unauthorized, failing to stop for a peace officer and failing to attend court. The officer suspected that the 32 year old male driver was impaired, and as a result is now facing charges including 13 counts of breaching conditions related to the previous releases, impaired driving, criminal driving while unauthorized, obstruction and personation (identity fraud). Additionally, the vehicle was seized. Coincidentally, the registered owner of the vehicle, a different person, was also prohibited from driving due to a previous impaired driving conviction. The accused will not be named until the charges are sworn before the courts. RCMP would like to remind the public that Impaired driving is a serious offence and no longer socially acceptable. Impaired driving will always be prosecuted vigorously and repeat offences result in greater punishments.

City of Leduc discourages skating on storm ponds BY AMELIA NAISMITH THE PIPESTONE FLYER With 13 skating rinks in Leduc, enforcement services remind people to stay off and away from storm water ponds as a recreational option. Gerard MacNeil, manager of enforcement services, says people should look online at the city’s website for information about storm ponds and what rinks are available for casual skating and hockey, as well and an accompanying location map. The ponds are not safe to skate on due to fluctuating water levels and potential depths that will not freeze solid. In 2014 and possibly early 2015 MacNeil says there were five incidences of people falling through the ice. “Thank heavens there were no serious incidences.”
The only exception is the Civic Centre pond at Alexandria Park, which will be maintained for hockey if the appropriate factors are in place. MacNeil says if people choose to use the ponds they are not only putting themselves in potential danger but city staff as well, as enforcement on the ponds is risky for all the same reasons. “We’re not really going to do any enforcing.
