The 7th annual Snowmobile Drag Races are set for Saturday, Jan. 30 on the Midway airport strip and organizer Kettle Valley Racing Association (KVRA) is hoping for more cooperation from Mother Nature this year. Held a week later in 2015 than it is this year, the race was plagued by rainy conditions, which, while it did not deter the racers, kept spectators away. There are numerous racing classes offered to competitors, based on capacity of the

machine, though there are no traction devices permitted. Last year’s start was aided by the use of launch pads, constructed from old snowmobile tracks attached to plywood, and the same system is expected to be employed during this year’s races. Earlybird registration is available on Friday, Jan. 29 from 6 - 9 p.m., the course opens Saturday morning at 9 a.m., and registration is from 9-10 a.m. The roar of the races gets under way at 11 a.m. Those needing information regarding the drag races should contact Darrin Metcalf at darrinmetcalf@gmail. com.

A Midway man who was allegedly breaching his court-ordered curfew remains in police custody after he fled on foot from a traffic
stop and resisted arrest Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 6). On Jan. 6 shortly after 2 p.m., a Kelowna RCMP officer in a marked police vehicle conducted a traffic stop with a black Mercedes SUV
in the 2300 block of Hunter Road, reported Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey, Kelowna RCMP Media Relations, in a press release last week. The driver of the Mercedes was identified and found to be in breach
