting worn and outdated, and the rooms need a fresh look and feel,” says Amanda Levicek the Clinical Coordinator for Oceanview at the Views. “In a warm, comforting environment, a resident will relax when he or she sees an inviting space and the family will feel at ease leaving their loved one in our care.” “Having a brighter space and areas where residents and families can relax will lead to a spontaneous, happier and calm environment.” These improvements matter, because everyone deserves to feel like they’re home, at Christmas and always. After the new Comox Valley Hospital opens in 2017, these upgrades will live on, as St. Joseph’s will continue to provide excellence in seniors’ health, which includes residential and hospice care.
